This was our second visit to The Maids Head Hotel, unfortunately not acknowledged on arrival. which would have been a nice touch. However, the gentleman who checked us in was friendly and professional. The hotel is lovely with many comfortable areas to sit and relax. We were provided with 2 bottles of water in the room, one still and one sparkling - we only wanted still water and spoke to housekeeping who very quickly provided us with 2 still bottles of water. This was remembered when the room was serviced the second day of our stay. We have found recently that housekeeping often lets hotels down, but most certainly not in this case. We had a drink in the comfortable bar on one night. The barman was extremely helpful and very friendly. There was a large selection of gins which he kindly went through explaining all the various flavours available. When we checked out the receptionist was very friendly and asked us if we had had a good stay and we assured her that we had enjoyed our visit.
The breakfast provided had an excellent choice, but unfortunately the service wasn't quite up to the same level, although the staff at breakfast were friendly. On the second morning, we had to call someone to order our coffee. When it arrived, the cafetiere had already been plunged and spilt onto the table. It was replaced after we called another waitress. These are minor details, but not the service expected from a 4 star hotel.
Location friendly helpful staff comfortable good breakfast choices
As limited movement on shower screen have to get in bath to reach controls and difficult to access to bath only control without having to go pass shower controls and getting sprayed !!
Very average, a number of items only warm and not the easiest cut
There was only one fish item on the dinner menu and that wasn’t available !
The location is perfect and having a safe place to leave the car is a real bonus. Lovely friendly staff.
Nothing
Comfortable large bed helpful reception staff
Nice restaurant
Good position in centre of old town
There were many stairs to reach this room although I asked for a room without stairs
The worst part was that the light in the bathroom did not work, it was on a sensor and it did not go on, so I had to take a shower in the dark, very dangerous I asked for it to be repaired, but they could not do so
I was NOT pleased about this The furniture in the room needed to be updated and also the carpet The room safe was on the floor in the wardrobe, impossible to use also the fridge in the room was on the floor very difficult to get to
A lovely stay once again. Friendly staff who are always very happy to help and my breakfast in bed was delicious.
Location excellent. Very clean plenty of seating
Steep steps from lift to our room
Good sized room. Helpful reception. Very convenient location
Residents having to move out of the bar at 23.00 where they were comfortable & being made to sit in a soulless meeting area. This was on top of residents not being able to buy drinks from the bar after 23.00.
Our room in the annex into the car park was immediately above the delivery bay where refrigerated lorries parked in the morning with their noisy refrigeration units being left running -- v noisy
Very friendly staff.
Great room with view of the cathedral
A few steps to the lift
Breakfast and choice are very good
Carpark is convenient
The building is old fashioned but nice
The huge bed and roll-top bath - brilliant
Our room - Shardlake - was very good except: the toilet flush failed and it was evident that it had happened before.
The motion sensor lights in the bathroom were an irritation..the main lights above the mirrors came on/off/on/off all night long.
Only 2 coffee pods : 1 regular, 1 decaff is very mean.
The great mix of old and new - what a characterful hotel
The staff were great. We really enjoyed the Bentley drive around town with our driver, Jim. He was fantastic. The location of the hotel was perfect for an easy walk from the train station and everywhere else I wanted to go in Norwich. There were also bus stops nearby, so it was an easy bus ride to and from Earlham Park for a music festival. The room was comfy and clean.
The bathroom got a little hot as there is a heated towel rack and turns on every time you turn the light in the bathroom on, but wasn't too bad. Our window was next to the parking lot and there were loud noises that almost sounded like construction around 7am one day and then a delivery truck idling directly in front of our window for quite awhile a little after that, but not much the hotel can do about that since they need to get deliveries from somewhere.
Great location close to cathedral and city centre.
Generally the hotel was disappointingly shabby. The room felt and smelled of damp (there was a de-humidifier in the room but it was too noisy to leave running). The WiFi signal was too weak to be usable in the room. Front desk staff were not unfriendly but looked bored and mildly annoyed to be interrupted.
