It's shut down due to multiple code violations, over due property taxes, non payment of water bill.. it gets worse.
After a routine inspection conducted by Code Enforcement Officer Christine Tamez-McClain, the city issued a “Notice and Order to Abate Unsafe or Unlawful Condition,” on Jan. 28 and a notice that the building “must not be occupied until inspected and approved for occupancy.”
Showed up to find it shut down. Why the website still allows you to make reservations after being closed by the health department is beyond me. Do not waste your time with this place.
Please know that this business has been shut down again due to recent Health Department violations and various delinquent financial obligations.
Shame on you Shilo! This location should be condemned! How it EVER got 3.5 stars is beyond me. First, the person that checked us in, however nice, could have cared about her appearance. Front staff is the first impression. No towels, no bar soap (we had to request from front desk and pick up, was not deliveredable) the towels and bath mat were dingy, thin and rough. There were no hand towels or washcloths available at all. The toilet was not clean and the furnishings were dated. The lampshades were yellow and torn, the heater blows up the back of the curtains holding all the heat. We were not able to get a King view room, even though there were only 5 cars in the massive parking lot, because the cleaning staff leaves at 2 pm. No bedspread or blankets in the room at all and the mattress is dipped and very old. No silverware or paper towels in the area that has the microwave and mini fridge and no coffee maker!! Last thing I'll mention is that the restaurant and bar, which is still listed on every sign and advertisement, has not been open since 2020. There's more but hopefully you get it by now. Do not waste your money here!
There were a number of issues here which were exacerbated by no maid service, I guess because of Thanksgiving. The balcony and glass in front of it were covered in moss and mold (the empty beer bottle looked clean though). Some of the washcloths were stained with some sort of orangish color (looks like someone used it instead of tp), and I discovered - too late - that the sheets had blood stains on them. They looked fresh, rather than stained actually. ( I don't know if that is related to the rash that appeared on my leg in the morning). That was the deal breaker. Hair dryer in the bathroom was broken, thick accumulation of frost in the refrigerator/freezer rendering it unusable, one of the shades would only go halfway up. Pluses: The staff at the reception desk were nice and would have given us cleaner sheets, towels and washcloths so in all fairness, there's that. Also the inn was next to a nice paved path through the dunes.
Only reason for even one star is the location and dog friendly. We were so disappointed. Many years ago this was one of the best hotels at Ocean Shores.
Room was extremely outdated. The beds looked like the three bears story " Someones been sleeping in my bed" . Sheets were extremely wrinkled, the duvets were so old that they were lumpy.. see pics. Key cards had to be replaced 4 times in less then 24 hrs. House phones would not ring the front desk. Carpet was stained. Zero towels in the bathroom so had to go to front desk to ask for them. No wifi, no internet.
Advertisment states breakfast available in the restaurant.. well they no longer have a restaurant. I could go on and on...
DON'T DO IT! Very nasty smell as soon as you walk in. The elevator is disgusting. The floor in the room was terribly soiled, room smelled and you wouldn't dare sit on the filthy couch. We covered the couch with a sheet and I still wouldn't sit on it! What a shame. 15 years ago, this was the most beautiful place to stay in. Now it's not suitable for your pets.
Bathtub was filthy, all rugs were filthy, balcony was absolutely disgusting and dirty.
We didnt realize until we woke up to rske a shower that there was no shower curtain. The water spout you had to push in for the water to come out of the water head didnt stay on. My husband almost slipped on the floor after getting out of the shower. We put the small towel on the floor but it wasnt bug enough since there was no shower curtain. No coffee cups fir coffee. Room is very outdated. We will not stay here again.
I have been taking my family here for over 20 years. This is the first time that I was disgusted with the place. The toilet was clogged. The room was still dirty. They had not cleaned the rooms properly. There was still a used bar of soap in shower. The carpet looked like it had mot been vacuumed. My child had to use a cup and it was dirty.
Room was dirty and smelled like a dog was there. Staff was very friendly.
Upon checking in at the Shilo Inn we were greeted by a front desk employee, and she asked if we were checking in and we said yes, she then proceeded to tell us that the room that we booked had been rented out and that they did not return the keys, so they had to put us in another room which was not what we asked for, but we took it. She finally told us that the restaurant was permanently closed. The hotel itself is run down and not clean at all. Our room was very dirty especially the carpet we did not walk around without shoes or flip flops. The bathroom shower was messed up and my husband had to fiddle with it just to get the shower to come on and although we had an ocean view from our room, we could not enjoy it as the windows were dirty and moldy, and the deck and deck chairs were so dirty that that we could not sit outside which was a shame because the weather was beautiful. We had intended to use the pool and hot tub, but it was not kept up at all and looked very dirty, and we saw potato bugs crawling around. Let's just say that the pictures and description of this property were very deceiving on the website. Talk about false advertisement!! We were not surprised that there were very few cars in the parking lot. We decided to make the best of it since this trip was to celebrate our 50th anniversary and we wanted to take a short trip and drove 3 hours to get there. We stayed out of the room all day and only slept there. I wish we could get a full refund!!

Hotel was dirty and understaffed. We only had 2 wash cloths for a 3 night stay. They were out the whole time. We had to use hand towels as wash cloths. The front doors were rusted open, all the way. They would not close. The staff were very sweet, and did what they could do. They were very apologetic. It wasnt their fault. Our bathroom door needed a good washing on both sides. They needed to vaccume the hard to reach places. The carpet was full of stains. The tv in the dining/couch area was broken. The whole room stunk.
This was the filthiest hotel and room I ever stayed in. It’s very rundown. We rented it because they had a hot tub and My Husband has a bad back. The hot tub was closed for repairs. It kind of feels like no one‘s even trying to make it look nice, Our room was very cute but when we walked in the first thing we noticed was dirt all over the floor. We walked downstairs immediately and asked for a recleaning. But even after the recleaning. There was still dirt and hair all over the floor.. the next morning there was a coffee pot in the room, but no coffee or cups. We asked the lobby if there was coffee in the lobby and there was none.. staff didn’t seem to be concerned that we were filling uncomfortable.
Dirty. Dirty, Dirty
Stayed in Sept
No towels, jetted tub broken, no coffee or cups, not glasses for bathroom, spare tv did not work. No water in sink by coffee pot. Floor was so dirty when you walked across floor your feet turned up black.
The fish tank in lobby. So much algae
Horrible
Restaurant closed. Pool closed
Now I hear it is closed
No wonder the manager has never contacted me.
No restaurant or bar since Covid. Fireplaces do not work and are electric. No towels or cups in the suite. Staff was very nice and knowledgeable of the area.
The view was amazing, the kids loved the pool, pet friendly, staff was very helpful and nice. You can clearly tell they have fell on some hard times but the staff tries very hard to be as accommodating and hospitable as possible which means more to me than it being outdated and a few amenities being down.
I WOULD stay here again... location is fabu... setting is fabu...
But imagine getting to a hotel/motel room and finding ZERO soap in the room (none of any kind). There were precisely two towels in the room. Both little more than hand towels. There were also zero cups/glasses in the room upon arrival.
I also never could get any air conditioning to work in my room at all. Luckily it was "the shoulder season" and I could open the deck door.
Indeed you could go to the counter and request those items. I even saw lush large towels on the (front) counter (of the establishment) at various times (so often when I was leaving, vs. when returning to my room).
The location is incredible for awesome sunsets, and amazing star-watching after dark as well as usual beach activities. DEER were feeding on the grass behind the hotel one morning. (DEER are all over Ocean Shores)
I just think that... the "Shilo Inn" name should bring the minimum standards up to a level where at least SOME soap might be encountered upon first arrival in one's room.
Imagine rushing to your hotel, merely to check in, and then you go look at the room, or drop bags, and use the bathroom & can't properly clean your hands right then.
If that were the 'standard' all around, then OK, but nobody is wrong for anticipating soap in a room.
(and it really is "what people reasonably expect" that is a seeming standard in this case)
Despite that slip-up, this remains a great location and I really would stay there again.
I really liked the location, it was an older hotel, that showed, the staff was very helpful, that was great. The on-site restaurant was closed, that was a bummer. But overall a good stay.
Alot of dirt and dusty gummy bears in the air conditioner. Coffee pot no cups or coffee. No soap or shampoo or even towels. No restaurant or lounge and pool and exercise room closed. Definitely the worst run hotel i ever been to. I don't recommend this place to anyone. Its probably not going to make it much longer some locals thought it already closed down
