Husband and I just met friends at The Cliffside Inn for a few days of Newport sightseeing. We chose the Cliffside because of it's charm but also because of its proximity to the cliff walk and the mansions.
For some reason, we all mistakenly thought that the inn faced the ocean. It does not, as there are a few houses between the inn and the cliff walk. But that didn't temper our enthusiasm about our stay there. The interior of the inn is absolutely charming. We lived in London for years, and the decor of the inn reminded us of the many British countryside manor house inns we used to frequent. Our bedroom (the Sun Room) was really lovely and bright with the big bay window seating area providing views of the water. The room was very clean and comfortable, and the shower had great water pressure. I would choose this room again.
But what really elevated our stay was the wonderful service and the attention to detail. The staff tended to every need yet remained stealthily behind the scenes to give guests their space. They regularly checked in by text to make sure we had everything we needed (we did!). Every evening, they offered complimentary wine and hors d'oevres in the parlor. And every morning they laid out a gracious spread of breakfast goodies, such as blueberry or banana bread, granola, yogurt, frittata, fruits and more (all included in the price of your room). Overall, it was a really wonderful experience. My only regret is that we didn't stay longer. But that just makes me more excited to return again soon!
The location close to the mansions and the cliff walk. Breakfast was nice and the main house is very pretty.
Our room was in the extra little cottage, people upstairs were noisy and the floor is not well insulated. Air conditioning was difficult to control, the door was a little difficult to lock and the inside needs a bit of maintenance.
We had the Loft room which was lovely, spacious and cosy all at the same time. We enjoyed the complimentary wine and cheese at 5.
It was all good. I guess I would’ve liked an earlier breakfast because we had to leave around 7 and missed it.
This little inn was amazing. Steps from the cliff walk and very walkable into the main town, restaurants and bars nearby too. We loved the breakfast each morning, the decor and cleanliness were unbeatable. We loved our stay! No notes!

Tell me beforehand we are up 2 flights of stairs--I will pack in satchels, not a suitcase. No good reading lights anywhere.
The staff was very warm and welcoming. The surroundings were so cozy. You really felt like you were home away from home. And it was so close to the water. It was just beautiful.
The Cliffside Inn location near the Cliff Walk and walking distance to the mansions cannot be beat. The Inn provides a subtle immersion experience with the parlor and bedroom decor. Enjoy the evening sitting around the backyard gas firepit while enjoying an included glass of wine with bunnies prancing the grounds or breakfast on a sun-filled porch with birdsong surrounding your peaceful stay.
The host was great.
There were two "corporate" ladies roaming the property the entire time, basically "haunting" the entire property with a really negative and intrusive presence. We wanted to use one of the parlors, for example, for morning coffee by the fire and one of them was on a video call to corporate with the door shut. We felt like we were intruding on someone's office that was working in our vacation space. SUPER ANNPYING. Corporate folks training local employees should remain in the background. We were not impressed by their presence.
