We had a wonderful stay at The Barnes Hotel in San Francisco! We usually stay at a larger hotel across the street, but this time we wanted to try something a little different. The smaller size of the hotel gave it a more cozy and intimate feel, which made our trip even more enjoyable.
The daily hotel credit was a fantastic perk we used it every day to grab snacks, which was such a nice bonus during our stay.
A special thank you to Latoya, who was incredibly sweet and friendly throughout our trip. We spoke with her often, and she recommended a sushi restaurant that ended up being amazing super fresh and absolutely delicious!
Omarion was also wonderful, always happy to answer our questions and provide great recommendations. Frankie at the front desk was very kind and helpful, suggesting several great places for us to visit around the city.
Robert, the security officer, made us feel especially welcome. He greeted us every day when we were leaving and returning to the hotel, and one evening he kindly brought us extra blankets and pillows when we requested them.
Angelica was always so warm and friendly, greeting us with a smile every time we came in or left the hotel.
The entire staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Their kindness and hospitality truly stood out and made our stay memorable. We had a great time and would absolutely stay here again. Highly recommend The Barnes Hotel to anyone visiting San Francisco!
Pretty spacious room, cute decor, and nice bed.
The AC was REALLY loud and hard to turn off, so we just ended up unplugging it.
The staff from this hotel were really nice and friendly. It is an older building with lots of character, it has a small restaurant bar at front with live music on Thursdays. The rooms are small but charming, I would stay here again. Great location just half a block from Union Square, the subway is nearby and lots of stores and restaurants within walking distance.
The tapestry collection of hotels in the Hilton portfolio is usually pretty darn good. This hotel is no different.
The rooms are nice, the location is perfect, everything you would want in Hilton Hotel.
What sets this hotel out above everything else is the customer service. I interacted with housekeeping and they were great. Amarion he is one of the best front desk staff that I have encountered in all my travels. Saw me in the hall and called me by name. I can’t remember what I had for breakfast this morning let alone somebody’s name I met. What a valuable employee! He helped me on check-in and has answered various questions as part of my stay.
I highly recommend this hotel.
Well the staff Amarion,Marian,Carmen at the reception desk were so helpful and informative about the city and all the amenities the Barnes hotel had to offer.
Great location and the breakfast was good. Shout out to Marian at the front desk for the superb hospitality.
The hotel has a storied past hosting a speakeasy during prohibition and the Navy West Coast headquarters during the Pacific war. The location by the union Square is great. However, I guess I was unlucky with my room. It was dark and stuffy. The view was to a brick wall a foot away. Luckily there was a fan in the ceiling because the A/C was weak. I felt claustrophobic and didn’t want to spend time in the room. Fortune, the lobby bar is quite nice.
This hotel has a very good atmospheric for mid-town hotel good location for traveling in San Francisco the facility is fully prepared and we’re really appreciate the reception lady name Carmen for a friendly service and being so kind to our sick baby.
Tapestry collection means the building is old and renovated. Rooms were small and felt cramped. A nice bar area at the front of the hotel but no coffee available there and that was only open after 5pm. No desk in the room I was assigned. Also annoying that no points would be given if room was booked through a third party entity. Also the street is closed so no Ubers allowed to take you directly to the door of the hotel making it difficult if you have luggage. Pick up and drop off at the corner. Hotel about half down the block.
This hotel is in a great location within San Francisco. Unfortunately the rooms in this hotel are very small and bathroom is tiny. Other than that the rest of the hotel is very good.
I am a resident from Houston, Tx traveling to San Francisco for the first time and Mrs. Carmen at the front desk made me feel really welcomed after my long flight. She provided me a mini fridge for my room and even offer an complimentary cable car ticket to explore around the city! The rooms were a bit small but other than that, it well very well designed as a boutique hotel. And location wise, I was right on Powell Street which is one of the main streets in San Francisco Union Square to make it convenient to go anywhere you need to go. Above all, the hospitality of The Barnes has been wonderful and encourage others who are reading this to make this hotel your main stay while traveling to San Francisco! Thank you Barnes Team! You guys are awesome!
I will definitely come back and recommend this hotel. It's very accessible to everything you need, but most of all, the staff are very friendly, helpful, and they go above and beyond to make our stay wonderful! Shout out to Angelica, Frankie, and Amarion.
Frankie should be your customer experience champion! He works SO hard — I saw him every day during our stay from when we left in the morning to when we returned late afternoon — and he was always on point. He is so welcoming and fun while still maintaining a professional manner to address any issues/concerns we had. In my opinion, he is invaluable to this organization and made our experience truly special. I also visit SF a handful of times for work every year and because of Frankie, I will stay here every time! And another shout out to Omarion! He also stepped up and worked the bar one night for someone that called out sick and was awesome. I love to see hardworking young people who go above and beyond. I give this experience a 20/10 for Frankie and Omarion. I will return!
I loved this hotel. We had a great stay and would def stay here again if we ever come back. The front desk staff was so friendly and kind and always welcoming. The breakfast and dinner staff were also so friendly and attentive. Everyone I encountered in this hotel was fantastic. The hotel has a kind of “art deco” vibe to it. It’s def an older building but they have redone it and it’s beautiful. I can only speak about the deluxe king room that we had but it was amazing. It felt so roomy. It was very clean.
The rooms have an added bonus in your room of postcards with the hotel logo and scenes from San Francisco. My son thought this was the coolest thing ever and couldn’t wait to send them out. My only complaint/tip would be for the hotel to sell postcard stamps! We had to walk to the post office to buy them. Granted, it’s not that far from the hotel but it would be great if the hotel would sell them at the desk.
The trolley goes right by the hotel. The train station is one black away. Plenty of shopping and food everywhere around you. A bonus…a super cute bookstore right across the street!!
This hotel is worth checking out for your San Fran stay!
I had a wonderful stay at the Barnes Hotel in San Francisco from April 2–5 while visiting with a friend, and I can’t say enough good things about the experience.
The hotel itself is charming—quaint, rustic, and full of character. It’s also in a fantastic central location, just off Powell Street and steps from the cable car, making it incredibly easy to get around and explore the city. Whether walking or using public transportation, everything felt very accessible.
What truly made the stay exceptional, however, was the people. As a lifetime Diamond member who travels quite a bit, I genuinely appreciate great service, and the team here went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and taken care of. Everyone we encountered was warm, professional, and clearly committed to guest experience.
A special thank you to Amarion, the front desk manager, and Francisco, who were both incredibly helpful and made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. At breakfast, Oliver and Frankie were absolutely fantastic—friendly, attentive, and a wonderful way to start each morning.
The kindness and hospitality from the entire team truly made our trip memorable. If you're looking for a charming place to stay in a great location with genuinely caring staff, I highly recommend the Barnes Hotel. I would happily stay here again.
Central location, easy check in, king size bed room was good size for the price and being in San Francisco, bed was extremely comfortable.
Only one elevator was working and it was slow
Amarion, the bartender, was friendly, approachable and accommodating. He even got me a chess set to play on my last night at the hotel
