Loved our stay at the Monterey Marriott—definitely 5 stars!
Check-in had a complicated booking issue, but front desk manager Emily (I think) stepped in to help Isaiah fix it fast and professionally. She was extremely friendly, patient, and so helpful—we were really thankful!
The hotel is beautiful with a great heated pool and hot tub, plus a nice restaurant and bar (the beer tasting was fun!). Staff were smiling and friendly everywhere—the bell desk took our bags right to the room, super easy.
Prime spot: short walk to Fisherman’s Wharf and tons of downtown restaurants/food options steps away.
Parking tip: Skip valet and use the nearby City of Monterey self-parking lot (half block away, like Calle Principal Garage). Pay via the easy ParkMobile app during enforced hours (9am-6pm Mon-Sat)—you can choose hourly ($1.50/hr) or the full day max (~$8 + small ~$0.40 app fee). Free after 6pm until morning. If the lower covered lot fills up, try the upper level. Note: Signage in the lot can be a bit confusing with all the details, so snap a pic of the main sign or check the app/zone number right away. Paying from your hotel room is convenient!
Fantastic service, amenities, and location. Highly recommend—we’d return in a heartbeat!
Thanks to Emily, Isaiah, and the whole team!
The Monterey Marriott is in a great central location and is walkable to the main tourist attractions like Fisherman's Wharf and the Aquarium. We had a really nice stay.
Pros:
Giant lobby, friendly receptionist, clean and big rooms. Everyone was super nice. We only stayed one night and paid for the valet parking. In the morning, we checked out, loaded our car and left it with the valet until 4pm. They were able to charge it while we walked to the Aquarium for the day. This was such a great perk because parking is expensive and hard to find close the aquarium and it was a beautiful day so it was a no-brainer to leave the car and just walk.
Cons:
Street noise is pretty loud, it was a Saturday evening and there was a wedding going on at the hotel, so I think that contributed to the noise.
The breakfast was fresh and good.
The rooms are in desperate need of updating.
There were so many dogs we felt we were in a kennel.
They should have floors specific for dogs and families with children. We had to change rooms(floors) just to get some quiet time. First from dogs were barking all night and kids screaming up and down the halls. We reported it, but front desk was of no help. We had to speak with head of department to finally move us to a higher more quiet room. For the amount we had to pay for the room we thought we may have been compensated in some way for the horrible experience we had to endure the first night. The second and third nights were tolerable.
The room was tired needs updating.
Too many dogs. Constant barking! Should have specific rooms for people with dogs. Other hotels we have stayed in have the first floor for dogs.
Kids running up and down halls yelling and slamming doors all night. Hotel should have some control over the noise that disturbs other guests.
Did not eat here
The extra charges- parking, resort fee, etc
Room was big, felt safe, location was close to a lot of things we had planned on our trip
No general parking. The view was nothing like the pictures. We payed enough money to have the view that was pictured and to be able to park. There was no room service to my knowledge either.
Very close to everything that we wanted. Room was great.
Parking
The location was excellent and I was very impressed with how spacious the room was. Customer service was also outstanding, special shoutout to Ann, who helped clear up a mix-up with my invoice. She was incredibly kind, reassuring, and made sure everything was resolved smoothly, which it was. I truly appreciated her help and would happily stay here again.
It was a bit noisy at night since they had events. But nothing that interfered with our stay. However if you’re the types that wants absolute silence you might have an issue staying here.
Nothing but the location was swell
The breakfast was not free and wasn’t included with our reservation the staff said due to the fact we used booking.com we weren’t eligible for the free breakfast . The room was old and dirty. The windows for our city view was covered by trees and dirt. The room was falling apart and on top of that there was a disgusting mildew smell coming from the bathroom. The fact that parking is not free is insane to me and it’s not the flat fee of $39, it ended up being around $45 dollars with Tax. I can honestly say that I won’t be staying at Marriotts anymore and just Hiltons moving forward. Sincerely Disappointed.
I found the property to be in a perfect location for the purpose of my trip. Breakfast was included in my stay and it was AMAZING! Such a variety of different foods! All the staff that I encountered at the hotel during my stay were absolutely terrific....very friendly, gracious and accommodating.
Met all of my expectations, but didn't appreciate the new "destination" fee that was put into place on May 1.
Localização e café da manhã.
Barulho muito desagradável no quarto de um gerador/motor ou de algo do género. Qualidade do sofá-cama. Minha filha ficou com muita dor nas costas porque o colchão era muito fino e as molas salientes. Necessidade urgente de serem substituídos os sofás ou colchões ou ambos.
This is a great Marriott. Fantastic location in Monterey. Close to Old Fisherman's Wharf. The Monterey Aquarium is walkable (but I wouldn't want to walk any farther, and I might take a break for a beverage along the way). Lots of shops and restaurants in the immediate vicinity too. Felt very safe walking around.
The rooms are very comfortable. Clean and lots of counter space in the bathroom.
The elevators were kind of weird. One of the three wasn't working so getting a down elevator from the 5th floor was iffy. We had to let 3 full ones pass before being able to get into one. (After that, we just caught the Up elevators and rode them up and back down.)
The breakfast buffet was amazing. We got it free with our Marriott status otherwise it was $14. (Well worth it.) Fresh-made omelet and waffles. They had rice and gangee soup. As well as a lot of breakfast pasteries (including what seemed to be local donuts). Eggs, bacon, sausage, corned beef hash, potatoes, fresh fruit, yogurt. And great spread.
We valeted our car. It wasn't always quick to get it (up to 20 minutes) but it was pretty painless.
When we return to Monterey this is where we will unquestionably stay.
Good room and environment

Gutes Frühstück war inklusive. Gute Parkmöglichkeiten vor dem Hotel in Seitenstraße.
Auf dem Flur (2. Stock)war immer ein unangehmer Geruch. Teilweise langes Warten auf den Lift. Housekeeing nur "on demand". Duschen hat viel zu schwachen Wasserdruck.
