This is the only place to go for breakfast in Newcastle. They have very friendly walk ins for guests not lucky enough to stay at the hotel.
I’ve been a few times now and have had consistently good food and service.
The restaurant is very smart with an extensive selection of hot food and an equally extensive selection of fruit and pastries which is constantly replenished.
You can have breakfast at whatever speed you need, always starting the day in a positive way.
You really cannot beat it! I’ll certainly come back and recommend it to my friends.
Thanks to Michael, Lorraine and Mandy for being so welcoming today.
We had a wonderful stay at the Royal Station Hotel, had a small issue with our room but was quickly resolved by the gentleman on reception called Josh , he even helped with the transfer of our luggage to our room, Josh is a asset to your team, we had booked for breakfast for the whole of our midweek break and was greeted by Michael, he was just what you need to brighten your mood so helpful nothing was too much trouble for him or his staff, Michael and Lorraine even gave us some great information on where to go during our stay as unfortunately the weather was rather bad, but the Newcastle/geordie welcome was amazing and we can’t wait to come back!! Thanks again Josh Michael and Lorraine from the Parkers and Baldwins x
We booked ahead, as we had a concert at the arena and it was a great price when compared to other hotels. It is literally next door to the train station and only 15 minute walk to the arena. The reception staff were so friendly and helpful. Our room was on the cosy side, size wise but was perfectly adequate. Loved having a mini fridge. The room was clean and well presented. We both slept really well, it is unusual for me as I don't sleep well out of my own bed. Outside noise didn't wake us up but it was noticeable as others have mentioned. Definitely would stay again if we come to Newcastle. My only gripes were no hair dryer and no towel radiator in the bathroom, it was slightly chilly in there. But the shower was great.
Great deal from Groupon food was lovely and staff and service was great
Only 1 thing I would say that I was put off by is that it was Announced in front of my company and the rest of the bar that I was using a Groupon voucher .
This trip out was for my dads birthday so I was a bit put out by this, surely the staff have another way of discreetly asking for the bar code 🤷🏻♀️
Apart from that we had a great time and Michael made up for the “announcement” with the rest of our visit being very well served
I would definitely recommend here.
After years of look-alike business hotels, this is a rare treat. There's a touch of old-world glamour enhanced by excellent service (particular thanks to Keira and Michael) and an unbeatable location. Highly recommended.
We've stayed at the Royal Station Hotel on many occasions as we love it's slightly faded grandeur, excellent city centre location, affordability and leisure facilities which until recently were included as part of your stay. Now however now they charge you an addition fee, which considering how dilapidated they're becoming is a bit of a cheek. On our most recent visit the jacuzzi was tepid, the bubbles could only be turned on by blowing into a tube (no thank you!), there were missing tiles, one of the seats in the steam room was held together with gaffa-tape and the whole place felt manky and run down. You 'might' be more forgiving if it was included with your room, but when being asked to fork out extra for the privilege, you have to ask yourself what exactly is that fee is going on, as it certainly isn't the maintenance and upkeep of the facilities!
Anyway, as a result I don't think we'll be back unless they give the leisure facilities a long overdue makeover, and re-include them with the room.
Hotel itself - absolutely stunning reception area but that is all. The rooms are dated and the noise level every morning and night is very loud. We stayed for 3 nights/4 days and did not get our roomed cleaned once! Had to ask for clean towels. When we arrived it was early and we asked could we leave our luggage this was 1 pound per luggage. We then went to breakfast in the hotel, it was cold and very dry not worth the money. We were told at reception to check in early would be 10 pound extra per hour so for example if we checked in at 11am it would cost 40 pound as check in time is 3pm.. we checked in at 1pm we were so tired so we paid 20 pound. At night there is beggars hanging around the front of the hotel which can make one very uneasy
Pool- we had to pay 5 pound each for the pool facilities. It was such a waste. The pool is across the road which is fine however you have to go upstairs to change to come back down to use the pool which I thought was very dangerous.
Location- the location is very central and right next to the central train station. Plenty of restaurants and bars around.
Experience - it was our first time attending Newcastle and I was so disappointed with all the extra costs for everything. Would I attend this hotel again? Absolutely not it’s not somewhere I would recommend for a few nights stay at most maybe 1 night just to lay your head.. the pictures on websites are very deceiving as the place is so run down
Location is 10/10 A well placed hotel. Good check in. We booked a superior room which was on 2nd floor. Everything you need.
Fab location.lovely room.
Staff friendly.Special shout out To Michael,Lorraine and Mandy who greeted us each morning with such hospitality.5 * to these guys
The lobby/ reception area is beautiful! However, this style and decoration does not extend to the rooms.
The room I stayed in what felt like the spare room in the attic or the maids quarters.
It wasn't decorated at all, not a picture on the wall or decorative bedding. Just plain and boring. Not a strip of colour anywhere.
The bed frame also didn't touch the wall at the top of the bed, so for the mattress to touch the wall it then wasn't on the last 5 inches of bed frame. Also there was no plugs by the bed, which isn't that big of a deal but still not ideal.
You could also hear everything that was happening on the other sides of the walls.
Honestly not impressed at all, when I could've paid less for a much nicer room in a premier inn for example.
Don't waste your money.
Perfect location for 4 of us meeting up for a catch up, short walk from the station. We stayed in a family room as we wanted to be together, it had everything, a separate shower and bath so had the choice, plenty of glasses, tea, coffee biscuits all complimentary and even a fridge which included complimentary bottles of water. Very impressed as most places I've stayed charge extra. The price of the room was an excellent rate, we will definitely be returning. The staff were helpful and friendly especially Michael & Lewis in the dining area/bar. Nothing was too much trouble and they both exceeded our expectations for service, taking time to chat and have a laugh, excellent. We had a light lunch on day 1 and breakfast next morning both nice and good value, especially enjoyed breakfast, greeted and service with a smile, again by Michael & Lewis. Well done everyone for making our stay relaxing. If I had one little niggle, it could do with a lounge area instead of us having to take up tables in the bar.
We booked because of the location and read some reviews. We we welcomed at the reception from a nice guy behind the desk. He check us in but the sales pitch about extras is a bit much let the customer decide don’t push it down their throat.
The entrance was once very grand but is in need of a refurbishment and the same applies to the room we had. The room window rattled and a cold draft blowing into the room so much we had to lay towels on the window still to stop the cold draft.
The room decor is very dated and not in the best condition the bath room was quite modern but the plug in the stink didn’t fit. The bath tap didn’t work unless pull out.
For an hotel like this our stay was very disappointing we did expect more and the car parking prices are very very high.
There’s better option in Newcastle city centre Shop around use this place as a last resort.
This is my third stay in the hotel the location is perfect it has a great atmosphere. The staff are very helpful and friendly and a special mention to Micheal and Mandy in the restaurant for the excellent service.
Great location. Lovely hotel and very friendly staff. Special mention to Michael and Mandy in the restaurant for their very friendly welcome and excellent customer service. We will be back!
Comfortable, warm, edible food and great staff. But OMG the noise! Screeching rails from the railway -- not just a little bit but going on and on and on and on (and on and on and on). Rattling sash windows in the wind, just can't stop it. Not worth the amount paid by any stretch, plenty of hotels within 5-10min walk, will try one of them next time.
Had Geordie afternoon tea. Was excellent. Michael the waiter was attentive and we felt pampered.
Very good experience over the holiday season, room was good but needed some new net curtains! Staff are great, particularly Michael, who is super professional and friendly. Also Zoe (Sophie?) on reception, Lorraine and Mandy. Thanks!
Would like to thank all thd staff for a lovely stay from start to finish the reception staff and especially the breakfastbyesm of Lorraine,Mandy Michael and Steve going the extra mile heres to my next visit
Regards
Katie Ramsay
We were here for some interviews from Mitie, Steve and Michael were behind the bar and they gave a very personable service. They were very approachable and quick, the tea was excellent. Thank you :)
Stayed for a one night birthday celebration. The hotel is a lovely Victorian building right next to the train station.
We stayed in a double room which was very clean and comfortable but slightly tired.
The staff were all extremely friendly and courteous we had a lovely breakfast, special thanks to Michael and the breakfast team for the wonderful service.
