Better air conditioning
The room was very good, and it was great to have a small balcony area from where we could watch the setting sun. The room was comfortable, clean and well appointed. The breakfast was good.
We had booked online and we only found out when we arrived that we could have paid the same price on the day of arrival for the same room but could have had a free breakfast for the 2 days we stayed. So, it was disappointing that the staff member at reception would not accommodate this for us. Even one day paid breakfast and one day free would have been a nice gesture.
It's was very friendly and clean and the staff were great help.
It didn't have a swimming pool
Location and value for money was excellent.
Entry into the carpark was delayed as we weren't aware we had to book-in first. Communication to the office from the entry gate was difficult. The carpet flooring in the restaurant is disgustingly filthy/stained.
Very quiet. Close to public transport. Very comfy bed.
very aesthetically pleasing
nothing at all
Disappointing.
On booking I requested a smoke free room. I then recieved a response form the hotel prior to arrival stating ‘depends on availability’.
When I arrived I saw at check-in that I was to be charged for parking. I asked the receptionist and he’d said that booking.com bookings don’t get free parking. I was surprised by this as I’d seen it on the hotel website.
I asked him to waive and he was unable.
We went to the room. The lighting is all electronic. Our kitchen lights were the incorrectly linked to the lounge room and vice versa. It took ages to work out how to get the lights off so my tired children could sleep. There was no info provided at check-in about wifi or hotel services.
In the morning I spoke to the front office reception manager about the parking fee. She was abrupt and unhelpful. I was astonished. I then spoke to the Hotel Manager Herman Lee.
I’ve stayed in Hotels all around the world and am yet to meet a senior leader with so little regard to customer satisfaction.
I explained that I had booked through booking.com as it was more streamlined and familiar. After reading the hotel website it was not clear that the free parking (and in retrospect the $1 buffet breakfast) were only available to direct bookings. It seemed from the website that these were the hotel standard.
Anyway I respectfully requested a waiver of the $15 fee. As we were often in Canberra next time I would be sure to book via the website as the difference in the offering is now clear to me.
Herman went on this tirade. ‘Hotels are expensive to operate, we need to be profitable’. The owners work hard for their success and shouldn’t give away their money’. ‘
That $15 pays to keep the car park presentable’. Bellowing down the phone ‘I’ve listened, I’ve heard you’. ‘We are number one hotel in Canberra on trip advisor’.
Honestly, the whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth.
See above. Hotel leadership needs some coaching on the customer experience.
