Pros:

Location and breakfast were great

Cons:

The air conditioning didn't work and clearly this was a long standing issue that the hotel knew about according to our check un receptionist ! This factored in booking this hotel for the expensive price it was during a heat wave. Not only this the shower in the room really badly leaked and the fridge for cooling drinks and water didn't work at all in the room. I understand they are refurbishing but the room was tired and not working 😕 for nearly 200 pounds excluding breakfast this was unacceptable sadly.

Heatwave at the Mercure
Pros:

Location excellent. Comfortable room. Pool & gym were fine. Air con worked well in the heatwave

Cons:

Parts looked a bit tired. Problem with the chillers meant there was no draught beer & limited choice of bottled beer (ie no ales) though a “wide range”was advertised on the bar. In mitigation the chillers going down happened during the June heatwave.
Also, service at the bar was slow due to a new start member of staff being left on their own when the bar was busy with guests returning from a concert.

Good hotel, great location but need to sort out the air con problem
Pros:

Location was great for Exeter city centre. Room was nice, bathroom was great

Cons:

The air conditioning wasn’t working at the hotel. And although there was a fan set up in the room and we were given 2 complimentary drinks, the room was still very hot and stuffy as our stay was during the late June heatwave. We couldn’t open the curtains as this would allow more sunlight into the room. So all in all, it wasn’t a particularly comfortable stay. I feel we should have been made aware of the A/C problem before we arrived so at least we had the choice of whether or not to stay at the hotel

Pros:

Great location for walking to the city centre. Loads of options for breakfast for the price. Lovely decor and welcoming staff.

Cons:

Air-con didn't work, in the 30+ heatwave but did get supplied with a fan which worked through the night to keep us cool.

Our Exeter stay
Pros:

Like the location, central with parking, close to shops, bars etc

Cons:

Was offered a refurbished room that was very nice, no drawer space even for a few days and few hangers 6 between 2 of us not enough.
The grout in the bathroom/shower enclosure had mould to it.
