Location and Character Can’t Make Up for the Many Shortfalls
Pros:

The historical character of the building was appreciated , and the location is excellent. Security guards were present throughout the night, which was reassuring. The room included a mini fridge, the bed was comfortable, and an extra duvet comforter was provided. Water pressure shower was also good.

Cons:

The walls are paper thin, making it easy to hear other guests in their rooms. Upon entering, I was hit with an overwhelming smell of chemicals and artificial floral aerosol — likely an attempt to mask cigarette smoke coming from the carpet.
The room itself had several maintenance issues: a broken towel rack, a sink that drained poorly, and significant buildup on the showerhead and handles. Adding to the frustration, the flimsy do not disturb signs constantly fall off due to the shape of the door handle and lack of lamination.
Aside for the small Niagara water bottles the front desk may offer upon check in, water was nearly impossible to come by. The vending machine had run out of bottled water, and the main lobby water station was frequently unavailable due to a lack of cups — leaving guests with no way to purchase or refill water at all. It’s also worth noting that what was advertised and referred to by the front desk staff, as the “Hotel’s water station,” was, in reality, a small water cooler tucked inside the tiny gym. To make matters worse, there is no convenience store on the property to purchase food, drinks, or toiletries, except for the understocked vending machines located in the basement.
For the price paid, the lack of basic amenities and upkeep, and cleanliness was absolutely unacceptable. All this isn’t worth historical appreciation .
