Honestly, this is the worst hotel experience you can imagine. Initially we were given a room directly behind the front desk entrance -- meaning loud delivery trucks, garbage trucks, in and out burger truck, not to mention it was right in front of the elevators so you hear everybody coming and going. When we told the front desk, they said they could not provide us with another room until the next night. After putting us in 305, again directly in front of the elevators, after we told them expressly not to, our room A/C was broken, the shower was scalding hot, and our wifi was not working so our Tv did not work at all despite multiple resets. Juan was sent to fix these things the NEXT day.
Not to mention, this hotel has fewer amenities and worse hygiene than a dingy motel. There is not even a microwave in your room or on the property at all. Soap had not been replenished and carpet had stains and bed smelled. Aside from that, the fridge was set to 55 degrees and all of our food/milk went bad. You cannot adjust their tiny, dwarf mini fridge.
It is also a scam. $90 for two days of parking with signs that say "We are not responsible if all your belongings are stolen" and multiple ambiguous charges on our bill at check out. They charge you $30 a night as a hotel fee under the guise of encouraging you to use a credit to buy their overpriced garbage. Nothing is included, breakfast will run you $60 a person. Rooms feel claustrophobic.
You don't get the feeling anyone competent works here, we watched people getting trained on the spot. No one is ever cleaning and this place is a hazard. WE FOUND DRUGS LITERALLY NEXT TO THE POOL AFTER BEING TOLD THIS IS A SMOKE FREE HOTEL. Ridiculous.
Above all, hospitality was non existent. Luigi is the smuggest, most annoying, clueless, condescending, unprofessional Operational Manager you will find at a hotel in the states. He downplayed all of our concerns and shrugged his shoulders when we told him about these problems including a broken a/c, cleanliness, broken shower, etc. Then, he had the audacity to say "So what is it you are wanting?" After all our complaints, he offered us a measly $30 promotional credit to use at the snotty breakfast restaurant upstairs, which does not even cover drinks for two people. As he was brushing us off, a trainee named Tanya interjected almost to try to impress her new boss. She even said "What do we have to give you for you to go?"
If you like burning your wallet, wasting money, or spending a small fortune and mortgaging your house for one night here just know: when you call, no one will pick up the phone to answer your concerns and this place is atrocious.
I am currently staying here and the location is great. The service has been amazing too. Laila at sea and sky made me feel at home for breakfast. She was amazing 10/10. I loved the pancakes. Will definitely go back!!
Great location, not as hectic as the cove, but easy access to the beach. Nice restaurant/bar with stunning views at sunset. Room was nicely appointed, if a little dated in aspects. Balcony was great.
I paid for all the extras on booking.com and didn't get all the extras by any means:
- king size bed (x) we had 2 queen beds for our anniversary. :-/
- high floor (x) 4th floor as there were no high rooms left due to overbooking
- $50 f&b voucher per day (x) was given $50 in total, supposedly due to the first two points, not because I paid for them
- early check-in/late check-out (partial) got a late check out, but requests for early checkin went unanswered and our room wasn't ready until 4pm anyway.
I would advise others not to pay for extras on here since the hotels don't honour them.
Laila serving our breakfast was friendly, efficient and informative. An asset to your staff! The accompanying views of La Jolla, the Pacific, and the surrounding hills are spectacular.
Abysmal experience. Ruined the Hilton brand for me.
Check-in - Was late but the guy seemed high as a kite and took forever to "boot up his computer". When I walked to the desk, he was on his phone chatting with a buddy. Took more than 30 seconds to get him to get off his phone while I am twiddling my thumbs waiting for him. Then it takes him 5 more minutes (no exaggeration) to find my reservation. He says the "computer is slow" and tries to make small talk but again, pretty incoherent and at this point I am getting extremely agitated as I am tired after a long journey and it's crazy how long this is taking for a $350/night hotel. One guy in the entire hotel to help and a slow computer. He doesnt ask me about an upgrade despite being a Diamond and after I finally get the key, I am repulsed by how dirty and old the elevators are. I get a bad room assignment next to the elevators and its filthy. I took a bunch of pictures and happy to share with hotel management. Next day was worse - had breakfast at their 11th floor restaurant and when I get the invoice after I get home, they double charged me. Every single item was duplicated and even though they took $30 off for the destination fee they charge every day, they didnt also credit me for my Diamond benefit. So not only did they double charge me, they also didnt add the credit. Overall, awful stay in an awful hotel with awful management. I usually dont write reviews but felt compelled to. Serious improvement needed. Hilton's name is tarnished by this hotel.
Food was great, atmosphere was great, and the service from Laila was great as well! Would definitely take the family here again!
Laila was the Bert server and the restaurant was a great view! Thank you for a great brunch!
Great service at the restaurant with Laila
Hotel was beautiful, had excellent service from Rob at Front Desk. He was friendly, attentive & made sure our stay was excellent. We got a beautiful room overlooking the beach and woke up to the prettiest pink sunset. Loved our stay here and will be coming back. Also the hotel restaurant was amazing and had a great happy hour.
Hilton Curio La Jolla was excellent……location , staff and service.
Laila @ sea and sky dining was very friendly and made it a pleasure to dine there for breakfast every morning. Look forward to my next stay.
Love the hotel…. very convenient friendly staff room is very clean and loved the breakfast on the 11th floor beautiful view.
We had a great waiter on the 11th floor named Eddie. He was excellent.
We reserved a block of 25 or so rooms in April 2026 for my son and new daughter's wedding, a monumental undertaking and very special moment for our family and friends
The Hotel La Jolla staff came through on its promised efforts to provide the best possible accommodations and service to our group, including early check-in where possible and placing our guests in the best possible rooms on the higher floors. Our schedule was tight on 4/9, with official check-in time of 4 pm and a wedding start time of 5 pm off site, I was worried that some of our guests would not have time to check-in, change for the wedding, and make it in time to attend the ceremony. One by one, however, I was contacted during the late morning and early afternoon hours by our guests, all of which had been able to check in with plenty of time to make it to the ceremony. Not one single guest was late!
Our guests very much appreciated the accommodations, the service and attentiveness of the hotel staff and the food and service at Sea & Sky. I heard no complaints from anyone in our group, but did hear many compliments. The hotel staff's ability to operate seamlessly both face-to-face and behind the scenes provided a worry free, enjoyable environment that enhanced the mood and celebration of our wedding party.
Unfortunately I didn't have the chance to meet all of the team personally, but I do want to particularly call out Luke at the front desk for his extremely kind, patient, and service oriented treatment of our party. He was so responsive and helpful, whether during the day or late at night. Also compliments to Regan, her chef, and service staff at Sea & Sky. The food was perfect and our guests loved breakfast on the 11th floor. The french toast (which regretfully I didn't try) seemed to be the big winner, but the chimichurri breakfast steak, bacon (yum) the fruit plate and the pancakes all received praise.
I don't go online to give public feedback very often, but in this case feel a shout out and public "thank you" to the Hilton La Jolla team is warranted -- for helping make our event one that my son and his bride, and their most beloved family and friends, will remember forever. The couple was on cloud nine and we are all still smiling as we reminisce.
Nicely done Hotel La Jolla!
I would strongly recommend against booking events or room blocks at Hotel La Jolla.
This has been one of the worst and most unprofessional hotel experiences I have ever had. A room block was booked in error, cancelled shortly after signing, and cancelled well before the event. The hotel released the rooms back into inventory, later confirmed they did not sell out, and still kept nearly $4,400 in penalties and deposits. The contract also appeared to include a 100% cancellation deadline that had already passed before the agreement was even signed.
What made it worse was the complete lack of communication and ownership. I have been trying to resolve this for months. Emails went unanswered, staff turnover seemed to happen without any proper handoff, and I repeatedly had to restart the conversation with new people.
Instead of trying to resolve an obvious issue with a long-time customer, they hid behind a bad contract and treated the situation like a collections exercise. Based on this experience, I would not trust this hotel to manage even a simple event or room block. If anything goes even slightly wrong, I would expect them to exploit the situation rather than act like a reasonable hospitality partner.
There are many better hotels in La Jolla and San Diego. I would avoid this one entirely for events, meetings, or group bookings.
The ocean view room I purchase barely have a view of the ocean. Only visible through holes between trees. The front desk said that I need to call advance to get a better room. Note that requesting high floor through notes within the website may not work.
Great hotel, very clean and comfortable. Would recommend.
Laila is amazing! She was our server 2x during our stay and was so lively and personable (and funny)
Our food was amazing and the views outstanding
Had breakfast here. Food was fresh with lots of good selections. Pleasantly surprised. Service was OUTSTANDING. Ask for Eddie.
