Holiday Inn Express Mesa Verde-Cortez by IHG

We stayed here after a day at Mesa Verde. The lady at the desk was super friendly and helpful, but the hotel seemed like it was outdated and in need of renovations. The crown molding on the third floor we were on I think was vinyl gutters from Menards with caulking. Outside of our hotel door was a cart of tools for renovations and the pool area was not the cleanest area. My kids decided to not swim. When we got into our room there was no smoke detector and there was a wildfire 30 miles away. The manager did come up and install a smoke detector so we were very thankful for that. Breakfast in the morning was decent as we always like that feature of a hotel so we don't need to pay for a hotel and then pay to go out to breakfast!

Great hotel, friendly staff and very clean rooms. Great views, and good restaurant across parking lot.

It’s close to Dennys and Walmart

This hotel was fine for a quick stop to see Mesa Verde. It’s clean, and some rooms have recently been renovated (hotel in process but does not impact your stay).

Breakfast was plentiful and there was enough seating. Typical fare- scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits, etc. The staff replenished often and kept the area very clean.

We looked at, but did not use, the pool and hot tub. Indoor and heated but rather dark space so not hugely inviting. Families might like it for the kids but most adults would probably pass.

Overall a pleasant stay. Good place for a road stop overnight, but not a destination in itself.

Basic hotel close to Mesa Verde National Park

Close to Mesa Verde- but the location is under construction. Because of the construction- we had to take the stairs to and from our second floor room. Our key cards never worked for more than a couple of hours, so we kept on having to get more cards. The breakfast was rather disappointing as well. The pool was cloudy and was disappointing- our key cards never also never opened the pool and someone always had to let us in. I am not sure I would stay here again.

Warning the building is under renovation!!!! The website should have indicated a renovation was in progress. We were given a room on the 3rd floor and was told it was a fully renovated room. Well it was not!!! Oh and a 2nd floor room was also offered but the elevator doesn’t go to the 2nd floor! The problems are numerous.
The closet doesn’t have a bar to hang clothes. The “old” closet area now has a small frig with a microwave slapped on top but the clothes bar and clothes hangers are there but can’t hang anything. There is an iron above the microwave but no ironing board. The sink outside the bathroom is very short and no countertop space & it’s the only sink. There is absolutely no place to put bathroom items. I tiny plastic trash can for the entire king room. The 2 drawers below the place to lay a suitcase don’t have handles. The thermostat screen is malfunctioning and can’t see all the numbers. The trim work isn’t finished. The tub has 5-6 deep gouges down to the cast iron. The tile work is not trimmed. Oh and no coffee pot in the room. Shame on the project manager and HIE for signing off on this sloppy construction work and offering it to customers as a “fully renovated room”! We have been IHG customers for a very, very long time and I’ve never seen a hotel in such a mess.
Oh, the swimming pool and hot tub. Very cloudy. And not well maintained. The pictures of a balcony area with a fireplace is being used to house construction materials so don’t thing that will be a nice place to relax.

Renovation work being done does interfere with the enjoyment of the stay. Although this is not the fault of the staff, I feel we should have been warned about the renovation as we booked in advance.

Not much other than the bed was surprisingly comfortable. Rate was low end.
