Cheerful, clean and comfortable stay for RMxSFMOMA
Pros:

We were in San Francisco to see RMxSFMOMA and the location was excellent for that plus it was a short walk from the BART station on Powell, which was a direct line in from the airport. It made it so easy for me. The room was clean and cosy with a nice retro feel. I really liked the old Deco vibe of the whole place: faded grandeur without being shabby. Other guests were friendly too. The location is pretty noisy at night (our room overlooked the street). SF drivers navigate by honking their horns but with the double window closed, it cut out most of the sound. It's nothing fancy, there's no restaurant or even coffee facilities in the room (my experience of those in American hotels has been AWFUL anyway so they're best avoided!! I'm a European so don't talk to me about your instant coffee, please) but there is drip coffee served in the mornings in a room off the foyer and I enjoyed sending my gf down to fetch me one while I lounged in bed like a fat butch (which I am). We were not the only ARMY staying in the hotel, which was also nice. I would definitely come back next time I come to San Fran. Bonus points for being right next door to a Trader Joes for SNACKS. I miss it already.

Cons:

We asked to have our room made up with fresh towels on the 2nd or 3rd day which didn't happen. One working lift for the whole building. I'm not really complaining - we had a few great lift chats with other guests. You absolutely could take the stairs but we were on 5th floor.

the location ONLY, other than that, my worst experience in my 42 years

Cons:

I discovered that the room I’d booked didn’t have a private bathroom, so I went downstairs to ask about upgrading. One staff member appeared to find an available room and started arranging the upgrade. Then another staff member said something, and suddenly I was told it was no longer available. There was no clear explanation, which left me frustrated.

If you market yourself as a hotel, rooms without a private bathroom must be clearly and prominently labelled before booking, not buried in the small print. Guests should know exactly what they’re paying for upfront.
