I stayed at the ocean view room this time 2nd floor and was very impressed. The room is very spacious
Perfect location! Resturants outstanding . This hotel is renovating .
Under construction noisy. The housekeeping was slow understaffed front desk was not pleasant seemed natalie was stressed. Maybe she could be used in housekeeping .
The hotel is under a major renovation and a complete mess. The pool is closed; the garage gates don't work using the room key and the room AC does not cool the room. When booking the hotel none of these issues were made clear. It's 45 dollars per day to park, but we were told it would be 45 dollars for the week. The beach chairs are actually soccer chairs and very uncomfortable. Look elsewhere as the accommodations are terrible.
Place is old and tired but pretty well kept and they’re remodeling. Can’t beat the location. Easy beach, restaurant and walking access. Pleasant staff. Breakfast is good. Coffee is excellent. Would go back.
We had a beautiful oceanfront view with deck. Nice amenities. They are in the midst of a major remodel, but we didn't hear any construction noise and weren't bothered by that. Our room was very quiet, and bed was very comfortable.
We enjoyed staying here as a family. We picked up coffee and breakfast and spent some leisure time each morning eating on the beach. This hotel is also a good central location for traveling to the San Diego zoo and Legoland, which are within ~30-35 minutes from the hotel. The burgers, tacos and drinks at the hotel were delicious, too!
Inconsistent clarity from all the dining team on open seating access or reservations and receiving service or not while dining outside. Lack of guest attention by many team members socializing at hostess station outside, decided to dine elsewhere for lunch and dinner. Had breakfast and unfortunately the omelet was charred black on the backside and very overdone. My wife’s eggs were cold. She ate the cold eggs and I requested a new omelet, this time I did not get my toast back on the plate and I realized the morning before no toast was served to me either. The cappuccinos were in traditional coffee mugs and were less than ½ the mug full, not the case last time we stayed with you. Meals are not inexpensive so you would appreciate getting what you are paying for. Could not get a toilet plunger up to the room in a timely fashion, after over an hour and a half wait was directed by front desk to use toilet in lobby and lobby toilet was occupied, so not helpful. Scaffolding above exit door of garage fell down as we were exiting with a large bolt aiming at the windshield, luckily it did not hit the truck yet we were unable to exit so directed to back up and out of entrance and it would not open without a key so waited for key to arrive to get out. We are 3rd time guests and had hoped to make this a routine destination yet not sure we will come back at this point. We spent over $1000 for two nights. We would appreciate a credit be issued or even a gift certificate to try one more stay after the repairs are complete and the guest experience is elevated.
Good location on the beach, if you want a quiet escape don't book the garden rooms, very loud at night by the game area. Disappointed that half the hotel was closed for renovations including the swimming pool and spa. I hope they plan to renovate the side of hotel we stayed in, very dated.
Beautiful, perfect location but entire hotel needs an update. The beds and bedding however are very nice. The rooms are clean, housekeeping does a good job. It is currently under construction but the rooms itself are not being addressed.
Food in the restaurant is good the food served at the 3 day event was fair
Great beach front location! We enjoyed the facilities next door at La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club. Walkable to restaurants and shops.
Great staff and experience. We are working on when we can go back. Hotel had some construction going on but other than not being able to use the pool, it did not effect us.
Highly recommend La Jolla Shores Hotel / Beach & Tennis. Prior to our visit, Justin at the reservation office, was very imformative with helping us make our room selection and answering all of our questions. We decided to stay in a condo @ Beach and Tennis for our family size/needs. Everyone there was super friendly and helpful with restaurant suggestions, tips, grocery delivery, etc and went out of their way to make sure our stay was extra special. The kids enjoyed playing pickleball, swimming in the heated pool, exploring the grounds and watching the sunsets on the beach. We were within close walking proximity to many great restaurants, a convenience store, ice cream and a short drive to town and also to Torrey Pines for incredible hiking/views. The Marine Room restaurant was our favorite meal by far. Our server, John, was so friendly and knowledgeable. The food was unique, fresh and delicious. On our second to last night, we misplaced a very sentimental item that belongs to my son. Everyone went above and beyond to help us track it down, especially Victor, the housekeeping manager and the housekeeper who found it. We can't thank them enough!
Overall, an amazing vacation for our family to unwind, reconnect and spend quality time together. California definitely holds a special place in our hearts and we look forward to our next visit. Thank you for a wonderful stay and unforgettable memories made!
Perfect location for beach front rooms with an amazing view. This is the place to stay if you want to be on the beach and its for families or a romantic getaway.
Having the pool & hot-tub closed during renovations was a MAJOR disappointment with no notice. This was a romantic getaway weekend & we purposefully looked for a hotel with these amenities. The Valencia hotel was available for use, but not a convenient walking distance, there was no hot tub there, the pool was full of screaming small children, AND the 3 times we attempted to use the hotel shuttle service, the wait was 45min-3hrs until available. Overall NO amenities were useful & being charged a resort fee is a joke!
I made this reservation in September 2025 3-nights 4-days to celebrate my husbands birthday. I specifically asked for Beachfront deluxe room with two queen beds. Upon arrival I was told " we upgraded you" - I didn't ask for an upgrade and did not want a king bed. When I inquired I was asked "didn't the manager call you to see if it was okay" and I said no one called me. So when I asked again for the corner room beachfront deluxe room it became apparent this room was NOT available. Also, I was NOT told that there was constructions going on (disruptive) and the pool was closed! Paying over $2200 I expected more. Although the room was clean, the outside patio was dirty and it was NOT a corner room. We ordered two nights take out, and the food was excellent. The room service carts started ~ 6:30 am and were very noisy traveling on the Mexican travertine tile - so much for trying to "sleep in". We won't be back.
My son and I had a great experience with staying here. It is really a family friendly place and they have outdoor fire pits that you can get a scores kit and let the kids roast marshmallows in the evening after playing in the pool or the near by playground.
We have stayed here several times, the staff is amazing. I wish the rooms were more updated and that the distinct smell could be cleaned from it. It just still seems “old”. I really love this place and would stay if it could be updated even more with the bathroom fixtures, walls, and flooring. When I asked if the construction was to update the rooms- they told me it was to update the balconies. I feel like the insides should be updated first. But overall, staying directly on the beach is awesome and the price is great for it!
The room was very quiet, a great bed, wonderful staff and beach view if you stand up. It's great that they except dogs. Since they're remodeling you should know there are less amenities. Until it's remodeled "resort" is a stretch. Luxury rooms is a complete miss for the money. The beach helps make up for that but not enough.
Safe and fun family experience!
Great view of the ocean and spacious and clean rooms. I would definitely recommend this place.
Great place to stay. Really nice location and parking was easy. The downside was the drunk gal at the hotel bar screaming endless profanities at the hotel bar.
