Wonderful old hotel with lovely staff
Pros:

The central position near the cathedral, the history of the very old hotel

Cons:

Some of the building was quite run down. The carpet in our room had several stains and the ceiling was blotchy - needed a coat of paint.

Disappointing
Pros:

Liked history , ambience & location.

Cons:

I had single room in old part of hotel which involved me carrying my suitcase through winding route, doors & staircases. I am pensioner but no one offered help with my case even when I asked about lift . None. In morning I was told they could have helped me. Too late. Room description was inaccurate it did not have desk or work area. In fact room was so small there was barely any space to put my things. Obstacle course to get from bed to bathroom. Chair or waste bin blocking clear access. Bathroom was decent size but not even small space to put my toiletries. Door to bathroom opened outwards on a step so one had to balance on edge to get in. It was impossible to sit on wc normally as double toilet roll holder placed incorrectly. As I paid £150 for 1 night excl breakfast I thought accommodation was extremely poor value for money .I do wish hotel designers stayed in rooms they create. Good looks are not enough!

Lovely historic hotel in a great location!
Pros:

Food was delicious and we were upgraded to a room with a free standing bath, which was a treat . The location is brilliant, right by the cathedral and it is a beautiful old building with lovely staff!

Cons:

Our room was at the front of the hotel with large windows in the bedroom and bathroom, overlooking the street. However, these had plain glass in them and meant that we had to keep the blackout curtains shut and the lights on all the time we were in the room. I was always worried about the curtains parting when in the bathroom, resulting in a quick flash to the poor people outside! This could probably be remedied by some blinds on those windows!
Also, people need to be aware that due to the buildings age, there are quite a few steps to negotiate inside!
