Location is their forte here. There were a lot of things to do and places to see within walking distance for the 1 night 2 days we had in Liverpool. We checked in, left our bags, and explored the city by foot.
The double room we stayed in is dated but clean. It was a decent size room but probably not much if you have huge luggages (we had 2 backpacks).
They had lemon water in the hallway which was great as the weather was particularly hot when we arrived.
The breakfast was standard: a selection of hot food - sausages, bacon, mushrooms, scrambled/fried egg (no poached), beans, white pudding, white/brown toast; mini croissants, pain au chocolat, apple/orange juice, tea/coffee, cereals, fruits.
When we checked out, we were able to leave our backpacks in their luggage room which was spacious.
The hotel is old but you can sense how opulent it used to be seeing the grand room in the middle and reading the info by the elevators and also online. I do like the history of it and it would be lovely to see this hotel hopefully get back to its peak some time in the future.
The weather being 35deg.C and only having a fan in the room, you could imagine did not yield to a comfortable sleep.
The bed was soft so might be an issue if you’re used to firm beds like us.
Lovely hotel, friendly, helpful staff.

Staff are fantastic and other customers in the wave bar are really friendly.
Food was uneatable and expensive.
Good location, very close to Lime Street station and the city overall. The hotel offered secure luggage storage before and after our stay and the reception staff were very helpful and accommodating. The cost was reasonable compared to other hotels for the dates we went, but not reasonable for the standard of the room and restaurant.
The was newish carpet in the room and the bathroom had been modernised. There was a decent hairdryer in the room.
Extremely dated hotel. In its heyday this would have been a very grand hotel but it needs a LOT of work to bring it into the 21st century. We arrived in a heatwave and there was no air con in the room and the windows didn’t open. The room was unbearably hot and stuffy. The large, old radiator in the bathroom was very hot and we were told this was servicing the hot water for the hotel so couldn’t be turned off. We had two fans plugged in when we arrived. However, there were only 4 plug sockets for the whole family suite so we had to keep swapping what was on charge/in use. The wardrobes looked original and smelt musty and old. We didn’t use them.
The room had two double beds and a single and we were a party of three but there was only two sets of towels and two cups for coffee/tea. The lid of the kettle was broken too. There was a self closing fire door but it was old and didn’t fit the frame property so any fire would have got straight through it. On the landing all the fire doors were pushed open for the whole of our stay.
When we arrived for breakfast there were no clean tables and empty plates etc were on every table. It took the staff a while to clear and clean two tables for us and we were made to feel like an inconvenience.
