Geraldine Heritage Hotel

Very old decor. Old sheets. Hotel smelled of cooking oil. I bit more attention to cleaning would have been good, e.g. the exeplair duct in the bathroom was thick with grime. For this level of room I would have expected to pay $60 - $85, not $105.

Web site is totally out of date. Tried to book online twice, unsuccessful. Tried emailing with booking, only to get a ‘thank you for your email’ response. Tried phoning, no joy.
Because the site and comments seemed ‘Heritage’ persevered and booked Xpedia.
The hotel is rundown and tired but has the potential to be a great stopping off point enroute to the bike trails and points south.
Needs to lift their game with overseas tourism picking up

Hotel was cold and unfriendly. Limited pillows and blankets with no heating. No bar or restaurant. Very unloved building for a Heritage listed building in bad need of a lot of TLC

Das Einzelzimmer war für knapp 20Euro in Ordnung. Bett, Fenster, TV... Fertig. Küche hat nur eine Mikrowelle und Wasserkocher, dafür wird aber Instantkaffe und Tee bereitgestellt.

Leider wurde Zimmer und allgemeine Räume unzureichend oder seit längeren nicht geputzt und gestaubsaugt. Überall Staub und Dreck. Das Bett war sauber. Bad ging auch, aber keine Seife vorhanden.

Three times my food was stolen from the fridge. Not funny when working night shift and get in at 1am expecting to have a warm feed before bed only to find someone had already eaten it dispite having clearly labeled it. Nothing open in Geraldine at that hour!!

I recommend this traditional country pub. Lovely spacious room. Great bathroom. Friendly staff. Views. Shared balcony. Shared kitchen.
I suggest you phone to confirm last minute bookings as the room I booked had been let between booking and when I got there.

No hot water in shower

You definitely get what you pay for here. I went for the cheapest option in their backpacker/hostel selection and ended up staying in a small building out the back, rather than in the main hotel. It was a bit dirty/dusty and I had to sweep the floor myself, but it was a safe place to stay with a lock, comfy bed, and basic utilities. The pub next door was very rowdy at night though. I also didn't interact with staff at all except for when I arrived, which was a little confusing since I didn't know the pub was also the check-in desk. Overall it was fine but I probably wouldn't stay again, not even for the price of being the cheapest room in Geraldine.

good price for quick stopover. Accessible room/shower for my son was helpful checkin good. Not very clean, fridge dirty, dusty shelves etc. No plug on shelf for appliances. No ventilation. Window would have opened a little above the main street.

No food available

I guess for what we paid it was ok. Typical old style pub accom. Rooms very basic. Jug didn’t work, was replaced. Bathroom could have been cleaner, dust on skirt boards, fan made awful noise, No iron, only saying this as we travelled for a wedding. Asked for a receipt at end and fella didn’t seem to know what I was talking about. Got there in the end.

Pretty vulgar manager. He wanted to charge us twice because he couldn't find the booking we made through hotels.com. The guy was vulgar with us, swearing and blaming the platform, complaining he didn't receive any money out of it, despite I was showing him the booking and the charges on our bank account. Worse customer experience ever.

The booking was messed up when lastminute.co.nz didn't forward the payment to the hotel for the booking, which meant I had to pay again when I arrived. It then took me an hour on the phone being passed from person to person on an overseas call centre run by lastminute.co.nz to try to get a refund for the double payment but they told me they don't give refunds, only credits. So now I have a credit. It was made worse because the hotel staff then told lastminute.co.nz that I was a 'no show' at the hotel, even though I had already checked in to my accomodation with them, ie some staff knew what was going on and others didn't, but didn't check their facts. Apart from that, the room was fine, clean etc and I think good value for money for a very basic bed-for-the-night.
