Cons:

For the price it was okay. One elevator out of three was down. The top bed comforter had something black on it in a couple spots, the sheets looked okay. And, unfortunately a local homeless gentleman got in and committed suicide by jumping off the top floor in the atrium below.

Avoid if you can - totally subpar
Pros:

Doesn’t even have the basics a guest would expect. No shampoo, no hair dryer. Phone on the bedside table didn’t work and they couldn’t bother to answer when I called the main line from my cell phone. Refrigerator so loud you think you’re still at the airport on the runway. Hilton just keeps getting worse no matter which brand you choose.

Positives and Negatives as with Anything
Pros:

There were negatives and positives of this hotel. We were there for a safety convention, so there were quite a few people. The hotel is definitely old, and there are some much needed updates. In our room (which was supposed to be an upgrade), the curtains on both the hallway window and the exterior window had problems. The hallway, we were able to get to close, but the exterior was a much bigger problem. We had to ask the hotel twice about this window (west side of the building so picture the sun in your eyes in bed). The curtains were too short to close all the way. You close one side, the other opened. We were told they didn't have any other curtains to fix it and were going to leave. They finally got a ladder and hung a blanket up on the rod after WE suggested the fix.

The positives: The breakfast was good when they had the guy running the griddle. He was a true griddle master. The event rooms were close to everything so that was handy. The best part, John, who was part of the meeting room staff was a true rock star. That man worked his tail off to make sure the rooms were set as we needed them.

If you’re looking for a warm, wonderful Kansas City visit, BOOK IT!
Pros:

My absolute favorite thing about this property is the staff, by far!! They are beyond amazing and accommodating. My son is Autistic and nonverbal and absolutely loves the pool, happy hour is an AMAZING perk, however I’ve never gone, but it always looks so fun! The atmosphere is just laid back but I feel extremely safe with both of my children. My daughter was in a head on semi collision and has a TBI/Epilepsy/Bradycardia so we frequent the area often to go to KU. It’s definitely worth the drive. Breakfast is amazing, the chef is just the sweetest gentleman. I absolutely love the school program they sponsor and LOVE when I’m actually greeted by the housekeeping staff or a staff member offers me fun facts about KC! We need more places like this is the world.

Cons:

I honestly can’t lie, one time we came and the chef was off and the ladies working were pretty rude. I really don’t like admitting that.

Disappointing and not anywhere near the quality of an Embassy Suites.
Cons:

The service was terrible. Our room lacked linens for the fold out bed and only had 3 towels. Every morning, we had to wait for plates at breakfast and they were always out of half the food options, milk, and juice. When we asked for more plates, the staff always rude and slow. Then they only brought out 2 dozen plates at a time. Tables were left unbussed, so you had to clear them if you wanted to eat. Our room was never serviced. We were gone from 10 to 4:30 and discovered housekeeping never came. We called the front desk 3 separate times and finally by 6 pm they had someone come to vacuum and get our trash but still would not service our room. When we asked for new towels (we had used the same ones for 2 days), we were told they didn't have any because the hotel was fully booked. They stated this is also why housekeeping never made it to our room. We went to the pool to free up our room to be vacuumed and discovered no towels in the pool. I went to tell the front desk and they gave me 5 regular towels (I thought they were out of regular towels) and when I complained about the quality of our stay, they didn't even apologize but just looked at me wide-eyed and blinked. We opted to stay in a Pure Room when we checked in. These rooms are supposed to be hypoallergenic. While packing to leave, I discovered black mold surrounding our window. When we complained, again staff did not apologize or explain what they would do to fix this. The did comp us one night's stay, but I find this in adequate since we were exposed to black mold during our stay and experienced inadequate service our entire stay. I tried to contact corporate to complain, but got shunted back to the property where the individual who called me loyalty for not speak the entire call. When shared disappointment in feeling like the hotel really didn't care about any of our concerns, the person on the phone still didn't apologize.

Some looks may be deceiving
Pros:

Yes, the furnishings are dated and a little worn. But two things stand out here: despite the datedness, it was clean and kept clean; and Alex at the front desk is the best hotel employee I’ve encountered in years over hundreds of hotel nights. Went above and beyond to make me welcome on arrival and during the stay.

I have stayed at the neighboring (and co-owned) Homewood Suites multiple times and found it average at best. But Embassy here is a solid 4.5+, and could be one of the best in the country with a little interior refresh. Looking forward to a return visit.
