The first impression was that it wasn't so bad for the price. Room appeared clean.
Woke up from a nap to see the floor swarming in roaches.
Nothing
Everything
The front desk employee Brenda definitely makes my stay comfortable with Great customer service and communication! Location is a bit sketchy (Newport News standard) but feels comparatively safe and has a lot of shopping options nearby.
Nothing at all
Everything. The front desk clerk was rude and didn’t have any logical reasons why their hotel was full and my rooms were given away. Was even told reservations don’t mean anything
My stay at Extended Stay America Oyster Point was truly a blessing.
I checked in on June 2 after experiencing ongoing harassment, belittlement, and false accusations at another Extended Stay location—situations that eventually became serious enough to involve the Newport News court system.
When I arrived at Oyster Point, I had just spent three hours waiting outside for my ride. I was frustrated, embarrassed, and ashamed. However, from the moment I walked through the doors, the staff welcomed me with open arms.
The young lady at the front desk, who is expecting a baby any day now, was my first encounter and perhaps the most impactful. She immediately reassured me that everything would be okay and made me feel safe and valued.
The next morning, I had the pleasure of meeting Christiana. Her smile, kindness, and hospitality speak for themselves. Those qualities cannot be taught—they are simply who she is, and I believe she is exactly who God intended her to be.
Later that afternoon, I met the person who helps keep Extended Stay America Oyster Point running smoothly and professionally. Frances is the perfect balance of strong leadership and genuine compassion. She maintains a business mindset while treating everyone with respect and dignity. When Frances speaks, you know she means business, but her firm approach is matched by a caring heart. It is easy to see leadership qualities in her, and I would not be surprised to see her become a General Manager one day.
To the three individuals I mentioned above—thank you.
To maintenance, housekeeping, the overnight staff, and those who answer calls after hours—thank you as well.
I was going through one of the darkest and most difficult periods of my life, and your kindness, compassion, and professionalism gave me hope when I needed it most.
Thank you, Extended Stay America Oyster Point, located in the heart of Newport News, for reminding me that there are still good people in this world.

Everything
The staff was nice
I originally booked 5 days but only stayed one night. I was charged for my original booking and an additional days stay. I was told I would be refunded my money, however, I was overcharged.
The other hotel that I was forced to get.
Paid to secure room no room secured.
ZERO STARS if I could... This experience needs to serve as a warning to others—DO NOT stay at Extended Stay America in Newport News-Oyster Point, Virginia unless you’re willing to risk dealing with a bed bug infestation. My son (who traveled across states to get to this hotel for a new job beginning on 4/20/26) discovered what was clearly a serious issue 2 nights in, with pictures and video evidence to support it. The overnight front desk employee that he spoke with on 4/22/26 was incredibly kind, compassionate, and professional. She acknowledged the bed bug problem immediately, helped check my son out, and even assisted with his laundry to prevent bringing anything with him.
Unfortunately, the situation took a horrible turn on Thursday, April 23, 2026 when the manager; Brenda, refused to properly address the issue or refund the 3 night stay. Despite clear evidence, Brenda was rude, dismissive, and defiant—hiding behind “policy” and claiming she needed a remediation company's confirmation before issuing any refund. Her complete lack of customer care, accountability, and basic professionalism was appalling. Bed bugs are a serious health and safety concern, and dismissing guests this way is UNACCEPTABLE. Brenda acted like were we complaining of a cold breakfast. Brenda does not possess the skills necessary to be in charge of a hotel like this. Thank you to my son's company for being able to secure a refund as he nor I could not. Hopefully, Brenda enjoys the corporate complaint, this public review, and the upcoming visit from the Department of Health.
Close to where I had to go
Quiet no wild parties or smell of drugs
The location made me feel uncomfortable and unsafe upon check-in. This should have immediately sent me out the door but had travelled for 11 hours and was exhausted. However, when I got to my room, I decided to stay the night but move to another hotel the next day. I contacted the front desk that night and said I would be checking out the next day early and was informed I'd receive a refund minus the night I stayed plus early check out fee which seemed reasonable. This was my first stay in Newport News, and I was here for training for a week so was glad this had been resolved. I have yet to receive a refund and have consistently contacted the motel for updates. The manager said she had to contact the regional manager, and I still do not know if I will receive a refund or the status. Apparently, they charged me for the entire stay which I had not anticipated nor wanted, and I trusted the employees to stand by their word of a refund and updates. I have stayed in hotels all over the country and am usually charged for the stay at the end. Anyhow, beware of this motel!!!!!!! Read all the reviews beforehand!!!!!
The staff was great, so accommodating and friendly! Brenda the manager on site is so sweet and went above and beyond for us and our extended stay experience! We will definitely refer all friends and family to the oyster point ESA and we cannot thank all of you enough!!
