La Paris Estate

This review only covers their bakery/deli...

When you pass the Nelson Mandela Statue in front of the NM Drakenstein Prison you may consider a stop at La Paris Estate Bakery (for a coffee break) or Bistro (for breakfast or lunch). That's what we did on our way to Franschhoek...

La Paris Estate is obviously a nice boutique hotel but (quite regrettably) we had no need for accommodation. We just longed for freshly brewed coffee and some pastries... And although the bakery with its impressive selection of bread and other baked goods seems to focus on take-away customers they had a few tables on the herb garden terrace. Such a serene atmosphere, nice service and top quality coffee and cake...

We also had a short look at the bistro. It looked stylish and inviting with an interesting menu and if it had been the right time for us we most certainly would have had lunch there... Next time: hotel and bistro!

We had a wonderful 3 nights stay. Beautiful surroundings and a lovely setting at the restaurant to enjoy a delicious breakfast. Our room was large with a lovely bathroom. It was quiet and cool so barely needed to use the AC. But what made it such a wonderful place to stay were the amazing staff, who were so friendly and helpful they truly made our stay very special. Can’t wait to stay again.

We were made to feel very special when we arrived by the front of house host, Ashleen.
Our room was wonderful - very clean/peaceful/tucked away!
The styling of this resort is perfect - minimal meets industrial and the decor of the rooms was very contemporary. We dined in the restaurant on the first night and met the most wonderful waitress, YOLANDA who was so warm and engaging - she really was the best part about our stay here! We were greeted personally by YOLANDA again for breakfast the following morning which added a really personal touch to our stay. She is genuinely interested in the customer and offered an exceptional standard of customer service!
It was however very disappointing to learn that the restaurant is not open every night. The location of this estate is SO remote that it seems crazy that you would not offer catering on site every day. We were +25mins drive (at least) outside of Franschhoek and transport was expensive. I would expect you to offer a complimentary shuttle service to and from the town to make staying here more attractive. The quality of the food and service in the restaurant when it was open was exceptional! We had one wonderful evening meal and two great breakfasts but we cannot forgive the restaurant not being open on a Saturday evening. This seems crazy and I question the business decision behind this - forcing your guests OUT when surely you should be encouraging them to eat IN, on site. Unless this changes, we would seriously have to consider returning. Overall, the estate has tremendous potential - a lot of which is not being explored! There is so much wasted space that could easily be turned into more accommodation which would in turn give you the covers for opening your restaurant - it’s a no brainer!

The location is stunning and the rooms are spacious, private and tastefully designed. We loved it!

The staff were incredibly welcoming and the hotel was very tranquil and relaxing. It served as a great base to do everything we wanted to do in the area. We will definitely be back!

La Paris Estate was a lovely place to base our Winelands visit from. The staff we came in contact with was above and beyond the most friendly and helpful of any we encountered on our trip. From our check in with Grant and Duran, to our meals with Lovemore and Antoine, we couldn't have asked for anything more. Grant went so far out of his way to be helpful, driving us into town for dinner and my husband to and from golf...he was the best! The rooms are nice, could maybe use a little more scrubbing, but overall I would stay here again with no hesitation. And the food at La Paris Bistro was some of my favorite of the trip. Great place to stay!

I was an assistant to a guest who was attending a wedding at the beginning of September 2022. After a long drive, what pleasure to arrive at such beautiful and tranquil accomodation.
Our every need was attended to in a most professional and friendly manner. The staff were just wonderful.
The food at the Bistro was excellent.
Our accomodation was so comfortable and attractive. Everything we needed, and more, was offered to us.
I loved some of the original doors, stoves and architecture.
Due to business needs I was not able to explore Franschoek however I hope to return to do so.

Sit outside under the large trees to listen to nature and absorb the tranquility.

In winter- inside has warm wooden floors - and a very warm fireplace.

Oh yes - also a good wine cellar is available.
