The bed was comfortable. The location was perfect We could walk everywhere.
The staff was extremely helpful and welcoming.
The beds were very comfortable. Room well equipped.
Nothing really I can think of
Property fine, comfortable, rooms a little small but fine
Unfair review really as not about property per se. We were coming to end of 10 day tour and had budgeted accordingly, had already payed but when giving credit card at reception payment was mistakenly taken out again and we were informed this could not immediately be refunded. Manager on call did contact head office who dismissed being refunded immediately. This stay was around the end of May and as yet we have not received refund. It left us short of funds during our stay. We were offered a meal voucher but didn’t see email till we were checking out
Conveniently located, to free bus. Staff was cordial and personable.
Check in parking is a mess. You check in at one location than you need to park a few blocks from the hotel where you are staying and transport your luggage from there. Shower could be dangerous for elderly.
Exceptional location, historic charm, and small but comfortable rooms. Excellent service, especially from Susana, who was extremely helpful in resolving an issue.
Made the mistake of booking a room in the main building (Governor Calvert House) last Saturday. At no point in booking, confirmation, check-in, or post-check-in texts (the kind where hotel staff are friendly and check in about your experience so far) did anyone warn us that 1) a wedding was booked that night, 2) our room (3307) directly overlooked the event space (we had interior windows only, looking down on the ballroom), and 3) the event would be going at full-blast until 11pm, with apparently no noise restrictions on the DJ, amps, or crowd.
It was probably a wonderful event...because it certainly took priority over the rest of us. On what was supposed to be a quiet kid-free weekend with an early night, our room windows were shaking, we couldn't hear our tv well or carry on a reasonable conversation (even with the windows closed), and we certainly couldn't think of going to bed early. (Thank goodness it wasn't a family trip with kids!)
Even worse than the actual noise issue, though: I don't appreciate how poorly the hotel handled communication before, during, and after the experience. It was obvious that our booking wasn't part of a wedding room block, so it boggles my mind that they wouldn't try to redirect us to one of the other buildings or at least warn us. Even once the event was underway, we had to reach out to hotel staff to ask when it would be over, rather than the other way around.
The next morning, we tried to follow up with someone to potentially comp some of our room rate--we certainly didn't get a $350+ experience--but were brushed off with an offer to waive a single $30 fee. When we responded that wasn't really a proportional response to the issue, that staffer (a day shift manager, maybe?) said that they would have their manager call us. Well, here we are more than a week later: zero follow-up from anyone, and my credit card got charged the full amount, other than that one small fee.
TripAdvisor won't let me upload videos, but we took several over the course of an hour to document the ridiculousness.
It's a shame, because I love historic hotels, and we were primed to love this sensitively preserved place. But I cannot possibly recommend it at this point in case an event is happening, because you won't know about it until you're in the (very loud) middle of it.
PS The room was generally lovely and the beds were very comfy, but the A/C fan was as loud as the DJ + the bathroom vent looked like something from the submerged Titanic (see picture).
I loved the location and the room itself. Everything was WONDERFUL
That there is no airport shuttle
The location was excellent
The bed was not comfortable and the sheets and towels were stiff and scratchy.
We enjoyed our first stay, at the Robert Johnson House. We chose this hoping it would be most quiet, without event space and the pub, and it delivered. The location can't be beat, we could walk to USNA, and the restaurants and shops by the city dock. The room was elegantly appointed. The bathroom sink area is small but to be expected in a historic inn. The AC worked well. Housekeeping forgot new bath towels on our second day but more were delivered as soon as we called the Governor Calvert House. We would stay here again next year.
Staff were amazing! when I expressed concerns about walking long distances (husband just had a foot procedure) they changed rooms for us to ensure everything was as easy as possible. The valet parking was so seamless and easy and I loved how we received texts from staff with helpful info! We will definitely be back.
wish our stay was longer and also was so curious to see pub which was closed on a Tuesday.
Charm and comfort. Wonderful neighborhood of shops, bars and restaurants. Historic hotel among historic places. Extremely walkable to everything.
