The Benson is a beautiful old hotel with comfortable rooms
Pros:

It is in a good location in the heart of the city near nice stores and Powell’s Books which is wonderful. The onsite restaurant has a good breakfast and great coffee. There is a fireplace in the lobby and a pianist plays in the evening.

Cons:

Parking is $59 but there’s a secure lot across the street just to the south for $28. And Portland has a lot of homeless people in this area.

Meh. Nice enough I guess for the price.
Pros:

Room was clean and bed was comfortable.

Cons:

Very vanilla. No special amenities. Food was left in our room fridge. Room view looked like we were in prison.

Pros:

Why does the restaurant’s water taste so bad in such an elegant hotel?
Pros:

Grand old hotel decently located in a city challenging for downtown locations.

Cons:

The amenities are like a basic chain hotel location, nowhere up to the standard that the building and its history deserve. One glaring example is the horribly chlorine tasting water served in the Palm Court restaurant. The wonderful waiters will not allow you glass to get empty, but the water is not really not pleasant. What a miss!

Deserves a Travelers Choice
Pros:

Good location. Professional staff. Comfortable room and bed. Clean.
Definitely worth walking down the 12 stairwell to see their pictures as soon many US presidents have stayed here.

The Benson was a great stay and the location was in the middle of downtown where walking to nearby spots was more conven
Pros:

The location was very convenient, all the staff was more than accommodating.

Cons:

Bathroom door failed to close fully and lock, the ac didn’t get super cold but I wasn’t as big of an issue.
