A gem of a hotel
Pros:

A really beautiful historic hotel, very well maintained. Great gym facilities, comfortable rooms and well decorated. Staff were fantastic too.

Cons:

Service we a bit slow in the restaurant for breakfast. Downtown Portland is not particularly nice, though the hotel can’t help that!

Overall welcoming and comfortable at good value
Pros:

We were welcomed by Johnny on the graveyard shift and it made a real difference after our exhausting trip. He was an xcellent introduction to the hotel. Other staff were also accomodating. The room was very clean and comfortable. Compared with other hotels in the area, this was a good value.

Cons:

The location in downtown Portland has a lot of history, but is very rundown with open drug use outside. I never felt unsafe but it can be disconcerting for people not familar with the city.

Classy hotel!
Pros:

the staff was really nice, we loved the history, the location, the beds were soft, the room was clean and quiet. we had a really nice stay and would recommend it to anyone and return

Cons:

I wish that the lounge on the bottom floor had hours for kids, so we could have enjoyed that area. it looked really interesting and comfortable, and it sounded like the drinks and food were great but I couldn't leave my kids behind and didn't want to go alone

We were in town for a fencing competition, brought the whole family and it was lovely. Great memory.
Pros:

Beautiful hotel, comfortable rooms, great location.

Cons:

Staff in restaurant/bar was sometimes great and sometimes not. If someone isn't good, it REALLY shows. :)

Portland is a dying city and this hotel is reflecting its surroundings; Once a beautiful place, now in a slow decay!
Pros:

The hotel has an amazing classic feel and elegance to it.

Cons:

The first room I received was dirty (someone’s hair all over the bathroom floor, stains on the carpet and bedding). Ended up complaining and being moved to a suite, when staff was making the sofa bed, they discovered used/dirty linens already on the mattress. Outside of the hotel (a Portland city problem)it’s pretty disgusting with the homeless prowling the sidewalks defecating on the streets and open drug usage, which was concerning with my children accompanying me on the vacation.

Pros:

I liked the fact to was close to many attractions, and was a beautiful hotel. Upon request, the staff provided a microwave.

Cons:

The shower was not working properly and taking bath took along time. The water was not flowing evenly. The fact that there was no self laundromat was very inconvenient

Fantastic Customer Service, Great Location
Pros:

We stayed at The Benson and chose this area so we could explore downtown Portland. Fantastic location, so many places to shop and eat within walking distance. Everyone single staff person was incredibly helpful and kind.

The beds are very soft, too soft for me with prior back issues. I didn't realize the softness of the beds until we returned late evening. I reached out in the Hilton app explaining the situation and asked if they had a roll away bed. Will responded and said they found one and would have it taken up to the room. Within 30-40 minutes, 2 gentleman arrived with the rollaway bed, extra warm sheets, blankets and an extra pillow. One gentleman rolled the bed in, and we problem -solved the issue with space. He was friendly, understanding and wished everyone a good night before departing. This team went above and beyond and saved me from back issues the next morning.

The next day our Uber driver was confused about the pick up spot and the 2 gentleman at Valet helped me understand the Uber driver was parked too far off to walk and gave me the hotel address and encouraged me to message the Uber driver and tell him to pick us in front of the hotel.
Truly, every staff member we had an interaction with from the moment we arrived until we left was so helpful.

Definitely book your stay at The Benson.
