We’ve stayed at the Westgate several times over the last year for business and for weekends away in San Diego. It always exceeds expectations. The rooms are beautifully appointed, with comfortable beds and marble bathrooms. The lobby is gorgeous, and the health club access next-door is unbeatable. One of the best hotel gym experiences I found anywhere. Best of all is the exceptional service and attention from the staff. They are always friendly, professional, and make you feel as though any request is never too much to ask. A special thanks to Sophia and Joe for making this stay particularly special. We are always happy to return.
It's the people that made our stay so special...sure the amenities were great, clean well appointed rooms, with fabulous views, great pool area not to mention restaurant & bar. Really if you weren't in San Diego to vacation you wouldn't need to leave, but when you do, you are within walking distance to pretty much everything you want to see downtown. However, I think what really set this hotel apart are the people who work there, always friendly, helpful and seems genuinely wanting your stay to be a pleasant one.
Grace & Gratitude , I finally tried The Westgate San Diego 🙏

Always be sincerely kind & tip well if ya can , these people work so hard to please y'all , I had a nice time ☯️
I recently spent one wonderful night at The Westgate Hotel in downtown San Diego, and it exceeded all expectations for a short getaway.
The room was impeccably clean, spacious, and comfortable, with every surface spotless and well-maintained. Housekeeping clearly takes great pride in their work.
Breakfast the next morning was a highlight – fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. The quality and variety made it feel like a special treat to start the day.
I also loved the rooftop pool area, which is San Diego's largest and offers incredible skyline views. Relaxing by the pool was the perfect way to unwind, and having access to the bar up there for drinks and light bites added to the experience. The gym (part of the impressive AquaVie wellness center) was top-notch too – modern equipment, plenty of space, and very clean.
A huge shoutout to manager Sarah at the front desk! Her attentiveness, and genuine hospitality made the stay feel extra special. She went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect, embodying the best kind of customer service.
Thanks for the memorable night!
This is a great hotel. My partner and I have had several recent frequent visits to SanDiego, and have stayed at the Westgate with each visit.
As soon as I saw the entrance and sitting room area in the lobby, I knew this would be a nice hotel. I actually took a picture of the lobby on my second visit. The rooms, including the bathrooms, and the hallways are large, comfortable, and very tastefully appointed. The gym that is available for guest is. amazing, including the pool and hot tub.
The front desk staff is exemplary. They are gracious, kind, and attentive. I’ve especially enjoyed the kind service provided by Ivan and Sofia,.
Don’t even get me started on the cookies they serve at 5 PM and 7 PM….
This is a great hotel
My first visit to the Westgate Hotel was in the early 70's shortly after it was built. I remember the splendor of it. When we visited the hotel recently it seemed to be an old and tired version of its former glory.
The hotel has not been brought up to date in many ways and it not being maintained as well as it needs to be. Our room was beautiful to look at, but in reality was lacking in some upkeep and repairs as well as not brought up to some practical standards for today's travelers. There were no extra electrical outlets near the bed for plugging in electronic devices or items like a CPAP. So bring your own power strip with you. No towel bars in the bathroom except for one hand towel ring. No dresser to unpack clothing and store it. The coffee pot for the room was stowed away in what looked like a chest of drawers of sorts, but was really just a place to store the coffee maker and a small refrigerator. The problem with the coffee maker was that once again, there was no where to plug it in to use it. And the refrigerator smelled as though it hadn't been cleaned and something was growing inside of it. There are no ice machines on each floor as you'll find in most hotels. Instead, you have to go to the lobby to get some ice.
We ordered room service several times and also ate in the restaurant several time for both lunch and dinner. It was hit and miss with the food and the service.
Overall, the service was friendly in the entire hotel, but never seemed as though anyone really cared.
The area that the hotel is in has become an area for many homeless people, so we didn't feel comfortable walking around, particularly at night.
I had high hopes for re-living my memories of my first stay here in the early 70's, however, I'm disappointed to say that we probably wouldn't stay here again.
Location:
The hotel is a short walk from the Gas Lamp District. However it is equally close to the jail and courts, so it can be a bit sketchy with lots of homeless.
Noise:
It can be very noisy depending on which room you get, so be careful which side of the hotel you are on. There is a metro stop less than 50 feet from the hotel so there are horns blasting from 5 am to midnight that are very prominent, even with all the windows closed. The hotels solution is to leave earplugs for the guests, so they are aware of the issue but have not addressed it in a meaningful manner, by insulating the windows.
We did not notify the staff, but was refunded a resort fee once they were made aware. I do feel for the hotel because the Metro system is no fault of the hotel, yet they and their guests bear the brunt of the impact of the noise. Retrofitting an entire side of a high-rise will be very expensive.
Rooms/Decor:
The hotel itself is very nice. There is live music such as harps players in the lobby and the decor is renaissance style, both in the lobby and rooms. The hotel is showing its age, but well maintained. They have outside patio, a running track and full gym and spa.
The rooms are clean and spacious with large windows and a very pleasant decor and color scheme. Each room have discreet room entrances which really makes it feel exclusive. The beds are comfortable with what appears to be down pillows and comforters. The room comes with a mini fridge and coffeemaker.
The A/C system is one of the best we've experienced in any hotel regardless of price range. It is quiet and immediately responds to either heat or cold settings.
The room safe is an odd old fashioned safe that requires a credit card which is concerning, considering you are required to swipe your credit card in order to lock it and open it. Credit card readers have the potential to be misused, so I would hope they replace that system. We had an issue with the room phone not working, but that was addressed the same day.
Staff/Service:
The staff is very friendly and what you would expect from a hotel like Westgate. They always greet you upon entry and departure
We had a wonderful stay at the Westgate Hotel. Sarah and Leslie were both incredibly kind, welcoming, and helpful throughout our visit. They made everything smooth and made us feel genuinely taken care of.
The hotel was clean, comfortable, and very well maintained. We really appreciated the warm hospitality and would happily stay here again.
Thank you, Sarah and Leslie!!!
Came down from LA for the weekend. Hotel right on the edge of Gaslamp District and short walk to Little Italy.
Joe was awesome at checking and made sure we were oriented and had our questions answered.
Clean, wonderfully appointed. Only negative was the hefty parking fee.
Very elegant clean and comfortable
Beautiful hotel! As well as super friendly service, Joe from the front desk was especially accommodating, making extra effort to ensure our stay is welcoming.
Eric is absolutely amazing! He goes above and beyond in his service and is truly appreciated. Thank you Eric!
In Gratitude,

We stayed at The Westgate Hotel for one night and had an excellent experience. The level of service was exceptional, and Sarah and Sophia in particular made a meaningful impact on our stay. Their thoughtful recommendations enhanced our visit and were greatly appreciated.
Our room was spacious, well-appointed, and offered an excellent view of downtown, which made the stay even more enjoyable. The bar provided a sophisticated atmosphere with well-crafted drinks, and the pool area was equally impressive — beautifully maintained and relaxing.
Although our stay was brief, it was seamless and memorable from beginning to end. We would gladly return and highly recommend The Westgate Hotel to others visiting San Diego.
Sarah and Sophia were excellent! Gave us a fantastic room with a great view. Assisted us in business center, stores our luggage after checkout as we were headed to see a show at Civic Ctr. Overall, smooth and memorable-in a great way!
This place is Awesome! The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The food and service in the restaurant is amazing and the hotel itself is Beautiful.
We highly recommend and we will stay here anytime we are in San Diego.
I’m not sure where to start, but we had a great 3 night stay this week at the Westgate San Diego. Every staff member we encountered was kind, helpful, and professional. We chose this place because after years of loyalty to a large brand, we are tired of overpaying for declining experiences. The Westgate was surprisingly affordable for this area. Our double double room was spacious, well appointed, and comfortable. The bathroom was roomy and so cute. Everything was beautiful. The beds were comfortable and the linens were all amazing quality. The valet parking is efficiently run. Housekeeping is amazing. We had busy days while we were in town and each day we returned, exhausted, to beds perfectly made and everything so tidy. The water pressure is the best we’ve ever encountered. My daughter and I felt safe, pampered, and plan to return. Oh! And I don’t want to go without mentioning our great room service experience. I ordered a simple breakfast our first morning. It was delicious, affordable, and FAST! I was especially grateful for the amazing coffee!
