I booked this hotel expecting a standard Radisson Blu experience but didn't get what I had anticipated. The hotel, despite being built in post-Soviet times still has all the hallmarks of something designed by the Russians. The main positive is that the rooms are very spacious, if bizarre in design. I was very irritated however to be put into a room immediately next to extensive building works. This wasn't notified when I booked which I think is completely unacceptable. The place has over 270 rooms but I was put into the worst possible location despite it being half empty. Why? I got my room changed after the first night which was dealt with efficiently by the reception staff. The second room, about a quarter of a mile down the corridor, was much better. Reception staff were generally very good which cannot be said for the staff in the adjacent Sports Bar. Male staff there were fine but the two or three female staff were terrible. I have never been treated so rudely. No smiles. No customer service. Bad English. Bad attitude. It really put a damper on things. Don't even think about hiring a snooker table unless you wan to be treated like a naughty kid. Really bad customer interaction. Such a shame when other staff are actually quite good. Breakfast prices are ridiculous. Go into town to get something decent for a fraction of the price.
Rooms are big and beds are very good (wide and comfortable billows). Breakfast very decent. However the older part of building is very tired. Rooms are kind of clean, but there has been no renovation 15+ years. In winter room tend to be cold, bathroom doesn't look very appealing. Last stay also some very strange smell in bathroom and previous quest empty bottles near the bed.
Our room had been recently renovated and was quite spacious. We had to request a few times for non-feather pillows due to an allergy which took a day to sort out. Breakfast is in no way worth €20 a person, skip it and get something in town. The spa area was a nice amenity though overcrowded at times, and could really use a clean, it didn’t appear like any regular cleaning or inspections were taking place. Overall good value for money but more care should be given to customer service, breakfast quality, and maintaining cleanliness.
Absolute Failure
New Year’s Eve Dinner | €340
No drink service — guests had to queue at the bar. The line was so long that our food went cold. Drinks listed on the menu were unavailable.
Total service collapse: even hours later and just before midnight, plates and empty glasses from the starter were still on the table.
When we complained, staff were rude and dismissive. No manager available. No apology. No compensation. Not even water.
This felt like a cash grab, not a celebration — especially shocking for a Radisson and despite our VIP status.
Overpriced. Unacceptable. Avoid for special events.
This hotel stay was extremely disappointing and the worst I have ever experienced.
The so-called “green cleaning” policy is unacceptable: trash was not removed from our room for three days, even after we asked. The room was cold due to poor heating, the toilet did not flush (we had to flush it manually with a trash bin), and no napkins were replenished.
Due to a reception mistake, we and our child were woken up at 4:30 a.m. by a wrong wake-up call, ruining our last night’s sleep. We also requested a double bed but received two separate beds with a gap, forcing our child to sleep in between — unsafe and unacceptable.
The restaurant was poorly maintained (dirty chairs), and dessert took an unreasonably long time to arrive.
The SPA was tragic: torn bathrobes, worn-out towels, an overcrowded jacuzzi for only a few people, and an overpowering aroma in the steam room that made our eyes water. We received the SPA for free as compensation — which was good, because I would not pay for such an experience.
Only one positive note: the first-day receptionist genuinely tried to help. Overall, I do not recommend this hotel, especially for families.
Everything is fine. The hotel is convenient for staying with children. It is located in a beautiful place, close to many picturesque buildings, monuments, churches, restaurants, and shops. The breakfast is delicious, there is something for every taste, and you are given plenty of time to eat. The reception staff are friendly and always ready to help. We booked a room for three people with a spa. So we had a wonderful time relaxing in the sauna and swimming in the pool. We liked everything.
It felt budget hotel, great location bus 22 stops basically outside from the airport. And it's 1km walk over the bridge to old town.
It's dated and I didn't enjoy the spa, water was cold so not worth the extra money.
Breakfast was good and staff friendly.
This hotel was once built and then forewer forgotten. Rooms look terrible, outdated and desparately need renovation. I will add couple photos of my standard room.
Spa is small and the general area has a big pool with cold water. Spa itself is quite cold, so sauna is only normal place. When i went to spa and gave my voucher then lady was confused why i'm still standing. My room didn't include bathrobe, so, i was standing there with my clothes ... waiting for key for locker or some furter introduction.. for asking i got it. First key opened somebody elses locker with clothes in. Second try was success. Also wondered where i should but the key in the spa ... spa shower room was interesting too with unfinised renovation.
We were in shock to find out that you have to pay a lot extra to use the pool. On the advertisements it clearly shows extra charge for taxi, extra charge for extra bed, but no place could I see a charge for the pool. Their charge for the pool was very high for 2 hours. So we were all very disappointed to stay 6 days and not get to use the pool. Even with all of the good....you don't forget disappointment like that.
Don't let earlier reviews put you off this beautiful hotel!
I booked as always prefer a beautiful view over being directly in the town.
I booked a junior suite which is located in the renovated part of the hotel and it was wonderful.
Room 511, came with not one but two balconies. The room was spotless and had wonderful AC.
Right from checkin the staff were friendly and attentive.
The daily breakfast in the restaurant was delicious and had many delicious options.
I literally can't say anything bad about this experience as everything really was perfect.
To get to the old town it's about a 15 minute walk across the bridge so all very local.
Treat yourself to an upgraded room and have a lovely time when there, this hotel really is a hidden gem.
I would stay here again in a heart beat!!
The Blu was an easy walk across the bridge, but a major hotel near the airport should provide a shuttle to and fro, for the convenience. Otherwise a nice pleasant stay.
Stayed two nights. Room was not cleaned or made up after being at work all day. Endless lineups at reception with lack of staff. Poorly equipped tables in resto. Staff will not bring anything to rooms if requested, for example extra glasses cutlery. Had to clean my own room and toilet. Overall, unpleasant stay.
A well situated hotel . Needs renovation (room looked a little old) . The service at the breakfast was somehow SLOW
I felt the hotel rooms were a bit run down and did not offer value for money. Additional payment to use the spa/pool facilities was unexpected given the cost of stay
Lovely view of the city from the room. Staff is very friendly. Rooms are very nice and updated but exterior needs massive renovation. Still, the best hotel in Riga. Too many smokers at the entrance. Breakfast was lovely.
Everything was great! Room, view, breakfast, bed... . We have been there many times and will return for sure again.
.
Very badly maintained rooms but very good food. Staff was friendly and location is fine. Hotel must shut down for renovation.
Hotel is in a good location. If you happen to stay on the Riverside, you have great views of the city the buffet breakfast in the morning is outstanding probably the best buffet breakfast I’ve ever had at a hotel easily walkable to get into downtown Riga or you can take the shuttle across the bridge 10 to 15 minute walk or a five minute shuttle ride Great place to stay if you’re Riga
Construction going on first floor of building, have to pay to use pool and spa that is shown in pictures, only assisted once by front desk when checking in, every other time was ignored, rooms run down and messy, and very out of the way. Save your money for a cheaper and better hotel in old town. Also, wanted to reiterate the services advertised (pool/spa) are not apart of hotel, they are run by a company called KO. Do not expect a place with spa in the name to actually provide a spa to guests.
