5 star vibes for two star price!
Pros:

This hotel exceeded my expectations. the historic building is wonderfully decorated in old Hollywood style and the property is well maintained. The hotel staff were very kind. Before going out for dinner we stopped at the bar inside the hotel for some drinks and an appetizer. It had speak easy vibes that we really liked. Food and drinks were so yummy. The room was small but clean. The bathroom was beautiful as well with original tile and mini crystal chandelier. Next time we visit Portland we are definitely staying here again.

Terrible experience
Pros:

I have stayed at this hotel many times over the years and been very happy. However the last stay was truly one of the worst experiences I have ever had at a hotel.

Cons:

Starting on arrival, the room we were given was not fully cleaned, the furniture was worn and shabby. And that was not even the worst of it. We found crumbs in the floor next to the bed, the blinds in the bathroom were covered in dust and the shower would not drain properly so you were forced to shower standing in ankle deep water.
At 11 pm a beeping or whirring sound started and cycled off and on all night long. It was impossible to sleep because of it. At first we thought it was outside and walked around the outside to see if the sound was coming from the street. But it was definitely in the room, potentially coming from the HVAC system. When we asked to move rooms they told us there was nothing they could do about it, and the front desk was very unpleasant and rude. We had to leave and find alternative accommodation at another hotel ultimately. The Deluxe concierge assured us we would not be charged for the 2 remaining nights on our stay and that I would have to work that out with Booking. However, Booking did not provide any refund and blamed the property. The whole experience was expensive and beyond disappointing. This was a hotel I loved. I will never stay there again. The conditions of the room, the staff’s unwillingness to find a solution and the rude service we experienced were an embarrassment to hospitality.

Erg vieze vloerbedekking en een gat in hoofdbord van bed. Er werd ons een andere kamer beloofd, maar niet gekregen. Ze zeiden dat ze vol zaten en er een personeelstekort was. Management onbereikbaar. Teleurstellende reactie van Booking. Ze gaven aan dat de accomodatie niet reageerde op hun contact aanvragen. We kregen uiteindelijk een voucher van 15% van de boekingswaarde en nog een email om te vertellen dat de accomodatie niet reageerde, met het telefoonnummer er onder van het hotel. Voor als we het zelf nog wilden oplossen.....

We loved the place but too risky at our age to get to our room. go back
Pros:

Lovely location, parking near and wonderful decor and every comfort imagined. At checkout young woman got our luggage down the stairs to the exit for us.

Cons:

Steep interior steps to lobby. Sign said ring for assistance but doorbell had been removed. Asked at check-in counter for help with luggage and was told there was elevator at base of stairs. Not true: Go thru service door to basement, down steep concrete steps to laundry area to reach elevator.

A longtime visitor, and would stay again
Pros:

BOTH restaurant and bar were excellent. Perhaps one of the most outstanding breakfast experiences I have had (at Gracie's), and the bartender the night before had a full house, but handled it with expertise (shout out to Gregory). Cozy everything, and the lobby is lovely.

Cons:

Paid extra for a larger room with a King sized bed, but one side of the bed was really compressed, and there was a hump in the middle - making it difficult to reach my partner to cuddle. The biggest issue was that the side closest to the door had such a slump that I was falling off much of the night. Really needs a mattress upgrade. But the room was great otherwise, if a little worn.
