We wish we would have stayed longer

Rooms are clean and spacious.

Cons:

The property is older than it looks. Walls are very thin and you can hear your neighbors and people in the corridor. Pipelines make a terrible sound whenever somebody use the bathroom. Wouldn’t stay again. There are several better hotels in Monterey for this price range.

Enjoyed our Stay
Pros:

Stayed during a work trip and the only rooms available on a government rate were full size beds, which were a tad small and a bit hard for my liking. The room was spacious and could have accommodated queen beds. It was clean. Water refill stations are available on each floor and there is flavored water on the main floor. Bring a bottle to fill up! We had a balcony which is just a ledge. It was nice to get fresh air from the slider but it was a bit noisy. I loved the location. The shuttle stop to Cannery Row is across the street in front of the Portola. It is right near the Wharf with shops and plenty of restaurants/candy shops. I enjoyed it much more than cannery row. I suggest making reservations at Rosine's which is very close. I didn't go to the on-site restaurant but it looked very lively with TVs and indoor/outdoor seating. Every employee we encountered was wonderful. Parking is the main issue at this location. It is $50 for self park or valet and the staff were very nice however, we had damage to our vehicle (scratches and paint transfer) that they are likely not going to cover. They are not employees of Marriott. There is a very small parking garage about 1 block away and it is a single story. if you get parking you will be lucky. There is also self parking next to the Portola hotel which was a little cheaper than Marriott. There is a CVS nearby if you forget anything. Lots of food choices near there.

NOT Dog Friendly!!! Pool is LOUD!
Pros:

Not really pet friendly. They need a larger pet relief area. 4x4 urine soaked fake grass. They put us in a room with a partial bay view even though we reserved a full bay view. It was by the pool and so loud!!! Our dogs barked non stop. We asked to be moved and they said they were sold out - I get that - but we had checked in at 2:30pm and regular check in is 4pm. Bad front desk service.
The closest grass for a dog to use is a few blocks away. Never again. Very disappointed in this Marriott. I even tried to call the hotel manager three times - no response. Nice.
