We have enjoyed several stays at this hotel in the past, but clearly this time the hotel was having major staffing problems along with showing major signs of wear and tear.
Our room though cozy had an easy chair that I sat in and needed to get my partner to pull me out as the springs are totally gone; the chairs in the dining room were in a similar state.
We were with our friends so we were a group of eight people and had major problems with dinners in the dining room and sent food back several times.
There were also issues with the person on the front desk as they were obviously inebriated with alcohol.
The whole experience made me very sad as we’ve had such wonderful times there in the past; hopefully they can take this feedback and get the hotel back up to the level. It needs to be to be competitive with all of the hostelries in the area.
Lovely hotel, would stay again, the only gripe I had was that the service in the restaurant lacked attention, quite slow and no one checking how you were or if you needed more drinks etc.
The Hotel is set in such a peaceful position overlooking the harbour. You must try the Pizza from their own wood burning pizza oven, sit with a pint and a pizza enjoying the tranquil view.
The staff are brilliant and the service superb.
Excellent hotel in an excellent position overlooking the harbour. Food was excellent especially the breakfast. Will definitely look to stay again. The only downside is parking if you arrive on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon as the hotel shares the local car park, it can get very busy so you may have problems parking when you arrive.

The location and setting was very pleasing. Our room was comfortable and spacious. The view from our window was beautiful.
Ideal for a mini break, great locations nearby.
Amazing stay and lovely friendly staff
Only one Malt Whiskey, Only one Cognac, Manager did not seem interested in our desire for choice; I have a better bar at home. Pretentious thogh tasty food. Small drab room with depresssing colour scheme, bare walls ~ no pictures.
A very presentable property, lovely location and really excellent food.
We have stayed there many times before in the past but it has taken a big step up 👍👍
Beautiful location. Very dog friendly. We had a king size room overlooking the harbour. It was up a few flights of stairs but this was not an issue for us. Use of guest pantry which was a lovely touch. Very good breakfast menu. All staff were very friendly and helpful.
Hotel was comfortable well decorated with great views and amazing staff
We love this hotel. It was our 4th visit in 4 years and it does not disappoint!
The area around it is perfect for a slowed down weekend getaway full of fresh air good food and comfort.
You can eat in other locations at the Weir or walk up to Porlock (bit of a long hill) or walk across to Bossington (6 mile round trip across the bay). However the pizzas on the Terrace are really great with a cider to watch the sun go down.
Great stay, warm and friendly staff.
Fabulous place to stay. THE most dog friendly hotel we have ever stayed at. Highly recommended
Absolutely lovely. Staff, service, room, food. Couldn't fault a thing.
Charming Harbour side Hotel. Nice friendly staff and good food. Well situated on the SW Coast Path,
The staff were very helpful but in the background quietly looking after their guests.
Great hotel, no kids so nice and quiet a brilliant place for grown up people
