Location and room
Breakfast
Bedroom was spacious and well laid out. Bed was firmer than used to but was was comfortable and enjoyed sleeping in the bed. The dining room was nice and was a great room. Breakfast was really good
Loud swearing and abuse in the lane on the first night at 12.30am and 4.0am in the morning, apparently there is an ongoing problem with this. Friendliness of couple of the staff serving breakfast, need to learn to smile and engage more. On check out at reception when an elderly lady asked for a water and she was directed to the dining area. Need to have better customer experiences top of mind
Breakfast was great. Loved the valet parking
Decor in the bedrooms looks a little tired but is very comfortable
Old world charm
Ordered two beds only one provided
A great location and helpful staff
Location
Cold
The room was very big and was very close to Bourke Street I liked how old the building was and how well maintained it was.
Very creaky and noisy at times, also find if you book through an agency like booking.com you are always given room with no views. Our room was facing office building and way around in back block.
The room was excellent and very comfortable
The breakfast was one of the best I have had - some very interesting dishes which made it stand out from the usual hotel breakfast
It is only a minor issue, but when I arrived to check in, I was fairly tired after a very busy work week, and I was looking forward to a relaxing stay. The person on the check in desk was more focussed on checking all details of my booking and when she momentarily couldn't see them in her system, she was a tad sharp' in her subsequent questioning and I felt as if I was taking up her time. I absolutely understand the need for checking details but the hotels one goes back to are often the one where you felt welcome right from the beginning of the stay.
We wanted atmosphere, the hotel did not disappoint. Although some areas need some TLC in the hotel, overall it was what we were looking for. Old world luxury & charm which was an experience. Loved walking down the halls & seeing some areas with stained glass windows, the names of suites, the amazing staircase when looking up or down into it, the old lift well….just a really lovely experience. If you’re looking for modern 5 star luxury, this hotel is not for you but 5-star old world charm it certainly provides.
Honestly, it was the breakfast if I had to single something out. The English muffins that my eggs were on. I wouldn’t judge our hotel stay on this though. It probably comes down to a personal taste difference. I’d definitely still recommend breakfast as part of room stay as it all adds to the overall experience of the hotel & its spaces.
This hotel needs some attention; it's getting old and losing its charm.
Location, professionalism of staff
Fair enough it’s a historic property, but , it is obviously well overdue for an update.
I love the location of this hotel and the ambience of the public areas is lovely with a hint of faded glory. There is good close access to some lovely parks which are great for a walk. The hotel is at the top end of town which is the quieter end. The standard rooms are fine but the large rooms are really large.
I have stayed here regularly and the staff are just never very pleasant. The exception is the concierge who is a real asset to the hotel. A smile and a welcome back from the others would help. The rooms and particularly the bathrooms are a little bit tired.
