Nice spacious rooms, wonderful style and and an easy-going atmosphere
Breakfast could have more healthy options and breakfast staff could be more attentive
Hotel was well kept. Staff very friendly and helpful
Shower was not great. The shower head did not have good coverage. Temp control difficult.
I don’t know why there are so many reviews singing the praises of this hotel. It’s fine, but it’s not luxury and it’s not family friendly. Sure, families can stay there and they have an offering of a breast milk fridge which seems random considering they don’t offer even basics for families, but that’s as far as it goes.
There is no children’s menu in the restaurant or room service, and very little / next to nothing that young children could eat from the main menu - and the desserts (all 3 of them) are only suitable for adults or teenage children (not even the option for just ice cream).
I’m used to children’s toiletries in bathrooms at truly family-friendly hotels. Nothing at the Kimpton.
I requested a cot for my 1 year old when booking - arrived to find no cot, so had to call down (obviously resolvable but annoying). And my daughter absolutely detested the cot - we stay in hotels across the world frequently and we’ve never had a problem before. This cot was small and metal? So whenever she’d roll and touch the metal in the night, she’d wake as it was cold and loud to the touch (and it looked like a tiny prison). She usually wakes once a night - she woke double figure times at the Kimpton. And the mattress was the kind that makes a rustling noise every time she moved, which also woke her (these may sound minor, but I’ve honestly never had this problem before and it resulted in the worst sleep for us all, which isn’t what you want from a “luxury, family-friendly” hotel).
Next up, upon entering the room and finding no cot, I also discovered the bins hadn’t been emptied from the previous occupants! Again, never experienced this before and was v surprised. It made me pay attention to the cleanliness of the room and it was not great. There were black hairs around the sink and on the bathroom floor, and fingerprints on the mirror. I had called the reception to ask for the missing cot and told them the bins had not been emptied - when housekeeping came, the lady seemed surprised that I’d want the bin emptied? No apology, or anything like that. It was bizarre. Also, the bed cushions were on the floor and the screw in plug was just left in the bath. It looked like our room hadn’t finished being serviced (and there was no turndown service).
And the in-room coffee and tea is awful - there are only paper cups (bad for the environment, and not luxury) and the minibar was empty where I’d expect chilled water and fresh milk. Oh, and not a biscuit (cookie) to be found - you even get this in budget hotels?
The decor and furniture in the room is dated, worn down, and needs a refresh (we stayed in 1 bed suite).
So yes, overall I’m pretty unimpressed and most definitely wouldn’t return (full stop, but definitely not as a family with young children).
Great location, excellent amenities and fantastic staff. The room was beautiful, the staff are friendly and immediately responsive, the food at the Fortunate Fox is wonderful, and I really enjoyed the coffee and muffins available in the mornings, and the complimentary wine offered during Happy Hour. Parking is on site with in and out privileges. I will definitely stay here again!
I don’t have anything negative to say about my experience at this property.
Pub downstairs was great, good food too, great staff in pub.
Only one roll of toilet paper was in our bathroom on arrival.Night shift at front desk was not good; I asked in person for a roll of toilet paper about 11 pm and was told by front desk clerk that he would bring it up to our room.He never brought the toilet paper to our room.
Also mattress was way to soft .
We ordered the breakfast for the first time slot 8-8:30 as we planned to be out at 9:15. At 8:35 when we called down we were told " it was coming" it arrived at 8:45. Cold, and disappointing on timing.
