The location was great and the place was very clean.
We stayed in room #210. It was next to the elevator shaft and there was clanking all night whenever someone used the elevator.
Great location and outstanding service 👍
Great staff and clean rooms! The hotel is beautiful and near some major CDMX landmarks. The atmosphere is nice and quiet.
Lovely hotel in a unique building in the heart of centro histórico. Professional and attentive staff. Cleans rooms. Thank you.
The beautiful room and cleanliness, the food was really good and a great location. The staff is extremely friendly and willing to help
I recommend a lot the hotel!
Let’s start with the most important thing that’s barely disclosed: none of the rooms have windows. Zero natural light. Zero fresh air. You’re sealed into a tiny, windowless box. Within minutes it felt claustrophobic and suffocating — not something you expect from a hotel positioning itself as “luxury.”
The hotel is also shockingly loud. Every morning around 9:00 AM, outdated 2010s pop music is blasted through the hallways at an absurd volume. I had to text the front desk every single morning asking them to turn it off. The speaker was so loud directly outside my door that I was able to Shazam the song from my bed. On top of that, it sounded like employees or staff were knocking on doors in the middle of the night. I can’t say for certain who it was, but we were startled awake multiple times for no apparent reason. Rest is nearly impossible here.
The AC barely works, which makes the windowless room even more unbearable. I couldn’t get the temperature below 72°F in late December, and the room was stuffy and uncomfortable. We were sweating just trying to fall asleep — again, in a room with no airflow.
Basic amenities were completely unacceptable:
• Fridge didn’t work
• TV screen is burned out and unusable
• Pool is cold
• Towels had visible stains
• WiFi was unbearably slow and frequently didn’t work at all
For a hotel at this price point, these failures are inexcusable. I’ve had far better experiences at hotels costing one-tenth of the price.
Service was just as disappointing. The overall staff attitude felt careless and disengaged. Multiple employees stood on their phones while we struggled with heavy bags. No greeting, no offer to help, no eye contact — just indifference. It genuinely felt like the staff didn’t want to be there, and by extension didn’t want guests there either.
To make it worse, I booked through the Amex Hotel Collection, which is supposed to include basic perks like late checkout. They refused to honor late checkout entirely, despite the booking channel — zero flexibility, zero hospitality.
If you’re looking to relax, unwind, or get quality sleep in Mexico City, do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. I asked to cancel my reservation within hours of arriving due to these issues and was denied. Given the cost and conditions, it honestly feels like I was robbed of my money.
Extremely disappointing, poorly managed, and absolutely not worth the premium price they charge.
During my vacation in Mexico, I was looking for a nice hotel to stay at. A friend of mine recommended Umbral and even booked the hotel for me because she wanted me to experience it for myself.
I stayed on December 9, 2025, for one night, and I left truly impressed. I had another reservation at a different hotel, but after some issues, I decided to move back to Umbral—and I’m so glad I did and, stayed for 4 nights.
My four days at Umbral were a heavenly experience. The rooms are immaculately designed. The king size bed, pillows, linens, bathroom, toiletries, and shower—everything was perfect. The staff were amazing and incredibly friendly, and room service was top-notch.
I had breakfast on the terrace, which is a huge terrace and it was unforgettable: delicious food, excellent service, and a relaxing view that truly set the tone for the day. I saw a pool at the terrace, tiny one.
The location is perfect—close to several restaurants, the Zócalo, El Palacio de Hierro, and Madero Boulevard, where you can find souvenirs. Even though the hotel is located in the historic downtown area of Mexico City, once you’re in your room, you completely forget you’re in the middle of the city. Sleep quality is a 10. There's always police presence around the area and I never felt umconfortable or unsafe.
The lobby is elegant and mysterious, and as soon as you step into the hotel, you’re welcomed by a beautiful fragrance from the diffuser.
I honestly have nothing negative to say about this hotel. I’ve found my go-to place to stay in Mexico City whenever I visit.
The location is great for experiencing the city of Mexico. It's all historic. I felt comfortable at this hotel, staff are very friendly and pleasant. A bit upscale but I wouldn't have it any other way. Loved my stay here
Fantastic hotel. Great location right by tie zocalo. Staff could not have been more accommodating. I had a tiny problem w my room and the maintenance person was there in less than a minute to fix. Room was quite clean and delightful.
The property is ideally located near the Zocalo, Bellas Artes, and Mirador Torre Latinoamericano. Friendly, helpful staff. The rooms were comfortable, and the shower drainage was excellent.
The Umbral Hotel is a great option for relaxing. The staff is very friendly, and they really take your needs into account, even helping with personal sightseeing plans. Everything was excellent, and the location is very central
Such an excellent stay at Umbrio, the staff is second to none. So helpful, kind and available anytime we needed anything’s
I really enjoyed my stay here. The front desk and concierge team were super friendly and always ready to help, which made everything feel easy and welcoming.
Breakfast was tasty every day just wish there were a few more options.
Overall, great vibe and great service. I’d definitely come back!
Very professional and clean - I highly recommend this place - close to all the action. Go eat at Azul restaurant a short 4 minute walk from the hotel.
Was amazing. Staff was incredible. And so kind. The room was beautiful. Such a fun must experience type of visit. Was a perfect place to visit for the first time in Mexico City
Everything was great, awesome location in center of Mexico City. Beautiful atmosphere and amazing staff. Rooms are incredible and nice roof top with pool and restaurant
Such a fun, unique property with beautiful decor. The beds were comfortable, excellent customer service from the staff, and the roof top restaurant for breakfast was fantastic! Would definitely book again.
Location
Not worth the price. I booked a King room, the room is quite simple, no view at all, one small window looking at a concrete wall, A/C didn’t work properly so the room was freezing. At a rate of $400 (inc tax) per night value for money is very poor.
Hotel did not recognise the offers I’d selected from Booking.com. In part Booking.com’s issue as not all the information is reached them, but I had emailed the hotel 4-5 days before arrival with questions and to confirm the offer from Booking and they didn’t respond, via Booking or via direct email. It was resolved in the end but it was a struggle at check-in.
