Didn’t eat Breakfast.
It was close to Palmer Street
Beds , mattresses are not comfortable
I stayed four nights in an executive king room. I was warmly welcomed at reception and soon in my room. Room 1707 had superb views over the Ross River, Stadium and out to Magnetic Island. The location is fantastic, in the heart of the city (but don't expect much in the way of shopping, it's mainly cafes and restaurants) and walkable to the Strand. The Grand Chancellor is an icon of Townsville, but the rooms, corridors and exterior are rather drab.
The rooms are comfortable and well furnished, but the carpet, feature wall and bathroom tiles they have chosen made the rooms look rather dull. Which is a pity as I think this icon deserves better, the cabinets, bedhead, chairs and coffee table are all nice though. The first two days I had a lovely housekeeper who kept my room looking good, however on the third night I must have had a different cleaner as the bed was roughly made and my dirty coffee mug was not replaced. There were also some areas in the shower that needed attention.
I had dinner in the Sugar Shaker Restaurant and both the service food were very good, my pork cutlet was very tasty, I also enjoyed the coconut brulee but I wasn't sure if the texture was quite right. The buffet breakfast was very good, although I was surprised by the lack of scrambled eggs. I also had room service, the steak and mushroom pie and bread and butter pudding were absolutely delicious, but it took an hour to come.
The Grand Chancellor has lovely public areas, the rooms are ok, the views however are spectacular especially from the rooftop pool area, so I am happy to recommend it.
Location and very quiet
The bathroom floor was abit slippery
Room amenities and cleanliness were good
Rooms, bathrooms were a little dated. need to do some refurbishments. Gym cable machine not in working order
Overall property was excellent
The pillow were a bit uncomfortable
Close to everything
No internal access to parking
Right in town, bed was nice
The aircon fan rattled if you turned it up, the toilet door handle is very loose and the door is filthy, it’s just a little run down. The lounge was hard as, it’s like they removed the cushions and we were sitting on wood.
Location was great.
Next to mall at night was not great with undesirables hanging around
It was clean and good location
There was no parking. And it would have been an extra fee, if they did have parking.
The rooms are dated.
The ducted air conditioning was so noisy I thought I was in a laundry, couldn't turn it off or crack a window. Beds were good but the pillows were lumpy.
I wouldn't stay here again.
