We chose this hotel for the location. However, it was disgusting inside. The curtains were ripped and stained. When I called the front desk and asked to be moved before unpacking, considering housekeeping and maintenance wouldn't want to come change them at night, they gave a very scripted shock of not knowing and "actually" checked before saying there were no more rooms. The next day, they offered to move us but I told them how inconvenient that would be now, why can't they just change the curtains, like it's not hard. Never heard from them again. The paint job is disgusting too, regardless of how old the hotel is.
Good location for sightseeing but I would not come again. From homeless across the street to constant street noise it was just okay. The parking situation could be improved for guests of hotel. No discount given at garage not belonging to the hotel and the attached garage is a hot mess!
Good for a quick stay but not for a long one
I would give this hotel a zero rating if it were possible. I booked the Pickwick well in advance (early December) of my conference at the Moscone (late February, 2026). I was traveling with my student to attend the conference (we are both females) and I had reserved a room with 2 queen beds to cut costs. 10 days before my conference, the Pickwick informed me that they would have to switch us to a king room due to a "software" issue. !!!!!!! I was quite upset. After two days, they called me and said that they could give me a king room the first night and 2 queen beds the second night (we were sharing for two nights only). That was not good enough so I cancelled my reservation. I found another hotel that cost $140 more so I asked the Pickwick to send me a check for $140. They did not. I chose the Pickwick because it is close to the Moscone, but they treat people very badly. Don't reserve there - they are not trustworthy.
We stayed at the Pickwick hotel during the Super Bowl week, we attended the Pro Bowl at Moscone Center which was only a 5-6 minute walk away. Upon arrival the hotel was clean & front desk staff was welcoming & kind. They got us checked in a few hours early which was perfect after our long drive. Our room was small but obviously expected being in the vibrant city of San Francisco most importantly our room was clean, we had a nice view of the city streets and skyline. The beds were comfortable and we had a mini fridge in the room, no microwave but we didn’t need one for our one night stay. We definitely recommend staying at Pickwick if you are staying in the SOMA area of San Francisco, California
At first glance the hotel is a bit tatty in places and you wonder how things will be. However there are a lot of positives. The location is great with the Powell Street BART station 2 minutes away and a fast, cheap and clean train direct from the airport.
Our room is spacious with flashes of past grandeur, for example marble bathroom. The bed is very comfortable and clean, good quality bedding. There's a fridge and even an iron and board. The air conditioning seemed quiet but we didn't use it much in February. Windows are dirty but secondary glazing is pretty effective at filtering out street noise.
The local area is quite good for a city centre, with several eateries nearby. If you turn left out of the hotel then left at the intersection, there's a large Target store about 200m down the road with supermarket and pharmacy. Cable cars, trams and buses are all close by, as is Union Square. The Westfield centre has now closed but that didn't detract much.
Overall for the price paid the place is good value. We'd stay again.
This is a terrible hotel! The rooms are old, the bathrooms are weirdly laid out and not functional (the shower head is on the long side of the shower, not the short, how are you supposed to stand under it??), the windows might as well not even be there because you can hear every single sound of the city all night long. There is one ice machine for the entire hotel. It is renovated, but in the worse quality way possible with cracks everywhere. The location is good from the standpoint of proximity to the moscone center, but right on the corner it is on is so unbelievably noisy, which is awful as I said since the windows don't do anything for the honking all night, the front door is in a weird spot and doesn't even work, you have to use a tiny side door to enter and exit. The staff is hard to find when you need help and the worst part of the whole thing is the price and the bait and switch tactics. When I booked (directly through their website) it gave me an average nightly price under $200, which was my budget, and then when I checked in they gave me a super high price and told me it was a "refundable deposit" and then after I got my invoice they charged me $661 plus taxes and fees for a SUNDAY night! When I called to ask about the change in price the manager yelled at me and told me I should have caught the change in price before checking out. Excuse me? So ridiculous. Whatever you do, DO NOT STAY HERE! Ever! There are so many better hotels at better prices. This place will swindle you out of your money for a crappy place to stay. Run far away!
A grand old dame. Great hotel. Awesome place to stay! The hotel is in original condition (beautiful art deco) so yes its not top of the line but it is EXCELLENT, clean and good location (walk to everything, Target super centre, restaurants, one mile from ferry wharf). The original fittings (100 year old thick doors and walls) mean its quite sound proof and so that allows for deep sleeps. The bed was extremely comfy and the pillows heavenly. That part of town can get "colourful" at night with shouting on the streets but the hotel security is top notch and staff are low key friendly. San Fran is expensive and this hotel was a great fit for our budget (stayed 7 nights).
I took my daughter for her sweet 16 to see Billie Eilish at the Chase center. The staff were very helpful in giving directions using Muni to and from venue. When we got back, the front desk helped my daughter make Mac and cheese and they were so nice!!!! Rooms are old and need upgrading, but the beds are super comfortable and the staff is excellent!!
Nice stay
The room temperature was hot 🔥
Kinda clean cept for the mold in the bathroom. Says they have breakfast, what they mean is there is a place to buy breakfast down the street. Says the have a bar / lounge, what they mean is there is a bar/ lounge next door open sometimes... Not what i was expecting.
Everything is good.
I like staying at the Pickwick because it is so convienient for the areas that I need to go... right on bus route 14. The cleaning staff were wonderful. The restaurant is good.
Staff is great, room is cheap (budget) condition carpet and paint and quite dated, and a bit noisy. However for a cheap safe place to stay in S.F. it is fine. It is not a honeymoon destination by any stretch. But fine for a business traveler or student on a tight budget.
Great place
The Pickwick Hotel is 3 mins walk to the Cable Car of Powell St and the Bart Station and to many different Bus stops. The hotel is clean and nice lounge area. There is a restaurant in the hotel and many more just a stroll away. If I will go back to SF I will stay in this hotel again.
The floor I stayed on smelled like urine...Someone had urinated in the hallway....One of the elevators was broken for several days....I would not stay at this hotel again.
Staff was very helpful.
Inexpensive cleaning around doors and carpet could have been better.
I did not like it because they charge parking
Super chill and comfortable and easy for the location and price. Marie was a great cleaning person and the staff was hospitable and attentive.
