The decor, common areas, value, helpfulness of staff.
I wish the roof deck and the bar area was open past 9:00 PM. There was no coffee or version of creamer in the room, only tea. The room had items for sale, but no way to open them, ie bottle opener in the room. That elevator! These were small issues, as overall I was happy here.
I loved the style of the hotel. He antique look.
Unfortunately as cool the old elevator is.. it’s pretty unpractical having to wait in line to get in. I basically walked down from 10 floor to skip the line. At least repair the second one.
The aesthetic is nice as well as the staff.
The location and how loud it is.
This is one of my favourite hotels ever. From the moment you walk in, you notice the cool, quirky decor and little touches like the sweet jar in the lobby, the “charming” vintage elevator and the monogrammed cushions on the beds. The rooftop bar is small but lovely as well. The location is great, in the Gaslamp district surrounded by places to eat, drink and be entertained.
My one gripe is the lack of power points in the room. I had to charge my phones and laptop in the bathroom. Maybe this is less of a problem in the larger rooms.
Location was perfect, right in the center of Gaslamp Quarter. Noise at night due to partying in the neighborhood was to be expected. We especially liked the hotel's concept of preserving the style of a past epoch (design elements, etc.)
Only two elevators in an 11 story building. One elevator was permanently out of order, the other had to be repaired more than once every day. It seems like the "elevator engineer" was always in the building. Not funny, climbing the stairs, carrying baggage. Especially with an injured leg.
But worst of all were those stains on one of the pillows and on the bathing towels.
Staff seemed quit preoccupied with themselves.
In general, it seems that in the hotel industry, prices are constantly rising while service is constantly getting worse.
Great stay, a little loud at night being in the middle of the nightlife but that didn’t really bother me. Well designed place with great access to downtown San Diego
The location and the price for that is very good
I asked for toilet paper and a towel at the reception, after 20 minutes I asked again and then finally someone came... because we only stay 4 nights we dont have (we also dont really need) the room cleaning service but we asked that we get the (only one small) trash bin emtied... "no problem" she said... well 2 days later the trash bin is still full, we use a paper bag now and I wont ask again to be honest.
The closet is full with snacks and candy that you need to pay for and it's waisting a tone of space.
Fridge is also completely full with no space for your own things like fruits and not even one free bottle of water.
But the worst thing is the AC pointed DIRECTLY on the bed... If you want to catch a cold, that the place to be.
Very close to the Convention Center
