Disgusting
Absolutely the worst hotel experience we’ve ever had.
Within minutes of walking into the room, my wife checked the bed (like she always does) and immediately found a squished bed bug on the sheets. That was enough—we grabbed our things and left right away.
On top of that, the room was extremely hot, outdated, and felt dirty overall. Completely unacceptable, especially for nearly $300 a night.
We went to the front desk to report it, and instead of helping, we were told we’d need to speak to a manager. We tried reaching out multiple times—no response, no follow-up, nothing. Meanwhile, we’re still out the money.
We ended up leaving and going back to a place we had stayed previously just to feel comfortable again. The only reason we chose this hotel was for the advertised bar and restaurant, which wasn’t worth it at all.
This was honestly one of the most disgusting and unsettling experiences we’ve ever had at a hotel. We even have photos of the bed bug.
Avoid this place at all costs. Bed bugs are a serious issue, and the lack of response from management makes it even worse.
The location is good. Fair pricing.
The rooms are dated. The bed was not comfortable which was surprising for a Marriott. The bathroom had plumbing problems.
The bathroom had mold in between the tiles in the shower. The bathroom needed up dating. Toilet was to low.
I liked that it was connected with to the mall. Super cool and convenient.
We stayed on the 4th floor and my husband noticed that the windows opened and had not screens. Makes me a little uneasy when you have kids in the room.
This was one of the worst stays I've had recently. To begin with, be advised that the pricing of the rooms is artificially low because they tack on $12 per day for parking. This is not for a deck or anything special, just a standard parking lot that is free with almost any other hotel. This is deceptive pricing.
When I arrived, I noted that there was an unknown white substance on the arm of the sofa. All of the furniture is run-down, scratched, and needs to be replaced. One of the bedside lamps had a broken shade. There was not a pen or piece of paper in sight.
I had picked up dinner and wanted to eat it, but when I looked in the cabinet to find a dinner plate, there were none, just small bowls and saucers. I called to the front desk, but they said they only had paper plates and said that housekeeping would bring my plates tomorrow.
The next day, no plates arrived, so I had to go to the front desk to ask about them. To her credit, Princess was very helpful, managing to find me a couple of plates for the room.
Some of the guests were very noisy, screaming and slamming doors at all hours of the day and night. Marijuana smoke could be smelled in some of the hallways. The layout of the hotel, with the guest rooms in separate buildings from the front desk building, makes no sense and diaconnects the rooms from any management personnel who might be able to help with problems like this.
When I got into the shower the next morning, the water was warm at first but soon turned freezing cold. This is unacceptable, and has never happened to me in many years of traveling. Hotels are supposed to have enough hot water for all of their rooms, period.
It seems that the hotel has many maintenance problems. The inner curtain on the window, which normally would block out light, looked as if it had been chewed full of holes by a dog.
Even the TV was programmed incorrectly, with the hotel channel showing Daylight Saving Time instead of the correct time, as we are now on Eastern Standard Time at this time of year. That gave me a shock when I got out of the shower and started to worry that I was running late.
This hotel used to be a good place to stay, but it needs some TLC, renovations, and attention to detail by the staff. I will not be staying here again. I would rather pay more money for a quieter and better-maintained facility than deal with these issues.
Feel free to stay if you like:
--noisy, dirty, shaky elevators
--threadbare carpet in the hallways
In my room last night:
--door is so worn out you must slam it shut
--TV remote didn't work, replaced once
--broken desk chair
--bath faucet leaking all over
--bath drain clogged
Joe the manager:
--offers no apology, no care, no empathy
PROS
Convenient location, about 20 minutes from DTW airport. A lot of restaurants close by, easy access to 275. Beds seem newer, TVs as well.
Has a pool and fitness center but didn't use either.
Concierge lounge with basic breakfast and drinks.
Fairly low cost for a Marriott.
CONS
Furniture, carpeting, bathrooms very old. When I checked in, went to my room (twice) and the key wouldn't work (turns out the door lock was broken). First time trying to get into the Concierge lounge, similar issue but finally worked. Elevators feel shaky.
Restaurant / bar in the lobby but very dead when I was there. Saw a few people sitting at tables in the lobby but no one ever at the bar (and though it was open, never saw a bartender). Peephole in the room door was stuffed with tissue (think it was missing parts).
Next to a mall that is pretty outdated as well. But it's not an unsafe / bad area, just very outdated.
Clean and friendly staff
Not as close to downtown as we thought
No parking available.
The staff was very friendly. Aiming to please from the initial contact.
Close to expressway. Close to shopping
The room was clean. Staff was nice. We were there for a conference. There could of been more places to offer to sit for lunch.
The breakfast and front people were very nice
Rooms were clean, quite and comfortable. Plenty of free parking. Needs improvement in the following areas:
- USP ports required to charge your phone, iPad etc.
- Need power points on both sides of the bed.
-Iron box provided, but there were no iron board
- No safety locker provided
- Phone provided, but there were no phone directory to know any of the hotel contact numbers
