This property and the family that owns/operates it is just an outstanding choice. It is gorgeous, both inside and out and the food is terrific. Rooms are spacious and well appointed as well as just interesting as they are theme- based. The breakfasts are spectacular (really!) and we loved the daily dose of cookies/brownies and fresh water/coffee available all the time. Happy hours were very nice too. The deck is lovely and the overlook to the Guadalupe is gorgeous. We came as a family reunion and so enjoyed the stay. Big tv/shuffleboard/pool table room is fun and other open spaces make the whole place enjoyable . Thank you to all!
From the great accommodations, to the location and the amazing breakfast, our experience here was phenomenal. River front access and a large hot tub as well! A rare find for the proximity that all Gruene has to offer. Welcoming staff and comfy rooms. Highly recommend this place!
This was our third multi-day stay at Gruene River Hotel and Retreat. It was ideal - from easy of check in, parking, room prep, daily experiences, - you can pretty much think of it and this retreat is ideal.
Some specifics - it is quiet, near to music venues like the Villa, Gruene Hall, etc, however, you don't hear them at the retreat. The breakfast is great! There really is a chef, and if you get a chance to have fresh cinnamon rolls do it!
The room was clean, AC cold, bed super comfortable, water the temp you want it, housekeeping excellent, and the TV was easy to work. If you log in to your streams remember to log out.
It's easy to walk Gruene and eat, shop, and listen to music. Your car will be safe as the retreat is set back from the Guadalupe river. You'll have river views depending on your room - the Shady lady and others have a balcony - we saw some deer while watching the river.
This isn't a retreat to have a wild young person party. It is a retreat for couples, a special occasion, reunions, or an intimate wedding home base.
In terms of amenities, there is a great hot tub, no pool - the river is a walk down steps, a room to chill and read, a downstairs room with games, and pool table (free pac-man too), afternoon wine and cookies, and chilled water at all times. There is a conference room too.
Overall - a wonderful venue in Gruene and we'll stay there again.
Thanks much to the owners and staff! This is an A+ retreat.
We stayed at the Gruene the weekend of May 15th - 17th for my daughter's graduation from TXST. The hotel is beautiful and always in perfect condition. The staff is friendly and helpful. You can't beat sitting on the veranda overlooking the river while enjoying a nice wine. We meet several other couples from the Houston area and enjoyed visiting with them while we had complimentary wine from 5-7. Once we got back from the 2:00 p.m. Saturday graduation, we parked and walked down and enjoyed listening to live music at the Gruene Groove. The room was fantastic and bathroom was more than enough space for my wife and I to get ready in. I have stayed at multiple places over the last 15 years in New Braunfels and once we discovered the Gruene River Hotel we don't even consider staying anywhere else. We have actually changed the date of one of our visits due to availability at the hotel. Not sure how Gruene River Hotel is rated #3. We have stayed at La Cantera Resort in SA, Barton Creek Resort in Austin, Hyatt Regency Lost Pines in Bastrop, and none of them can equal the overall experience of the Gruene River Hotel.
great location along with plenty of parking and easy access to the private beach on the river. Just far enough away from the bands playing into the evening but a super easy walk to all the venues. Super clean and comfortable rooms.
EVERYTHING was perfect for our stay. This is such a quaint place and beautiful property. We really enjoyed our balcony and the view and the breakfast is excellent and above expectations. We walked the neighborhood, Gruene Hall and Gristmill are only approximately 3 properties over from the hotel. There were two restaurants in New Braunfels we wanted to visit and it was a 10 minute UBER ride. We left our vehicle secure at the hotel. Staff is excellent as well. Wine, beer & snacks at happy hour. We will definitely stay here again.
There's really nothing we didn't like. If I have to put something here it would be extra wash cloths (which you gave me) or 2 versus 1 mini body wash.
Great place. We visit annually with a group of friends and never disappoints.
BREAKFAST AND LOCATION WERE GREAT
The owners were exceptionally hospitable and accommodating. Felt like you were staying with close friends or family. The breakfasts were well above the usual hotel breakfasts. Some of the best I've had anywhere. We plan to return
Breakfast was awesome and staff was exceptional and freindly
all was good no dislikes
Beaut property
My husband and I visit Gruene a couple times a year for a weekend getaway. We normally stay at another hotel, but we had issues with them the past two visits, and after checking reviews, decided to try Gruene River Hotel. I am so glad we did.
The hotel is a real gem and has true personality! Each room has its own theme, and the staff is so friendly and accommodating. The grounds are beautiful and well-maintained with plenty of places to sit and enjoy the outdoors. If the weather is not good, there is a game room, porches, and balconies with tables, chairs, rockers, and couches. Gruene attractions, such as the Hall, restaurants, and shops, are within easy walking distance.
During the day treats, water, coffee, and tea were available in the lobby. In the evening there were a couple selections of wines and beers and snacks avaliable. Breakfast was included with a variety of pastries, fruit, and hot foods that vary each day. One morning they served scrambled eggs with ham. I don't eat pork, and the cook offered to make eggs for me without the ham. Such hospitality!
We stayed in the Shady Lady room, which is decorated like a late 19th century boudoir. The room was very clean, and the bed comfortable.
I think we found a new favorite hotel for Gruene and are looking forward to staying again.
Adorable property, I loved how close to everything it was, I walked to dinner every night.
This property is beautifully maintained along the Guadalupe River. The staff member who worked on Saturday evening was exceptionally accommodating and friendly. Happy Hour featured wine, beer, and a variety of snacks. The breakfast was absolutely delightful and included in our stay. The location is perfect, walking distance to shops, Gristmill, Gruene Hall. I truly appreciated the thoughtful touches that made this place stand out! We will definitely return! (Adult only property)
