Needs Serious Renovation
Pros:

Photos on La Mirande’s website depict richly colorful rooms and public spaces loaded with charm. But the reality we experienced bore little resemblance to these photos, leading us to wonder whether the shots had been taken decades ago or had been photoshopped.

Evidence of neglect was everywhere. Our suite (ironically the hotel’s most expensive unit) featured an upholstered chair with a broken “sink-hole” seat, badly stained furniture, and faded threadbare rugs. The room's odd odor was noticed by a staff member who was there to fix the electricity. Even in the dining rooms, wall coverings were stained and peeling in places.

In short, the hotel was so dispiriting that we spent as little time there as possible.

Would not return. Staff really make a stay at a hotel memorable and this didn’t delivery.
Pros:

The location was exceptional.

Cons:

My husband and I both found the staff incredibly unwelcoming and rude throughout our stay, mainly the reception staff and bar staff. However, the porter was very helpful. Our room lacked the 5star pricetag with broken lampshades and old wobbly furniture. The towels and bath robes lacked softness and comfort.

The location is great, the staff are very attentive and helpful. We love the room, very lovely and clean.
Pros:

Everything but the bistro

Cons:

The bistro menu was shocking. Very limited choices and the quality of foods were just ok. Whilst the hotel has Michelin star restaurant and overly salon de the, we didn’t think the bistro would be this low quality.

A special place
Pros:

This is an amazing hotel inside the old city with the Popes' Palace just across the street. We were picked up at the train station by the hotel car and the trip to the hotel was short. We stayed in a Deluxe Room for one night before our river cruise. The room was distinctive in style and full of charm.

They say staying at this hotel is like taking a journey through time and it truly was. Overall, the service was wonderful. We had dinner at their Michelin Star restaurant. The ambience in the courtyard was lovely and the food was outstanding.

Although our visit was short, this is a special place and we enjoyed it very much.

Good but could be better
Pros:

My visit was the first stop on our honeymoon. The front desk team and bell staff were outstanding throughout our stay. They were welcoming, attentive, and consistently provided excellent service.

The room itself was comfortable, though a few details seemed inconsistent with a hotel of this caliber. For example, there were no coffee cups provided, only small water glasses. Additionally, when I requested a corkscrew, I was informed that one could not be sent to the room and that a restaurant staff member would need to come personally to open the bottle. I was surprised to learn that corkscrews were not generally available to staff and that many relied on their own personal tools. These are relatively small matters, but they stood out given the property’s reputation and standards.

The hotel’s location is excellent and highly walkable, making it a convenient base for exploring the area.

Dinner at the bistro was somewhat disappointing. Our main courses arrived before we had finished our cocktails and starter. We asked that the meals be held until we were ready, but by the time they were served, the food had become cold and dry, which negatively affected the experience. In addition, empty dishes were not cleared to make room for subsequent courses. We ultimately had to move used plates, glassware, and wine bottles ourselves to the short stone wall next to our table. This did not seem to concern the staff, who left the items there until we specifically asked for them to be removed.

As an additional note, we visited Bibiche based on the hotel’s recommendation and unfortunately did not have a positive experience. We were initially seated at one of the only two-person outdoor tables, both of which were positioned on extremely uneven surfaces that felt unsafe. When we requested to move indoors, the reception was noticeably less welcoming. I ordered veal medallions and was served what appeared to be the end cuts of the tenderloin. The meat was overcooked, dry, and tough, while several neighboring tables received noticeably more appealing center-cut portions. Whether this was simply coincidence or not, it left an unfavorable impression.

Overall, the exceptional service provided by the front desk and bell staff was the highlight of our stay, though several operational and dining issues fell short of expectations.

Sehr nettes und kompetentes Personal in allen Bereichen. Gut organisiert. Zentralste Lage mit schönem Garten. Hervorragende Küche und ein Frühstücks-Buffet das gar keine Wünsche offen lässt: so muss es wohl im Paradies sein.

Cons:

Nice Hotel, Great Staff
Pros:

This is a very nice hotel. It is as centrally located as can be in the city of Avignon. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We had some issues with our room, but the general manager got involved and addressed the problem and took care of us. One suggestion, if you are driving, its best to get specific directions on getting to the hotel. This involves a number of small, very tight roads, as well as needing to get out and call the hotel along the way to have them lower bollards in the road and allow you to actually get through to the hotel. They were also very helpful in getting dining reservations in advance.

Fantastic elegance!
Pros:

Hotel La Mirande is truly one the best Hotel experiences I have ever had. The staff is lovely and very professional but not stuffy. The location is fantastic. You walk out the front door and there is the Papal Palace. The bar is so cool. The history of this Hotel is dramatic and fascinating. The food is incredible. Every morning we were met with our capancino and our eggs any way we wanted them and a table of delicious delights. We did the Chef's Table dinner and I would absolutely recommend this, it is a MUST. Our room was wonderful, spacious, clean and the bathroom was quite large. The gardens are beautiful. I would love to stay here again!
