Location is quite great.
Just a minute from the train to downtown if you want to do it. Woodward is a great street with lots of stuff to do.
Detroit is a major city so there are going to be issues with a large city.
The parking was quite useful as we can come and go and it was monitored by an attendant.
The room was not very nice. Second floor. As people have described earlier. Quite rundown. I would have stayed at an upper floor had I had known.
Staff very friendly and the bartender was friendly even though I didn't get any drinks.
I think I overpaid for this two night stay. But it wasn't as terrible as people say.
I walked down to the McDonald's which is a little bit west of the hotel.
If you are not used to seeing homeless people you shouldn't travel.
I would consider staying again if I had an updated room.
Otherwise no.
If I could give this hotel a negative star I would. It is the dirtiest, nastiest hotel in the ghetto part of Detroit.
Check in was good and front desk was nice. We get to the 2nd floor and make it out room at the end of the hallway. We go into our room and wow. Cracks in the walls, paint peeling off the walls and ceiling. Stains on the floor and the dirtiest shower with the vent covered in nasty white fluff.
We leave the hotel to get the tram. We were greeted by homeless people, and witnessed a domestic. The afternoon was good as we got downtown and decided to come home around 9pm. Give her out in the valet parking when I leave here is rap being played so loud. In the coffee station, somebody set up an event and when we went to get a drink at the bar, the bartender couldn't even hear us we had to write down what we wanted.
We decided to go to our room to finish our drink, and when we got up there, our rooms were right above the nightclub or the party that was happening below us. At 1:00 p.m., the party ended and our hallway was an absolute nightmare. Fights were breaking out and people were literally screaming at each other and music being played super loud again in the hallway. We called the front desk but nobody answered and we got the answering machine but the box was full.
When we got up the next day, we went to go get a coffee and somebody tampered with the machine and there wasn't anything. When I asked the front desk girl where to go get a coffee she said I wouldn't be walking anywhere in this neighborhood.
If you're looking for a hotel, do not stay at this one! It is nasty, unsafe, and a rip off.
We heard about the history of this hotel before going and that made me excited about staying here...Ownership changed hands some time ago so their lounge isn't open, the piano isn't there and the humidor was closed but...They do have a nice welcoming lobby, friendly staff and happy hour at the bar in the lobby.
There is one parking lot next to the building, not sure if there are more spaces in the back of nearby but you have to pay to park and register your vehicle. The lot does have cameras and lighting. We stayed on the 6th, which was good because we read the hotel is somewhat outdated.
The room was nice and cozy, you can tell they've been doing work and the location is near alot of good spots. There isn't an ice machine on the floor but they provide ice on the 1st floor. The happy hour was nice, drinks were good, as well as the bartender. We didn't checkout the ball room but I'm sure we'll be back soon.
Room was nothing like the picture on the website. Carpet, bathroom, and light shade have stains. The bed and furniture are very old. There are no upgrades as the pictures suggest.
This hotel is not like the pictures online! It’s old, the ceiling looks like there was a leak, the shower vent was rusted, dirty and dusty! The shower head was spraying allll over the place! The bathroom counter was extremely short, the furniture is extremely old. The sheets weren’t comfortable at all. I was very uncomfortable, fortunately I was only going to be there for a day and a half. DO NOT STAY HERE!
The first room they gave us was dark and 92 degrees (someone left the heat on). The second room smelled musty and the bed sheet was torn all alone the bottom and the comforter was lumpy. Fed up, we went down to the bar to have a drink, but they didn’t have the ingredients to make any of the drinks I asked for. This is supposed to be a luxury hotel, but we were totally disappointed.
The hotel is in a fantastic location, within walking distance of all the main attractions.
The rooms were impeccably clean and well-maintained. The beds were incredibly comfortable, and I slept very well.
I was so impressed with the attentive and courteous staff. They catered to my every need and ensured my stay was as comfortable as possible
Best ever vacation with amazing hospitality at the Hotel.
The front desk service to room service were all very helpful. The room was clean and tidy and i totally hada great time at the buffet.Coming again soon with family to stay here as the location is ideal. Thanks to all teh staff again.
Beautiful hotel located 3 minutes walking to fishers theatre and great bars and restaurants. Just stayed there for a show at fisher and we partied the night away. Hotel is lovely. Rooms spacious and clean. Staff was fantastic and so friendly. Thank you!
2 out of 4 days I had no hot water in the shower at all, and the other 2 days the "hot" water was lukewarm, at best. Woke up several times in the night in a sweat because the A/C kept tripping off. Asked for maintenance to look at both and it never happened, or if they did, nothing changed. The main street is a popular location of racing cars in the middle of the night and the hotel had large loud parties booked under my room 2 out of the 4 nights that raged till past midnight. One of those evenings there as 3 parties all at the same time, taking up all hotel parking. When I complained about not finding a parking spot due to party guests, a female manager told me that not a single car in that lot was from any party goers (she said this while we were both in the parking lot having party goers going to and from their cars!). One evening, the marijuana smoke was do heavy in the hallway that you could see the haze. One room door on the floor had the lock/handle kicked off. Staff was great and tried to be accommodating the best they could except that one female manager who just didn't care and said my complaints were me being the problem.
We were in Detroit for a concert at Ford Field, but came couple days early to explore the city. It is extremely easy to get from the hotel to stadiums & museums— we walked to art museum. Likewise, we also enjoyed nearby restaurants & coffee shops, especially Joe Louis’s Southern Kitchen which was also walking distance.
Overall, a very fun long weekend!
A group of about a dozen of us booked rooms at the St. Regis because of a small-scale event in Detroit, at the recommendation of the event organizers, without looking at the reviews of this hotel - which are mostly pretty bad.
Things were not as bad as we feared, but there is lots of room for improvement.
First the good stuff - the on-site staff is great - very warm, welcoming, and helpful where they could be. Secondly, the rooms were all very clean.
Now for the other stuff:
The rooms have nothing on the walls, no pictures or other art, no rugs, nor any color in the bed clothes, no pillows, etc. You get the idea. There were no hangars in some of the rooms. No cups for the coffee makers in some rooms, only thin plastic cups in others - ie nothing to make coffee in. No creamer or sugar either. There was no coffee available in the lobby in the morning. The lobby bar was open only from 5-7 pm on Friday because there was a private event later that needed a bartender. What?!?
There is NO food at all in the hotel - no restaurant or even - minimally - a cold breakfast buffet.
One room reported cold showers.
I asked for a higher floor room and was told that none were available when some of our friends arrived later and got high floor rooms. There is lots of late night traffic noise on the street side.
The overall experience gives the impression that the owners don’t care about the comfort of their guests. “Minimalist” is not a compliment when it comes to the basics hotel guests expect, especially in a hotel
which presents itself as a revival of a formerly luxurious place.
When we arrived at 3pm for check in, we were told to wait 10-15 min. For the next 2 hours, we were continuously told "10-15 more min." It wasn't just us, there were a bunch of people in the lobby at that point. Most of us were going to a concert next door that night, so we were all anxious to get our rooms, get ready, and go. It wouldn't have been as big a deal if they had told us 2 hrs originally, we could've left to get food or something, but the repeated "10-15" kept us anxious to leave. It wasn't the front desk people's fault, I could tell they were peeved about it too, and kept apologizing whenever someone went up.
The rooms themselves were fine-ish. Ours had scattered stains, a broken power outlet, and the lock on top of the door was missing a screw and didn't fully function but we brought our own door stop so that was just meh to us. I imagine is important to others. The plate on the wall showing our room number was also falling off. All the lights worked though and the beds were clean, bottom line thats all we really needed. We tried to laugh everything off and still have a good time. I've had worse hotel experiences. There wasn't any fridge in the room though, which was a bit of a bummer. Overall, it was fine, but poor enough that I'm avoiding it in the future. Id go again if I had to.
The hotel exterior structure suggest it is a good facility, however, staying in the hotel reveals a facility that the owners have decided to invest no money for upkeep.
We entered the room at night and there are no ceiling lights near the door entrance to allow you to see your way into a dark room. Only a floor stand light at the end of the room and a night stand light at each side of the bed existed. Only warm water was available for the shower and it ran cold after about two minutes. The toilet didn't flush properly due to very poor water pressure. The window curtain chain was broke so the curtain would not pull down for privacy or to block morning sun light. The iron was broke. There is no room service. The front desk manager insisted he could not find additional pillows. I had to go downstairs to get the front desk manager to take the time to find me a pillow. . There is no ice machine anywhere in the building. There is no restaurant in the hotel. The gated parking lot has no gate and none of the security lights were on at night. If you stay at this hotel a bad experience awaits you.
Brian at the desk was wonderful!
We all had a blast at the hotel and out and about. Highly recommend the Fisher building tour.
We were very conveniently located to the, free, Q line train. Which was a great added bonus!
Whatever you do, don’t take the stairs in the hotel though!
Staff is excellent. Brian at the front desk helped us get into a better/ready room when our original room wasnt ready. Very appreciative of Brian. We will be back. Rooms are reasonably priced but small. Hotel is in a great location and did not charge for parking
The staff were very friendly and professional. The room was clean and quiet. The service was excellent. I would recommend to anyone looking for a quality stay and price. I really enjoyed the antique and historic characteristics of Hotel St. Regis.
The rooms are lit with bright white grotesque bulbs, so it feels like an interrogation. No ambiance. Walls are scuffed. Sun bleached streaks in the drapes.
Furniture doesn't fit logically in the room. NO ARTWORK. First room, the water didn't drain out of the tub. In the second room, there was unusual TOWEL ART on the bed in the shape of the female genitalia. WHHYYYY?
I checked out an hour after I checked in. Hotel is not in good shape. First room I was given had a broken door and broken a/c system. When I went to open the curtain it sounded like I was opening a jail cell. Bare bones room. Not even artwork. Lots of dings, marks, broken bits. Toilet bowl had a brown stain and discolored water in the toilet.
Second room I tried had no curtain over the window, which faced the street. Room was on the second floor. Same issues with this room in being bare bones, no artwork, lots holes in the wall, etc. Feels like a hospital or insane aslyum.
There is no restaurant on site or nearby. So I'm not sure what "dining experiences" they offer.
My husband and I were scheduled to stay at the Hotel Saint Regis Detroit for 4 nights. We were excited about visiting the city to attend the NFL football game. When we parked the rental car, we saw inconsistencies between what was online and what were seeing. This was not The St. Regis Hotel Atlanta that we are very familiar with.
The parking lot was not secure, there wasn’t any security, and the lobby was darker than the pictures online, the staff was accommodating. Our room was on the 6th floor. When we exited the elevator, we first noticed that there were black marks along walls and doors as if someone had pulled a cart down the hallway and scratched the walls and doors. The online descriptions said remodeled rooms, so we were hopeful. Upon entering and inspecting the room, we noticed that the floor was sticky and dirty, the tabletop was too wobbly to eat on, the room was dark, and the refrigerator had water accumulating at the bottom. Although the tile and grout did not have any molding, the shower sounded like a locomotive. It was so loud and never got warm enough for a good shower. We had the quickest shower ever and had to lay towels on the floor in the bathroom. It was an experience that I never was to experience again.
After one night, we had to find other living arrangements. While I understand that low staffing can cause things to be overlooked, and the lack of attention to detail to be missed, this is unacceptable. The pictures online must be renderings of what the hotel will look like once it’s remodeled. We’ve stayed at other 3-star hotels that were clean and well maintained. I know that everyone has different price points and expectations for hotels, but if you want the Detroit experience then this is not the hotel for you. If you want somewhere to lay your head and don’t mind a less than clean room, then this is a place you should consider.
Thanks for allowing us to leave early so that we could find somewhere else to stay so that we could enjoy the tastes and flavor of the city.
