Beautiful private retreat
Pros:

We throughly enjoyed each moment of our stay! Honestly some of the best food we have ever had, super friendly and helpful hosts, especially Charley (who greeted us ever morning), beautiful location with a lovely pool, sitting area and amazing rooms! Very remote but a short (if not bumpy and steep) drive into Tamarindo (a fun, busy and touristy town). The massage was so relaxing and the other activities they helped organise were so fun! We can highly recommend Pacific Kalokairi if you are looking for a quiet and peaceful boutique hotel!

Great hospitality, cleanliness, delicious food, amazing views
Pros:

Waking up to the calmness of just the sun and animals is breathtaking. An amazing experience with friends and family was priceless for my birthday. The hospitality of Virginia and her family was exceptional, the food everyday was delicious.

Incredible and unique villa in the mountains 5 min from Tamarindo
Pros:

This place is incredible. My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights. What a spectacular experience. The villas are stunning- very comfortable and great decor. Ours faced the jungle and we saw howler monkeys from our balcony. The staff, especially Carlos, were incredibly helpful and knowledgeable.
The property is very close to Tamarindo and they offer a free shuttle to town every day at 10 am and 6 pm. This was great because we went to the beach and then came back to relax for a bit before heading back out for dinner. The lunch and dinner food at the hotel is also fantastic. I was especially obsessed with the salmon tiradito. I also had a massage which was spectacular. You will love it here! Note that you need to go over a pretty rough road to get here. Most uber drivers will apparently deal with it but one of ours was definitely uncomfortable driving it and we offered to walk the last part. Most of the time we took the shuttle so it wasn’t an issue.

Incredible Stay! Great Views, Food, People
Pros:

Pacific Kalokairi was an incredible stay. We stayed for three relaxing nights in May. Virginia, Carlos and all the remaining staff were incredible. We stayed in an ocean view room and loved it. The rooms were beautiful - clean, stylish, good storage, good AC, beautiful view. Since it is a quick drive into Tamarindo, you get the best of both worlds - a relaxing, isolated hotel - and the town at a moments notice. Would recommend getting an SUV if you plan on driving. The drive is bumpy and uphill but doable. We also took the shuttle one night which was very convenient as well.

The pool is awesome and has a great view from the hill. Loved sitting by here for relaxation and also during meals as they always played great music. Was disappointed they didn't have a playlist we could follow :) .

The food was absolutely incredible (pictures uploaded are half portions as we split everything 50/50 since it was all so good). Beautiful presentation, fun dishes, good variety. 10/10 on the food. Everything from breakfast, lunch, dinner, desert, drinks (alcoholic + smoothies) were awesome.

Would 100% stay here again. Much more unique + nice than anything else you'd get near Tamarindo.

Great birthday week at Pacific Kalokari
Pros:

Everything about the hotel was great! The rooms were spotlessly, clean and very spacious. The bed was super comfortable. We got a room looking over the jungle, which are very nice and peaceful with the greenery and the monkeys outback. Many nights we just were deciding whether to go to town or not, but we ended up staying at the hotel and having dinner in their restaurant overlooking the pool watching the sunset because the food and service was amazing. Chef Daniel was out of this world and Hermon our server was the best. Breakfast was good each morning and Charlie greets you every morning when you come out for breakfast. He’s such a sweet dog. Virginia was super helpful. There are only eight rooms at the hotel so it’s really intimate and quiet. We met several couples while we were there for the week. We were all wonderful people.Overall a great experience.

Pros:

This was a perfect find. If you’re looking for peace & quiet this is the place. There are 8 treehouse like huts that offer privacy & are spaced out. If you love nature and seek privacy & to be away from the crowds then look no further! It’s close enough to town, so when you do venture out, you wont need to drive far. I recommend exploring the area & beyond. To do so without a worry you will need a 4x4. The owners are very nice & are happy to accommodate in any way. We will definitely be returning when we come back to the

Luxury in Tamarindo
Pros:

This small boutique hotel is on the outskirts of Tamarindo, making it feel isolated, but in reality, the beach and town are not far away (by car). The road to the property is bumpy and the driveway steep, but once you enter the electric gates, you are greeted with an amazing view. The staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming and the rooms are a slice of luxury. They are modern, offering all amenities, but feel minimalist at the same time. We stayed in a garden view room, which allowed you to watch the sunrise from the comfort of your own bed. Of an evening, there was nothing better than sitting by the pool with a drink watching the sunset. Breakfast was included, offering fruit, pastries and hot items cooked to order. Dinner was created by a chef from Bilbao offering a selection of daily specials with a Spanish twist. If you're lucky, the monkeys will pay a visit during your stay, providing some non-TV entertainment.

Honest Review from 25 y/o couple!
Pros:

Preface: This review is from a 25 y/o US based, moderately active couple visiting Costa Rica for their first time. My partner found this resort through our Chase travel portal and we wanted to ensure we left a very thorough review to help others understand our stay and what theirs could look like as well.

Location: The resort is roughly an hour and a half from the airport, so make sure you get snacks and drinks at the airport before you leave. The ride to the resort is simple. Slow, but simple. Costa Rica has lots of motorcycles and drivers passing around each other, so if you pick up a car, be mindful of this. When you arrive at the resort, the first thing you will notice is the dirt road that leads up to the main entrance. This road is bumpy and difficult for smaller cars, so if you rent a vehicle, be sure it has 4X4 and get the insurance due to rocks and potholes along the way. The resort is beautifully nestled at the top of a considerable hill, and some drivers will get frustrated about it, but every ride made it up without having any issues. The views are immaculate, with the infinity pool overlooking the scenery and ocean, allowing for wonderful nights swimming or eating at the resort while watching the sunset.

Rooms: We stayed on the left side of the property in a jungle facing room. From what I understand, all rooms are the same except for the view. Our room was absolutely perfect. It’s a well sized, modern bungalow that is perfectly designed for virtually any style of couple. It’s romantic, comfortable, clean, and well air-conditioned. The cleaning staff is outstanding about knowing when you clean your room and they don’t interrupt if you want to have a relaxing morning or a chill day indoors. When they do clean your room, you have options for new sheets and towels or they ask you to consider reusing them, which we didn’t mind doing. The balcony is spacious and there’s nice chairs for relaxing and enjoying the scenery. We saw monkeys (they howl, so be mindful of this) and lots of cool birds. They provide a safe and we had absolutely no issues feeling safe to leave our stuff out since it was such a small and well staffed resort.

Staff: The best part of Pacific Kalokairi is by far the staff. Virginia, Carlos, Carmen, the chefs, and cleaning staff, and everyone else who helps maintain the immaculate experience are some of the best people I’ve ever met while on a vacation or even in general. They make you feel like family. They’re always looking to help, they want to get to know you, and they communicate as a team better than most high-functioning organizations could ever dream of. They even remembered my partner’s nut allergy seven days after she told them and made sure not to include any on a desert platter they prepared for us on our last night. It was an excellent touch. They offer a shuttle into downtown and often provide helpful recommendations and share stories of the resort, their lives, and Costa Rica. Every time we left and went to do some activity, they greeted us upon return like family and were inquisitive about our day and our travels. It made us feel right at home. Oh- and there’s a black lab named Charlie that we consider an honorary employee because of how he greets everyone when they arrive and wake up in the morning for breakfast. He’s the sweetest, most gentle boy ever, just make sure to give him a nibble of fruit in the morning to keep him happy.

Food: The food at the restaurant is absolutely the best food you will find in Tamarindo. It’s extremely well prepared and we didn’t feel that a single dish was off the entire time we were there. They provide a short, revolving menu daily for you to select from for dinner and lunch. They also are not pushy or trying to upsell you in anyway. They simply want you to enjoy your experience. The food is quick and the flavors are immaculate. For breakfast they provide fruit, coffee, toast, and a list of options for you to choose from. It’s all freshly prepared too, nothing pre-made or reheated. Desert is also a nice touch at the end of the night as well. Even when we’d go out to town for dinner, we’d return for the desert. They have a wide variety of beers, wines, and cocktails as well.

Additional notes/recommendations:
Bring ample sunscreen as it is high up on a mountain and there isn’t a lot of shade by the pool after about 1pm.
When in town, get waters to bring back to the room. They provide water in the fridge that’s refilled daily but it’s about two glasses worth.
Ocean facing rooms get much hotter than others. They turn off the AC after they clean, so there’s a chance you could come back to a hot room after a long day. It doesn’t take more than 10 minutes to cool down, however.
Be nice to the staff and to others. It makes the stay much more enjoyable and worthwhile. Don’t be loud and obnoxious, but ask others where they’re from. We ended up befriending an older couple and had some of the best conversations over dinner.
You may seen tiny little bugs here and there. They are infrequent and harmless. You can only expect so much when being right in the thick of the jungle and nature. It’s not a problem at all and is something you’d see at any resort in Costa Rica. Don’t bring food home and leave it open, however, or you will get ants.
Get the pineapple desert, one of the best things I have ever had.

Summary:
If you are looking for a calm, relaxing, intimate stay while in Tamarindo, this is the place to be. We often found that, after a long day, we just wanted to return back to the resort to be with the people and relax quietly at our leisure. The stay actually felt longer than it was, which is contrary to most vacations that feel like they fly by. My partner and I were able to connect and share so much quality time together that we agreed it was the best trip we’d ever been on. Everything about this place is special, it might be on the pricier side of your options, but if you’re willing to pay a bit more for a significantly better experience, you will not regret it in the slightest.

Incredible experience, the simplicity of having all needs met.
Pros:

Reading past reviews assured us we were in for a treat when booking Pacific Kalokairi but yet, the team was still able to surprise us by making this experience better than what we could possibly have imagined! After a long year all my husband and I were looking for was to return to Costa Rica to immerse ourselves in the culture, enjoy the good weather and put the world on pause for 10 days, this hotel and its team provided that and more. The location is perfect, just a few minutes from the beach and all the buzz of restaurants, bars and shops but yet, completely in the middle of the jungle with quiet views of the ocean only interrupted by the beautiful sounds of nature and its birds. We laid by the pool enjoying the perfect temperature weather, drinking delicious cocktails and reading books long awaiting our attention. The rooms are beautiful and spacious tree houses with balconies and comfortable comfy beds that call you in for afternoon naps. Maximum capacity is 16 (8 couples) so, most of the time you feel you have the entire resort just for you. The food is delicious, from the thoughtfully crafted breakfast that is included in the nightly rate to the lunches and dinners created by a chef that has all the experience and none of the attitude, the nicest chef you will ever meet! The rest of the team is equally warm, kind and ready to help with anything you might need. The bonus is Charlie, the in-house dog that will interact with you if you want and leave you alone if you don't, he even bid us farewell the early morning of our departure which we really appreciated. After traveling the world I am convinced I will never find a better luxury experience with such a home feeling, we cannot wait to be back!
(as there are already so many photos available of the property, amenities and overall location, we will share the food, sunsets, Charlie and team)

Serene and stunning upscale home away from home.
Pros:

This hotel feels so luxe. The room set up is amazing- bed is comfy and the shower is awesome. We had an ocean view room and the balcony was our favorite part of the room. We would have our morning coffee there and a wine or tequila night cap out there at night.
The people at this hotel is what makes this hotel so amazing. The folks here are so welcoming. Even before arriving, Virginia helped us out by booking our shuttle from the airport. Everyone at the hotel was amazingly helpful and charming. Charlie the dog greets you every day when you come down from your room. This type of personal attention is what makes this hotel shine. Every night when we left downtown Tamarindo, we felt like we were returning home when we returned to the hotel.
It is true the hotel is on a dirt road that is pretty steep, but of course it's somewhat to be expected when you are in a secluded area on a hill. Transportation was easy peasy- Virginia gives rides into town at set times which is really thoughtful. But if you want to take an uber, it's a quick ride and only costs about 5 dollar US.
Our only regret is not eating dinner at the restaurant. Tamarindo has some really outstanding restaurants and we enjoyed dinner at Dragonfly, Sofia, Pangas and Patagonia.

The vibe at the hotel is one of relaxation. I highly recommend Pacific Kalokairi.

It's a Gem!!!
Pros:

We just got back from a week here. From the moment you get there until the day you leave you know that you have experienced something special. Every morning you are greeted with a friendly Good Morning from Charlie. He makes you feel like you are the only ones there. The staff is very attentive and it starts with Virginia and and flows from the bartender (Carlos), waiter (Herman), and the remaining staff. Can't say enough about the staff. This place is a little gem! Thanks for a perfect vacation Jim/Christine

Awesome, quiet resort
Pros:

What a great time! Small lodge with individual expansive and modern villas overlooking the ocean. Virginia and staff treated us like family and took care of anything you needed. If you are looking for a quiet place to chill, this is it.

Chef Dan was top notch, we had dinner and lunch here pretty much every day (and I'm a picky American eater). The ride to town is short so all options are available for alternative meals. Mom made us breakfast every day, Carlos is always ready to make a drink or "eliminate" a grasshopper, Herman is the cool Argentinian we got to chat with every day and don't forget to give Charley some watermelon at breakfast when you go.

If you like being treated like family, awesome views, clean, modern rooms and a quiet place to relax, this is your place. We'll be back to see our friends again...Pura Vida!

If you’re looking for a place to stay, look no further!!
Pros:

Pacific kalokairi was everything we hoped it would be and more! The rooms (or bungalows) are so big and the views are breathtaking. Everything is so clean and well taken care of. The staff are absolutely amazing and friendly. We’ve only been here for 5 days and they feel like family. And Charley the lab!! He is the sweetest old man puppy. The food here is truly incredible. We did not have a bad meal, everything we ate was a 5 star dining experience.

Additionally, if you’re a yogi like myself, there is a yoga studio within walking distance. Matea is so friendly and is really passionate about her practice.

Our Amazing stay at Pacific Kalokairi
Pros:

Wow, where do I even start? Our time at Pacific Kalokairi was nothing short of spectacular! From the moment we made our reservation, we felt like we were in great hands, and that’s all thanks to the incredible staff, especially Virginia. Seriously, she is like an angel! She answered all our questions and made sure we had everything we needed for a perfect stay.

Breakfast is amazing! Fresh juice, fresh fruit, coffee, eggs, bacon, pastries... you can pick something different every day. And if you're lucky, Charly, his sweet dog, will join you for breakfast, he absolutely loves watermelon!

The location of the hotel is just perfect. It’s close enough to the city center that you can easily pop in for some sightseeing, but far enough away that you can soak in the beautiful nature around you and enjoy some peace and quiet. We loved it!

Now, let’s talk about the food. Oh my goodness, it was out of this world! During our 9 night stay, we ate and had dinner at the hotel practically every day. No joke, it’s the best place to eat around! Everything was always spotless, and every meal was a delight.

The rooms are modern, luxurious, and super spacious! We were blown away by the stunning views of the sea and mountains. Waking up to that every day? Pure bliss!

All in all, if you're looking for a place that feels like home with amazing staff and breathtaking views, Pacific Kalokairi is the way to go. We can’t wait to come back!
