Location
Very dated and disappointing for the price. The room was extremely stuffy, and the windows do not open, so I had to leave the door ajar just to get some fresh air. I woke up feeling sticky and uncomfortable, like I needed a shower immediately.
The carpets were old, and the room had a strong stale, sweaty smell. I paid $$$ expecting at least a basic, clean, comfortable hotel room, but the overall condition felt much closer to an aging budget motel.
Definitely not what I expected at this price point.

The hotel is in an excellent location, close to many good restaurants/cafes, and a reasonable 30-40min walk to Rodeo Drive and/or Grove. The rooms are spacious, and the living/sleeping area is very funky and modern, with an updated bathroom.
I booked 4 rooms as I was travelling with friends, and 2 of the guests were selected as guests of the day to receive an upgrade.
Rabbit Coffee is about a 5-minute walk away, which is a hole-in-the-wall cafe run by an ex-Aussie who makes excellent coffee for those who like more Australian-style coffees.
Whilst manageable and the area is not noisy, the rooms do not have much soundproofing. Noise from neighbouring rooms and conversations in the open area can be heard. Given we were out most of the day & went to bed around 11pm or later was not a major issue for us.
I booked 4 rooms under my name using Booking.com and specified the names of the occupants of each room. Strangely, all messages about pre-check-in forms, hows our stay, and checkout plans while coming to my email/phone were addressed not to me who made the booking but randomly 1 of the other guests and not corrected even when I pointed this out via Booking.com messages or at check-in.

No service
We had a tiny room with no window, no sir ventilation at all. It smelled weird. There was no safe in the room even though we were told all the rooms have safes. They did not offer to bring us a safe when we requested one. The hot water took a long time to heat up and the bathroom lights kept going on and off even when someone was in the bathroom. The only good part of the hotel is the outdoor space, especially the covered couches. They were a great place to sleep when the room was too stuffy and smelly.
i WOULD GIVE THIS A 2.5-3. i MEAN the floor of the "courtyard" was flooded and the room was kind of lipstick on a pig. New soap and shampoos but lumpy mattress, rusty dresser etc. fine for a night or if you have to be in pico robertson near synagogue or if you get a good rate or need to be near synagogue

Very clean, unique hotel. Definitely had history charm to it. We loved the comfort and it was quiet. We had children and it was kid friendly.
We felt there was nothing that could have been better. everything met our expectations.
Loved how close it is to downtown and Beverly Hills. Easy to walk to dinner. Front desk was friendly and fast. Very affordable compared to other hotels. Would stay again.

Carlyle inn was clean, staff were impeccable and location is centrally located for a great holiday
The Carlyle Inn room was clean and well maintained. The king bed was comfortable. The room was quiet despite its location on a busy street. Parking was in a covered area and adequate. My only complaint was that the internet service in the room was nonexistent. We went to the lobby to use the internet on our devices because there was a solid wifi signal there.
