Great hotel, very clean and comfortable. Would recommend.
The location could not have been better. It is generally a beautiful hotel. The staff were all very respectful and helpful. The food and bar longue were also great.
The roomed smelled like mold. We tried asking for housekeeping to bring up some air fresheners, but it did not change the odor. It was not a simple odor that could be cleaned away. It was a permeating smell of mold that would hit you in the face the moment you walked in the room. I understand that the lake and the rainy weather may have added to it, but I do not think having to deal with a moldy odor is worth paying nearly $600 a night. It made everything feel musty and dirty.
Clean, modern amenities, good bar and restaurant. Comfortable bed
Nothing
Le personnel était très aimable et serviable.
This year, during my annual ~2,200 mile drive, I decided to use my Free Night Certificate from Marriott to pay for my mid-journey break. I'm a lurker in a few Marriott Bonvoy internet groups and a frequent complaint is that there's nowhere to use these certificates, as points have been devalued over the years. While that last part is true, they're definitely wrong about "nowhere" - because I found the Merriweather Lakehouse and used my FNC for my stay and wow - it felt like a steal.
The property used to belong to Sheraton (I think) and is relatively easy to get to off the highway. It's a large, beautiful (compared to most hotels) building and it has a very large - and free - parking garage right across from the entrance to the building.
The interior feels new and spacious. Without asking - probably because it was like a Tuesday - they kindly upgraded me to a lakeview room.
It felt modern and luxurious and didn't have the typical musty/slightly sweaty aroma that most rooms do. The bathroom had an actual door on the outside, and a normal sliding door to the shower - another gripe in these Bonvoy groups has to do with the shower doors (or lack of) and odd bathroom configurations. No complaints here; I really liked this one. As for lakeview?
It certainly delivered. There's a walking path/running trail that goes around the lake and I saw countless people running or walking their dogs during the day. It's pretty well-lit at night, so there were still people meandering around after dark. I definitely sat on the couch and just stared out the window at the water for a while...I'd missed the beauty of Fall foliage.
So one thing I'm guilty of on these long drives is avoiding stopping for anything besides gasoline and a bathroom break, meaning my nutrition is generally...absent. I hate the smell of food in my car and I'm very particular about avoiding crumbs, so I'm limited to easy snacks (think: tiny one-bite crackers, string cheese). As a result, when I finally stop for the night, I'm quite hungry but am too tired to go anywhere, so I stick with whatever the hotel has available. For Merriweather Lakehouse, that's the restaurant, "Lāk" and yes, it is amusingly pretentious...but the food was both delicious and reasonable in cost for the large quantity given. Their brussels sprouts with an apple cider reduction with garlic aioli were wonderful, and the chicken strips were fantastic. I went there in the morning for brunch and the eggs benedict was one of the better I've had. Alas, I didn't take photos but I wish I had.
Overall, the bed was extremely comfortable and the shower water pressure was on point. I was in a room on the second floor and right below me was the restaurant and their outdoor terrace. I imagine in warmer months, if the terrace had people mingling, that it might be loud - but it was silent. I didn't hear noises from any nearby rooms or hallways so I slept fabulously.
Even if it hadn't been a free night, I'd classify it as an excellent stay. If I hadn't booked the hotels (at incredible point values) for the return journey, I'd have stayed there on my way back. One thing is for sure - I'll remember this hotel for the future!
My husband and I had a great 2-night stay in a 5th floor room. It was clean, well-appointed, and quiet. We appreciated the free parking. We took advantage of the gym and walking paths along the lake. We had a duplicate charge on our bill from the bar. I had a rather prickly interaction with the front desk manager when attempting to resolve the issue. However, that would not keep me from visiting again.
Clean property and good staff
For what it is, the rooms are ridiculously overpriced
We are currently staying here on our 4th of 5 nights.
We select this hotel when in town visiting our family. It has a great location close to shopping and restaurants.
However, this time our visit has consisted of an AC unit that makes a loud whining noise when it turns on every time.
The power has gone out in our room twice, necessitating a call to the front desk and maintenence running up to flip the breaker back on. Each time the power went out, it was always in the middle of getting dressed to go out, so it made us late both times.
This morning at 5:20am, the fire alarm went off and everyone had to exit the building and head outside in the cold. The alarm continued for around 45 min until the fire dept could determine there was no fire. I have to wonder if the breakers flipping off and the fire alarm going off indicate an electrical issue of some sort.
We are just disheartened because this was always our choice for staying in the area and it’s a lovely property. However, these latest issues have made it difficult to want to return.
