Close to everything
Very much in need of everything updated
The location
It was being remodeled
Very comfortable bed, room
The fire alarm went off 5 times from 9pm- midnight. I had been driving for 20 hours and did not get a good night sleep. I had no idea that the hotel was under renovations, which impacted various aspects.
Cleanliness and location
Renovations
When we booked the hotel no one told us they were doing renovation on the hotel. After going in the front we were greeted with workmen and noise. We asked about the noise and they said it was done at 5 and they started at 9. We went ahead and took our assigned room. After getting to her room my sister decided to change hotels. We went ahead and stayed the night. We were only going to be there that night. Out TV would not pick up local channels and some of the other channels. The maintenance guy came up and tried to fix it but didn’t. When we took our shower the next morning we discovered the bathroom exhaust wasn’t working. Our bathroom was filled with moisture. My husband went to breakfast but came back up quickly. It was very limited selections I’m assuming because they were renovating it limited what they could serve. I would not recommend this hotel until renovations are complete and if rooms are updated.
I am not one that usually worries about making a Trip Advisor review but I feel this stay warranted one. I have been a GM at hotels in the past and so have several acquaintances and we are all in agreement this is not a normal practice. I booked this hotel months ago due to an appointment for my husband at the VA hospital in Tuscaloosa using a military rate. After arriving in Tuscaloosa, we stopped to grab a bite to eat when I noticed that I had received an email from the front desk stating that unless I had active duty military orders that they would not honor my rate and would either cancel my reservation if they don't hear from me or change my rate to $369 a night. We used the military rate all the time and have never had a problem. The rate that I booked was $110.00. My first concern is, how are you going to contact someone via email that is traveling 6 hours to get there and not looking at their email instead of calling them. When I asked them why they didn't call they advised that they didn't have my number on file, I looked at my Bonvoy account my number was attached. They didn't call because the knew I was going to be mad. Apparently there was a big concert going on that weekend and all of the hotels were booked and rates were ridiculous. I still don't know how you can just change someone's rate just because prices were raised. After arguing with them they decided that the best that they could do was $199. Had everything not been booked and outrageously priced, I would have just said cancel it. To add insult to injury here, this hotel did not meet the Marriott standards that I am used to. I am used to walking into Marriott's and complimenting how good they always smell. Not this one, it smelled like someone had taken a crap in the lobby. Upon getting to the room, the room did not have 2 queen it had 2 full beds. The bathtub looked disgusting, I wore my flip flops in the shower. There was dust behind the night stands and the floor had dust bunnies. The curtains were dirty. The pool, oh the pool looked like a swamp so we didn't even think about using that. Worst Marriott experience EVER... In my opinion, unless this place is your last option, I'd stay some where else.
Erica, the manager was terrible. The toilet didn’t work and we were not able to switch rooms. The room was absolutely filthy with mold everywhere.
Property is not a Marriott owned property which explains the condition of the hotel.
The tub was so filthy that I refused to take a shower. It might be stained or old but should be replaced.
The curtains were torn.
The tv was screwed down to the furniture.
The towels weren’t the best, could use replacing.
The beds didn’t have skirts just the box springs showing.
The door number was written on a piece of paper on my room and several others.
The hallway needed vacuuming.
Makes me rethink on staying in a Marriott property in the future, especially if it is a franchise! We have a Bonvoy account too!!
Old. In serious need of an upgrade. Not worth the $150 we paid. Room was ok clean. Furnishings fairly beat up. Bare bones amenities. Breakfast: cold "hot" water for tea; coffee also cold, usual complimentary breakfast fare. Ok for 1 night with a very late arrival and too tired to look for anything else. Much farther from highway entrance than we realized. Highway is right next door, on the other side of a fence, so loud traffic all night, but no entrance near the hotel. Staff was nice.
You will regret staying here. Wifi will not connect, read the other reviews! Dirty rooms and absolutely no customer service. Stay somewhere else!
