Lovely old world charm, really good room size with a hallway, bedroom, walk in robe and a bathroom.
Recent renovations so the paintwork was really fresh.
Great location for shops and restaurants, short walk to gardens.
Excellent value for money, we took the valet parking and breakfast package with a room upgrade.
Solid walls so the room was quiet even though we were near the lifts.
Breakfast was lovely in the beautiful dining room.
A few small things..
The room was cold and the heater/aircon unit looks ancient. Maybe the hotel could at least turn the heater on before guest arrival. It took over ten minutes between turning the heater on before it started working. I called guest services and a very abrupt lady told me to wait twenty minutes then call back. Not really five star service.
The TV wouldn’t turn on with the remote, we discovered it was all turned off at the wall. Surely preparing a room would see the TV turned on at the wall?
The gap between toilet and vanity is so small I needed to sit sideways. The toilet took twenty minutes for the cistern to fill, I took the cover off the cistern, made an adjustment and it seemed to improve.
The bathroom door hinges squeaked really loudly. Maybe the cleaners could tell maintenance and a spray of WD40 is simple to do.
Bed was firm, pillows thin, no extra pillows or cushions provided in the room.
Dressing gown but no slippers.
Overall staff were efficient but lacked warmth.
Convenience to theatres

Such an experience to stay at a heritage property
Given the age of the property some facilities like air conditioning and plumbing are not as effective as a newer property. The balance is between technology and character.
The bed was super, and the linen crisp.
The common areas were need upgrading.
Convenient to places we wanted to visit.
The property was dated but part of the charm
Location, staff service, room was good size and clean. The high tea was fabulous generous with food and staff were amazing. Interesting watching a mouse run back and forth the dining room but we were denied taking our left over cakes with us back to our room....
The bed was lumpy, and uncomfortable, definitely let the entire experience down. I had a 3 night stay and had to ring down for extra milk (uht) on the first night would have preffered fresh milk, wasn't sure where I could get a decent coffee in the hotel. I also specified and upgraded to room with a view but I was put in a room with no view (windows were filmed over), the corridor to and from my room felt unsafe (long dark isolated at the back of the hotel).
The historic building. Beautiful
I love the peaceful old world feel and closeness to a nice part of the city for cafes and shopping.
I was travelling from bendigo and would have loved earlier access to my room to settle
in and refresh before my meeting.
The three times I’ve needed early check-in and requested. It a week earlier it’s been only a minimal time difference. Access from
noon for pre booked people regional visitors would be very helpful.
Quirky historic hotel great location, enjoyed the history of it
Staff could have been a little happier, most didn’t appear to have much interest, it seemed a little sad as the hotel is something to be proud of even if it’s a little shabby, that’s part of its charm I think
A beautiful hotel, bed was comfy, rooms were large.
Toilet and vanity basin were extremely close
Central location, easy walking distance to shops, restaurants, theatre district, MCG and Southbank. Rooms are large with comfy bed.
Staff not overly friendly. Miss the old days when a doorman meet you at the front door and staff were more attentive, made you feel special. Interior lovely but getting a little tired.
The location and setting is really beautiful.
I booked two rooms, same price, same standard (superior). My friend’s room was much bigger and had a nicer view. I could understand if my room was a lower price or a different standard, but for the same price, it was disappointing.
The check in process was long. We arrived at check in time (3pm) and I was the 8th in line. There were 2 staff checking guests in, a third staff member left the area. Having 3 staff on for check in would have reduced the time waiting to check in (20 mins), there was a wedding on and many people standing around. The staff were lovely and very accommodating.
So much history
Friendly staff
