Clayton is losing its character. Starting to become a corporate wasteland.
Very good quality and layout of our room. Nice size. Bathroom spacious and high sink!
Staff was excellent and the court yard was a wonderful place to sit and have a glass of wine. The upscale bathroom is off the charts!
It was my daughter’s bachelorette weekend so we decided to go stay the weekend and do other things in the area. I pre-paid for a two night stay. The first night we arrived, We were told we were on the third floor and the elevator was out so we had to carry everything up three flights of stairs. The stairs are like something you would see in an old home, steep and winding. So we carried our luggage at three flights of stairs. We get into our room by this time we’re getting ready for bed. We go to brush our teeth and the sink will not drain. I called down to the front desk to let them know and they said we’ll have to wait till tomorrow until we have a maintenance person here we don’t have our own on staff so we have to call somebody. So we manage with the shower water to brush our teeth and remove our make up. The next morning we get up to get ready and we cannot get out of our room. The lock was stuck on the door to our room . I called down to the front desk to let them know that we could not get out of the room which is a huge fire hazard being on the third floor or any floor for that matter. The response I got was we already know about the sink and we have maintenance on the way will let them know about the door. At this point, I lost my cool and said that is not acceptable. I have places to be and this is a safety issue. I was not given a timeframe of when that would be or anything at this point I’m pulling on the door in a panic trying to get out of the room. Finally, got the door to open. I went downstairs and told them I would not be staying another night. They tried to talk me into staying and I just said no I wanted to refund prepaid for the second night and I wasn’t gonna stay there anymore. I was told it would be a week or so, but it would all get sorted out, I was refunded for the night that I didn’t stay but was not getting any compensation for the night that I spent there with all the issues . I was not impressed and will never return.
Very quiet. Moved to the first floor. Room very nice. Elevator was out.
This hotel gave us a lovely experience as we wound up our cross country honeymoon trip. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. The room was great and there was an inner courtyard that was perfect for sipping coffee in the morning. We will stay there whenever we return to St. Louis.
Great staff, amazing design and decor. The layout is a blend of modern and old European with a amazing corner stair case that sets in the feeling. Great spacious courtyard with plenty of seating with a nice quiet home like feel.
I booked the suite in the hotel because we had 3 family members in 1 room. There was a king bed + a sofa bed. (the 17 line)
When we left the hotel early evening I asked Savannah at the front desk to please have housekeeping make up the sofa bed. We returned hours later to discover housekeeping had merely put the linens next to the couch-I guess making up the bed was too difficult.
We opened up the sofa bed, it was a very thin mattress that didn't look very clean. Plus, while looking for an outlet for the lamp on one side of the king bed (there wasn't one anywhere accessible) we also noticed how many layers of dust were on the box spring-right below where our heads would be. Kind of icky. And I'm allergic to dust mites.
Savannah was kind enough to move us to a new room with 2 queen beds (315) which was spacious, clean and nice.
I do appreciate her and Lances's help in trying to make things right.
The hotel is kind of funky in a good way, a great location in Clayton and close to many things. Plus it has a private parking area just across the street from the hotel.
I would consider staying there again, just not in the suite.
Fantastic property in Old St Louis. Walkable village feeling with cafes, bakery & Vintage/Antique Watch Shop next door. :15 min drive from the airport with huge high tech rooms.
Stayed here several times, staff is great. Perfect location, even the food is good. Rooms are outstanding and clean. Beds are comfortable, bathrooms are huge and love the charm. Did I mention the location, very central to lots of restaurants! Love the charm! Will stay here again!
Great room! Upgraded and bidet toilet!
Slow check in , only one staff working and not very helpful for lost and found.
The old building, which might have once possessed some charm, now feels tired. The entryway is peculiar; you step into a narrow hallway where the "desk" is merely a cubby in the wall, resembling a hostess station. The restaurant always plays loud music, reminiscent of a boardwalk atmosphere, yet it is almost always empty. Overall, it has an outdated and disheartening vibe.
Our room was acceptable, with comfortable beds, but it was quite dark, and the fluorescent lighting did little to enhance the ambiance. We didn’t see much value in the “fancy” toilet that had a heated seat and a bidet function, or in the embedded TV in the mirror. The contrast between these upscale features and the plastic cups wrapped in bags felt off. Additionally, I had the impression that the room was somewhat dirty throughout our stay, as I noticed visible dirt along the floorboards, which may or may not have been there before we arrived.
I was very disappointed, as this is a Marriott property, and I have stayed at many of their properties. The location was fantastic and easy to get to and the outside of the building is truly beautiful. Inside, the hotel looked to be in disrepair, which a crying shame, as this is an historic hotel. The check- in area felt like a dormitory, the room that served coffee did not have pleasing furniture or layout and was not at all welcoming and there was very limited and run down furniture in what could have been a beautiful outdoor courtyard. Is Marriott aware of how awful the property looks? It could be a real jewel. So sad!
The hotel has is nice and quiet.
It’s kind of hard for me to even believe this is a Marriott hotel.
The bed was sunken in the middle.
There was residue on the floor of the bathroom and on the mini bar. The floor was sticky. Half the lightbulbs in the room didn’t work. The breakfast was one rock hard bagel, a rock hard English muffin or cereal.
And honestly, it just felt cheaply remodeled to the point where I had to check the photos online to see if I was just misremembering what I booked!
Skip it. I would not stay here again.
Cute building, bed is comfortable.
Poor, unusable wifi. Hot water keeps running out and shower layout is very awkward and difficult to use if you are short.
it’s a super cute, bed & breakfast kind of feel
my biggest complaint would be that our door did not lock. although, you obviously have to have a key card to enter, we feel safer with the door locked from the inside as well. unfortunately, for some reason our lock would not allow us to lock it from the inside when the door was closed. if we opened the door & tested the lock, it popped out like it should. when the door is shut, the lock would just bounce back to being unlocked & would not stay locked. this made us feel a little uneasy.
we brought our own fire stick to hook up but the tv would only allow regular tv to play which was kind of annoying but obviously not the biggest issue, just wanted to throw in that in.
