11:30pm I realize the heat doesn’t work. An “engineer” came to look at it and recommended I switch rooms. Called the front desk to arrange a new room. Packed and waited for them to come back. They didn’t. By midnight the power in the entire building went out: no lights in rooms or hallways, no heat, no running water, phones not operating - can’t communicate with the front desk. I decided to sleep in my dark cold room as I had no other choice. Very disappointed and I feel uncomfortable and concerned for the lack of power in this building. I would hope they comp the room charges for the night, but somehow I doubt that will happen.
⭐⭐⭐ 3/5
We recently stayed at the Renaissance Philadelphia Downtown Hotel and had a mixed experience.
On the positive side, the room was a really nice size, the location is fantastic. Great view
However, the bathroom lighting was very dim, which made getting ready difficult. The mattress wasn’t the most comfortable, and we could hear quite a bit of noise from neighboring rooms, which took away from the overall comfort.
Overall, it’s a solid option for the location and room size.
Our room had no heat and we had to wait hours to change rooms . Although the room is large and modern, the lighting is bad and it’s especially hard to read in bed the way the bedside lighting is set up. . The closet is tiny, if you even call it a closet, and the bar to hang clothing is situated at the bottom, so dresses and coats hang on the floor. Food in the restaurant was bad. I wouldn’t stay here again.
The staff was friendly and professional, and the location can’t be beat.
Cleanliness
No coffee at 6am
Valle parking very slow for the price paid
Breakfast very good
Rooms could be remodeled. Furniture getting old
Overall a nice hotel
I know it's urban, but this left a lot of room for improvement. Location was fine and easy to get to, lots of local sights to see. The gym smelled horrible, the room itself was minimal without even a comforter on the bed in November (we had to request one at the front desk).
Dining was not an option after finding mice in the bar area in the AM. Thankfully the local area has many an option for eating, and a 10 minute walk in any direction will yield you many good dining options.
Very disappointing. The gym is antiquated and several cardio machines are out of order . Inadequate towels which I discovered only as I was about to get in the shower. One of those hotels that no longer gives amenities except a small tube of smelly lotion. The staff is not particularly friendly in the restaurant, and someone in the decor department decided that a jumble of wires under the shelf near the bed is aesthetically attractive. This is not surprising given the fact that the mirror declares on its surface that " it is art". Someone who thinks a that a jumble of wires is appealing might think that a mirror is art. I prefer a pretty room without the lecture. Nothing about this hotel impressed me.
We stayed at the hotel and had to spend the day working in the lobby. We needed an area to work as a group and Joe went well out of his way to ensure we had a quiet space, coffee and everything we needed. We had not planned well but thankfully due to Joe's extraordinary efforts and hospitality we had a very productive and comfortable meeting. He was great!
Everything
Nothing to dislike
I like the place the room was so cozy the view was amazing. And the room was so big we was comfortable. We love it’s was great.
The heat was taking to long to heat the room that’s all. And there was no microwave I think people might like it better if there was a microwave in the or in the lobby.
This was the worse hotel I’ve ever stayed. After driving 4 hours by car (to attend a funeral) we arrived around 10:30 to the hotel. Upon checking in, we were directed to the service elevator (1st red flag) because the main elevator was not working. Entering the room, we found it quite dark, ALL the walls were painted black including the bathroom. We sanitized the room as we usually do and had food delivered via Uber Eats. We left the bag with our empty and used food containers near the trash and went to sleep with the television on. Around 4:15 we were awakened to noise in the corner where we left trash bin and the bag we placed after eating. My husband and I immediately grabbed our phones and used the light to see where the noise was coming from. We didn’t see anything from our bed, the noise stopped after a few minutes so we decided the noise may have come from the vents in the wall in that area of the room. We were able to fall back asleep. When my husband got up around 8am he checked the area only to see a RODENT had eaten through the bag and containers. He took a picture and decided it was best to inform me when we checked out and I’m glad he did because I was totally SHOCKED and SHUCK. I have NEVER EVER experienced this in my life. We informed the manager as we were checking out. His response “I don’t know what to say” I am sure this was not the first time this has happened and I’m sure it won’t be the last so I’m letting everyone know STAY AWAY FROM THIS PROPERTY. Oh, we still had to pay for our stay and the hotel promised accommodation for this major inconvenience has not been received to date. Marriott Corporate needs to check out this property. They are giving Marriott bad name.
My family and I had a wonderful experience at this hotel during Thanksgiving week.
The hotel itself has been redone well and the location is excellent; however, what made the stay extraordinary was the staff. The manager was amazing and really looked out for my family’s experience. The rest of the team was also lovely.
I recommend this hotel highly and will return.
We came to Philadelphia for a meet up with friends and a weekend of jazz and sightseeing. Our rooms were promptly available, spacious and comfortable. We enjoyed spectacular views of several green spaces and gardens including the Independence National Historical Park.
Our location was accessible to many historic sites including the Museum of the American Revolution and Independence Hall.
The entire staff including the manager, Cary, were accommodating, customer centered and willing to go the extra mile which enhanced our comfort and made for a very pleasant stay.
I am writing in regards to our experience at first daughter oyster and company. My husband and I were visiting for a weekend getaway with friends. We returned to the hotel for cocktails after dinner and received no service. Upon sitting at the bar around 9:30 no menu was offered. About 15 minutes passed when we were finally addressed by the bar tender. My husband ordered an old fashion and I requested a cocktail menu. Another 15 minutes passed when finally the bar tender returned asking what type of bourbon for the old fashion and offered a cocktail menu. We refused drinks at this point after 30 minutes waiting at the bar. This is a disgrace to Marriott properties! We went to bed and refuse to give this location any more money. It was as if the bar tender did not want any further orders for the night when it was 10pm.
We will pick another Marriott location in center city for our next stay as we typically do due to this poor experience.
