Lovely old building and spacious bedroom for 3 at the front of the hotel with fine view over square. Traffic noise intermittently overnight (always useful to have earplugs). Nice breakfast and pleasant staff. Lovely sitting outside under sunshades and having a cold beer. Barr strikingly pretty town to walk around.
The hotel is over 500 years old! so is the mattress!!!It was a hot day 31C, room no AC and no fan.
Opening the window is a problem because all the traffic driving through the village. We went to bed at 23.30,we got up at 4 a.m and left.It was impossible to sleep, what a night!!!Never ever will stay in this place again.
After a nice walk in Barr we found Le Brochets nice terasse. The location is perfect just on a corner at the main square of the village. We all had tarte flambée and mine with three cheeses (including a powerful Munster) was really nice. Actually one of the better I had in Alsace. You should try it! The wine was good and so was the service. This is a perfect place to stop for a quick lunch on the way south.
Spoilt for choice in this beautiful little town, but luckily picked Le Brochet. Me and my dog were made very welcome, and had a delicious Tarte Flambe, glass of Pinot Gris and coffee for €16.00. Quite the best Tarte Flambe I have ever had, and the service was excellent, friendly and professional.
This is a cozy litle hotel. It is old and has a charm. Friendly staff and a beautyful town. The town is not a tourist town and you should check opening hours of restaurants and shops. The shops seem to be closed 12:00-14:00 or when the restaurants are open for lunch. Also note that the restaurants close at 14:00 and are not open again until dinner time.
The place looks really nice and pitoresque from the outside and the location is excellent. The room we got was clean and adequate, but nothing more. There was no hairdryer in the bathroom. The free wifi offer is a joke - internet did not work at all or it worked only in the restaurant and near the router. The service was rather poor and so was the breakfast. We had breakfast shortly after 8 AM. The croissants basquet was empty, so we asked the waiter for a refill. He told us there were no croissants left because the other guests (about 10 persons) ate 2 each. All in all it was an expensive and unsatisfactory stay. I do not recommed Le Brochet.
This place looks very nice and cosy from the outside. But once you are inside the charm stops. Staff neglective and not very friendly or helpfull. Uncharming decoration. Internet not working unless you sit right next to the router at the staircase.
Avoid room nr. 9. Has one small window to the backyard and this window is partly covered by a roof. The room is dark as a grave. Thanks to the lack of suport from the staff, we did not eat at the place. Instead we found a gourmet-restaurant in town. Breakfast okay. Good bread. Cold coffee. Guess it was left-overs from the night before.
Rooms are small but ok, and bathrooms newly renovated. The breakfast is fine - coffee was cold, but that's probably not normal. It is a good place for a stay in Barr which is a small and pictoresque village.
The Wi Fi is said to be free in all rooms - but in fact it does not work in the rooms (at least not in no. 9) - you have to go to the place where there is a small server and sit close to it to obtain internet connection.
Very reasonable priced hotel. And parking is free in a small yard in the back.
I stayed overnite here on the way to Colmar along the Alsace Wine Route. Wonderful ambiance in at old half-timbered hotel right on the town square of Barr. Great restaurant serving Alsatian flambe, excellent staff and service. To top it all off, very good value for the rates they are charging. Highly recommended.
We stayed at this hotel for a night while driving the Route du vin with family and friends. The hotel is right in the heart of Barr, a cute little Alsace town. The hotel was covered in flowers and very quant outside. The room was a good size and clean, and the bed was comfortable. We also had a few drinks and dinner at the restaurant, and it was a great night. The staff did not speak any English, however with my limited French we managed to get by.
