We are great fans of Porto Bay Hotels so picking Flores for a short break was an easy decision.
Many buildings in Porto consist of a Preserved original façade with a modern development grafted onto the back. Porto Bay Flores is one such and has been particularly well done. The mix of old and new is quirky, some old parts have a Dungeon feel with iron bars to the windows and a dark “tunnel of doom” linking to the new extension which is unashamedly modern, classy and comfortable. The entrance is off a street with traffic restrictions but official taxis can stop right outside, walking to the river less than ten minutes.
Reception was friendly and efficient and they arrange dinner for us at a sister hotel, billing including our Porto Bay discounts was seamless, we just charged the bill to our Flores room number.
Close to the entrance is a small lounge area and the Bistro restaurant where we had a lunch and a couple of evening meals, all very good both food and service.
Breakfast is in a larger room on the next floor, plenty of choice both hot and cold, thankfully for a European hotel the hot food and the tea were actually HOT. They also have an A la Carte menu to complement the buffet which my wife sampled and pronounced excellent.
The outside courtyard garden is lovely peaceful and quiet and just a few steps from the bar.
Facilities are impressive for a relatively small hotel with Gym, Small Pool, Saunas etc.
Our room 605 was Spacious and comfortable, higher floors are recommended to take advantage of the views over the city.
Just one day the morning housekeeping was not done so we had damp towels for getting ready to go out for the evening. On return however everything was cleaned and refreshed so we were happy enough.
Porto is a hilly city with steep streets and steep steps. Sensible shoes are advisable. Rive trips are easily available and at 20 Euros for the fifty minute “Six Bridges” circuit excellent value.
We did not have much sunshine on our visit but enough to see how attractive and interesting the city is.
Porto makes an excellent city break and Porto bay Flores is a well-positioned hotel, close to all the main sights.
Highly recommended.
Excellent location for exploring Porto and accessing the many restaurants located in pedestrianised Flores street.
Staff are really friendly, helpful and professional.
The room we had on 8th floor had stunning views of the city looking across to the Cathedral. Room facilities were good with powerful shower. Big plus was room set at rear of hotel and so quiet which a bonus when Porto fans were celebrating one evening after winning the league.
Only downside was breakfast was definitely a step down from previous experiences in other Porto Bay venues like Cliff Bay Madeira both in terms of its ambience and quality of the food and its presentation both in its buffet area and cooked breakfasts available from the menu. They have a Michelin rating for the accommodation but the food is nowhere near the 5 star level it’s rated at.
This apparently is due to limitations of the building and its kitchen when I queried it but that aspect needs to be addressed as the chasm between Cliff Bay and this location is large on this aspect and reflects on the Porto Bay reputation and marketing for quality.
However the staff we came across daily make up for some this shortfall but it needs attention.

The PortoBay Flores is a truly unique hotel located in an excellent area in Porto. Near the Duoro River as well as the Old Section of Porto. The rooms were beautiful, clean, and quiet. The staff was very attentive and the breakfast was incredible. Would highly recommend this hotel to stay in Porto.
Die Strassenansicht des Hotels ist beeindruckend, was bei der Buchung des Hotels nicht bekannt wird, ist der 8-stöckige Bau dahinter. Es waren einfach zu viele Gäste im Hotel!
Superb location in heart of old Porto.
Excellent friendly staff. Clean and comfortable. Wonderful conversion of an old palace.
Perfect location
Breakfast was amazing, staff excellent
We had a wonderful break in Porto at the Portobay Flores hotel.
Everything is so good. The location is very central and most places are at walking distance.
We had a beautiful large room (I booked a superior room) with a roof terrace with 2 loungers.
The room had a large shower and walk in wardrobe.
Breakfast was buffet with warm and cold options, lots of choice: fresh fruit, danish pastries, croissants to name a few. My husband likes a cooked breakfast, which was also available. There was also a menu you could choose from, but there was so much choice at te buffet that we did not bother.
We enjoyed the cocktails in the evening and talking to other guests in the comfortable bar lounge area.
The hotel also has a courtyard and seats at the front, but it was a bit too cold for me in the evening.
All staff go out of their way to help you and are so friendly.
Thank you so much for a fantastic mini break, hope to return soon.
Ideale Lage mitten in der Altstadt und trotzdem sehr ruhig. Reichhaltiges Frühstück und freundliches sowie hilfsbereites Personal.
Fenster können im Zimmer im ersten OG nicht geöffnet werden.
