Nothing
After spending one unforgettable night at Grand Wailea, I wasn't about to spend another small fortune on accommodations that would mostly be enjoyed after dark.
Instead, I checked out, took full advantage of Grand Wailea's hospitality area one last time, enjoyed a couple of margaritas during happy hour at Gather overlooking the Wailea Golf Course, and then drove about ten minutes north to the Days Inn in Kihei.
Judging by my outfit, I may have been the most overdressed guest ever to check into a Days Inn.
And honestly... I couldn't have been happier.
Grand Wailea felt like spending a day in a palace. It was spectacular. But after all the grandeur, there was something surprisingly comforting about arriving somewhere that simply felt... like home. No valet parking. No maze of elevators and winding pathways. No resort fees. Just friendly staff, a clean room, and a comfortable place to call home for the next couple of days.
My room had clearly been updated in recent years. The modern flooring, fresh furnishings, crisp white bedding, and spotless condition made an excellent first impression. It wasn't luxurious—and it wasn't trying to be. The bed was comfortable, the air conditioning worked well, Wi-Fi was reliable, and after two busy weeks exploring Hawaiʻi, it had everything I actually needed.
What really makes this hotel stand out is its location.
Keawakapu Beach—one of Maui's most beautiful beaches—is only a short walk away, and Wailea's resorts, restaurants, shopping, and golf courses are just a few minutes by car. Kihei's excellent beaches, cafés, food trucks, snorkeling spots, and local restaurants are equally convenient. It's hard to imagine a better location for travelers who plan to spend their days exploring the island instead of spending all of them at the resort.
That's exactly how I used this hotel. Every dollar I saved on accommodations became another dollar I could spend experiencing Maui.
A couple of things to keep in mind: this is still a budget hotel. The rooms aren't especially large, and you won't find sprawling tropical grounds, multiple pools, or luxury amenities. One practical note: some reviewers mention thinner walls. Let's just say it's worth remembering that you're sharing the building with other travelers. If you're looking for a full luxury resort experience, Wailea's resorts are waiting... along with the matching room rates.
But if your priorities are a clean, updated room, an outstanding location, and excellent value, this Days Inn checks all the right boxes.
Would I stay at Grand Wailea again? Absolutely.
Would I spend an entire week there? Probably not.
Would I happily repeat this exact strategy—splurge on one unforgettable night, then move here and use the savings to experience more of Maui?
Without hesitation.
One final observation: after a successful evening at a nearby bar, I found myself appreciating that this wasn't one of those enormous resorts where every return to your room feels like you're making a grand entrance. Sometimes a little privacy is an underrated amenity.
Four stars. A comfortable, well-maintained hotel in one of the best locations on the island, and proof that sometimes the smartest travel memories come from knowing when to splurge... and when to simply feel at home.
An unexpected beachfront gem! The room, though small, was clean and pretty with a small fridge and microwave. The grounds are lush, lovely and well-kept, and the adjacent beach is beautiful. It’s a nice stay at a more affordable price point. I would absolutely return for another stay.
Todo bien en general. La playa de en frente muy bonita.
El staff en general bien, pero la recepcionista un poco déspota.
Got to be the best located days Inn on the planet. Beachfront property, not a super crowded beach, chairs and towels provided in the rooms at no extra cost. Can’t beat that. Oh, and there’s a pretty good general store next-door at the Resort next-door. They’ve even got spam musubi and a whole menu to choose from.
Nothing. It was fantastic
la habitación y la amabilidad del personal
qué todas las opciones de desayuno eran dulces.
Got to be the best located days inn on the planet. Beach access was great, beach chairs supplied in your room, and sunset on the beach was magical
This property has the same access to the beach in front of mana Kai Maui .
The room is small but value for money
Staff is extremely friendly and helpful
Wish it had a pool
Good location close to the sea
Entry to the sea was not mentained
Great hotel near the beach... perfect for short stay. Very usefull beach gear, comfortable stay.... breakfast was as Continental but ok
Location and staff
Very small room, but clean
Being a short walk to the ocean was very nice.
I paid for and reserved a room with balcony and sea view. My view was of another part of the complex and no balcony as the room described. I even paid for that particular room. I went to front desk and her alternative room was the same except ground floor and during the day you could see a slight sea view through the foliage. I accepted that room only because we had just got off a 14 hr flight and time change difference was actually 3 am my time.
It was very close to the pretties beach.
I honesty have no complaints.
It was a great trip, definitely worth it
