Great Location, but just Okay!
Pros:

Location is excellent. Lots of shops and restaurants in walking distance. Hotel housekeeping not very good as we had so ask for basic supplies on a daily basis. For example, coffee, coffee cups, tissues, toilet paper, towels. Quality of towels for this type of hotel was lacking. Some of the towels were stained and worn out. Towels needed to be replaced.

Any Downtown SD Stay will Improve with the Manchester Grand Hyatt!
Pros:

The location was great with ample opportunities to engage in activities and events. The atmosphere of the hotel was welcoming and beautiful. The room was excellent: clean, beautiful, and comfortable. The cleanliness was excellent so that I felt at ease the whole stay. The noise level was non-existent. The service was top-notch and everyone anticipated any need.

Great location and that’s it
Pros:

Did not accommodate any prior requests, room took over 6 hours to prepare, pool and hot tub were cloudy, complimentary activities are one per room, lobby bathroom smelled.

Great Experience
Pros:

My stay was very good. The hotel was comfortable, well maintained, and the service was great, as you would expect from Hyatt.

I accidentally left one of my belongings after checking out, and the hotel staff was incredibly helpful and supportive in helping me recover it. I really appreciated how responsive and kind they were throughout the process.

There is also a bar on the top floor where you can enjoy an amazing view of the city while having a drink — definitely worth visiting.

The area around the hotel is beautiful as well, right next to the port with lovely boutiques and delicious restaurants within walking distance.

Overall, Hyatt was excellent as always. I would definitely stay here again.

Pros:

Everything was great except for lunch and dinner which could have been better as the meals were very plain and usually not warm.

Not really a facility I would choose if left to my own devices...
Pros:

I was there for an industry conference. Overpriced and under delivered. The staff was fantastic. The facility works well for large events, but the rooms and decor are dated. Neat new elevator key access systems...

Great for romantic anniversary!
Pros:

We arrived and were given a complimentary upgrade to a new renovated bay view room! We stayed for our 7th anniversary and loved that there were a lot of great restaurants near by and everything was in walking distance or you could take the trolley. We ended our night in the jacuzzi and a nightcap from the hotel bar at the top of the building where there's a great view of San Diego.

Surprise fees and maintenance issues
Pros:

Cool hotel, great staff, fantastic location. However, my big issue is that there were over $100 in taxes and fees per night above the quoted nightly rate that were not disclosed to us until check-in. We budgeted for a certain price that we were given when booking, and suddenly the real price was way higher than we expected and it was already too late to change our plans. Maybe every hotel of this type in this area does this, who knows. Other small issues included: extremely dirty windows that diminished the otherwise great views, broken A/C (which was fixed after a day), broken pool heater and broken hot tub, and the gym being closed due to a leak. Even more small frustrations but you get the gist of it.

I would give the Manchester Grand Hyatt a 6 out of 5 stars if I could.
Pros:

This hotel was truly one of the nicest places I’ve ever stayed. Everything was exceptionally clean, well maintained, and the service was outstanding. If you’re planning a trip to San Diego, I highly recommend considering the Manchester Grand Hyatt.
The location is fantastic—right by the bay and within walking distance of great restaurants, shopping, the USS Midway Museum, and the Gaslamp District. You can easily explore some of San Diego’s best attractions without ever needing a car.

Not the Stay I Booked or Expected
Pros:

I recently stayed at this hotel while attending a work conference. Overall, the stay was just okay, but there were several issues that made it disappointing—especially given the price.

When I checked in, I was informed that my room was not ready and was placed in a room with two double beds. I had specifically booked a king room. I checked in alongside six other individuals from my group, and all of them either received their reserved king rooms or were upgraded to a higher-level king room at no additional cost. Unfortunately, I was the only one not accommodated as booked.

In addition, the air conditioning in my room was extremely poor. Despite setting the thermostat to 65 degrees, the room remained uncomfortably hot throughout my entire stay, making it difficult to rest.

For the price paid, I expected better consistency in room assignments and basic comfort standards. While the stay was not terrible, it did not meet expectations, and I left feeling unsatisfied.

Excellent Stay — Beautiful Hotel, Great Service, and Fantastic Facilities
Pros:

I recently stayed at the Gran Hyatt hotel and had a wonderful experience. The building is beautiful and full of character, and the staff were consistently attentive, friendly, and professional.
The food was delicious, and the service throughout the hotel was excellent. I was also very impressed with the conference and meeting rooms — they were spacious, comfortable, and very well equipped, making them perfect for business events.
A special highlight was the complimentary Wi‑Fi and the free bottled water provided in the room. After moving to another hotel where I didn’t receive even a glass of water and had no internet access, I appreciated these thoughtful touches even more.
Overall, this hotel exceeded my expectations, and I highly recommend it for both business and leisure stays. I would happily return.

Great Hotel experience.
Pros:

Everything about my stay was exceptional. The staff and front desk agents were professional, welcoming, and incredibly helpful throughout my visit. Their attentiveness truly enhanced the overall experience.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would absolutely return. I would also love the opportunity to partner in the future to provide content reviews, if that is something you would ever consider.

Thank you for such a wonderful experience!

Meh.
Pros:

Stayed Feb 14–20, 2026 on points (20K/night + SUA). Cash rates were hovering around $425/night or nearly $900 for a standard suite, which honestly felt laughable given the current state of the property — though it was sold out, so clearly people are either burning points or booking on corporate rates.

The hotel is heavily under renovation, even if they try to keep most of it “behind the scenes.” The Harbor Tower and sports courts are actively being worked on, and you feel it. The Seaport Tower, lobby, lounge, club, and event spaces have been refreshed, but the contrast between renovated and unrenovated areas is stark. The older floors feel dated and musty — that lingering, impossible-to-ignore hotel smell that signals a property well past its prime.

Service was probably the biggest letdown. Nothing overtly bad, just completely transactional. Employees across valet and the club in particular felt like they were going through the motions. No warmth, no personalization — very much a “process you and move on” vibe. Housekeeping was consistent daily, which I’ll give credit for, but that was about the extent of the service highlight reel.

The club itself is squarely mid. Fine for breakfast or a light early evening snack, but not memorable. The $3–4 beer and wine pricing is reasonable, but that’s doing a lot of the heavy lifting in terms of perceived value. Food quality and variety were just okay.

Our standard suite was spacious, and the two bathrooms were a genuine plus — functional for families or longer stays — but it didn’t feel like a luxury suite experience given the rest of the property context.

There are also glaring areas still needing renovation — the pool and Top of the Hyatt feel especially overdue. Until those get addressed, the property feels incomplete.

This place could absolutely be a knockout San Diego hotel if three things happened: warmer service, full renovation completion, and a legitimately upgraded club experience (the last one feels unlikely). If it stays a Category 5, it’ll retain solid points value — but that’s doing a lot of the work.

Verdict: I’d personally drive the extra 30–40 minutes to stay at the oceanfront The Seabird Ocean Resort & Spa — newer rooms, better service, better dining — and revisit once the Grand Hyatt renovation is actually finished. If you need a central San Diego location, can confirm a renovated room, and are booking on points, it’s acceptable. Just don’t expect it to wow you.
