Hotel AKA Alexandria

My husband and I got married back in December and stayed in Alexandria for a mini moon.
Everything about our stay was fantastic. We were pleasantly surprised to find a bottle of sparkling wine, snacks (chocolate covered strawberries and pretzels, macarons) and a hand written note congratulating us on our recent marriage, welcoming us to our room.

Every single staff member we interacted with was also amazing. Bartenders, servers, front desk, valet - tens across the board. Shoutout to the housekeeping staff for maintaining such a safe, clean, beautiful building.

Nigel and Jules, I believe their names were, welcomed us at check in and set the tone for the rest of our stay. A third gentleman helped us check out and sent us off with a box of chocolates. I never write reviews, but that last bit of razzle pushed me over the edge.

Overall just an outstanding experience.

I’m very grateful to the whole Alexandria team for taking care of my husband and I and starting our marriage off on the best foot.

AKA Alexandria holds a special place in my heart, not least because of the exceptional leadership of former General Manager Chris Suputo and his delightful dog, Senna, who added such warmth and personality to the property.

The current team continues that legacy beautifully - Isaiah on the front desk is wonderful, providing that perfect blend of professionalism and genuine hospitality.

The suites are absolutely gorgeous - spacious, impeccably appointed, and designed for both comfort and functionality. The gym is lovely, with everything you need for a proper workout, and the restaurant is simply stunning. That bar with what looks like a cloud hovering overhead is pure design magic - it creates the most enchanting atmosphere for evening drinks or a leisurely meal.

Location-wise, you couldn't ask for better. A short, pleasant stroll takes you to the water, and Old Town Alexandria's charming village atmosphere is right at your doorstep - adorable shops, a farmers market on weekends, historic streets, and that quintessential small-town feel despite being so close to the capital. The proximity to Reagan Airport is also a game-changer for busy travellers - maybe 9 minutes away!

As someone who's passionate about the AKA brand and their luxury experience, this property exemplifies everything that makes their collection special - thoughtful design, exceptional service, and that rare ability to make you feel genuinely at home.

I was very impressed with Hotel AKA Alexandria. The overall design is striking — architectural, sleek, and thoughtfully done. The muted color palette and modern styling create a calm, polished atmosphere that feels genuinely upscale from the moment you arrive.
My room was large, extremely comfortable, and beautifully designed with a modern, high-end feel. Everything was spotless, and it’s clear the property is very well maintained. The bathroom was equally impressive, with upscale bath products, and I appreciated that everything worked exactly as it should — no small issues or annoyances that can sometimes come with newer “design-forward” hotels.
The staff was friendly, welcoming, and professional throughout my stay.
One additional highlight: on my way out to an early morning appointment, I discovered the café, which had everything I needed — a great and convenient touch.
Pilates is an important part of my life, and I was especially pleased to see the hotel offers an in-house Pilates studio. On my next visit, I fully intend to book a session — it’s a wonderful amenity and a real differentiator.

Overall, an excellent stay. I would absolutely return and highly recommend it.

Room very comfortable. Large bathroom with excellent toiletries. Food/dining mediocre--restaurant food rather bland and cafe had limited choices that didn't seem fresh daily. Big shoutout to Nigel at front desk who had great restaurant recommendation.

I truly love this hotel. I have stayed here 3 times now in varying room sizes (Zen King and 1 bedroom corner units) and it is my top choice when I come to the DC area. It’s in walking distance to many great places to eat and shop in and around Old Town Alexandria and the hotel design is simply beautiful. It feels very luxe and private because it is in a residential area. The staff is also very nice, welcoming and responsive.

I have once piece of feedback for management — an opportunity for improvement to delight ALL of your guests. All guests get 2 complimentary mimosas when we check in, as an incentive to eat in the restaurant. However, I don’t drink alcohol, so I would LOVE it if you also offered complementary tickets to a tea or coffee in the cafe. This gesture would encourage more people to spend time in the cafe and shop there.

Our stay at AKA was lovely! As one who works in the hospitality industry, AKA represents all that you would want in a hospitable environment. From check in with Nigel to the check out with the team, it was personable, natural and put a
Smile on my face that will bring me back!

Beautiful, modern hotel. Room was 10/10 and extremely clean. Hotel bar closes early on weekends (11 pm). Food at hotel cafe was subpar. There are walkable food options within a few blocks but it was extremely cold so we didn't try walking locally.

Modern building. Large ,Very Clean Room. Very nice staff. No pool. Quiet neighborhood. Valet parking and decent restaurant in lobby.

A terrific experience. Great staff, accommodations and amenities. I felt very comfortable and welcomed I’ll be back!

Isaiah Frazier was amazing!! He remembered us and made sure we had a wonderful date night. I highly recommend him. He also made sure we had a microwave. We had red wine, chocolate covered strawberries and macaroons.

The hotel is beautiful. The service was top tier & the staff was extremely attentive. We especially enjoyed the service and interaction from Marvin! He’s the best! Nigel was also very kind and helpful. We will definitely stay at Hotel AKA Alexandria again in the future ❤️

"Stepping into Hotel AKA Alexandria felt like entering a high-end art gallery. The Piero Lissoni-designed interiors are breathtaking, especially the floating steel staircase and the dramatic 'Mamacloud' sculpture above the bar. Our room felt less like a standard hotel and more like a refined residence, featuring huge windows, a massive rainfall shower, and sleek, high-end Italian furnishings. If you appreciate quiet luxury and impeccable lighting, this is the best stay in downtown Alexandria VA.

We had a wonderful stay here! Gorgeous hotel and amazing staff. Marvin and Nigel were so friendly and helpful! Rachid was our server at the restaurant and he was incredible! So friendly and attentive and the food was fantastic. We will definitely return

We had a fabulous breakfast at the hotel. Expensive as one would expect, but delicious. Rachid took very good care of us during our meal.

I booked a suite expecting a higher standard and a more polished experience, but my stay fell short in several key areas.

At check-in, I shared that I had hoped for a more special room; no effort was made to address this. The room also appeared not to have been properly cleaned. The coffee machine still contained a used pod, and water had leaked throughout the machine and tray. The minibar was untidy, and two of the three bottles of Voss water had broken seals—one partially full—raising concerns about cleanliness and quality control.

In addition, my room rate included complimentary breakfast, yet the waitstaff questioned this and had to repeatedly check with reception before honoring it.

Given the condition of the room and the inconvenience experienced, this stay did not reflect the standard expected of a suite or the price paid.

Our stay at AKA Alexandria is always great, but this stay was OUTSTANDING. The manager, Isaiah Frazier, epitomizes hospitality. He truly went above and beyond. The service here is exceptional. Our room was clean and comfortable, as usual, and the neighborhood is safe and walkable. We will return again and again.
