The hotel staff were very kind and accommodating. The valet service was fast.
The restaurant staff were a little bit rude. We didn’t appreciate their remarks on us returning to eat as hotel guests 2x in one day.
This review is for the Afternoon Tea experience.
MissionI Inn's Afternoon Tea is the worst I've experienced.
I paid for 2 people and we were just served with 1 tea set and 1 of each sandwiches and pastries. I attached our picture to emphasize the set we were served to what I paid for 2 people.
The server, Arturo, was rushing into everything specially on pushing us out of the restaurant.
My reservation is from 2pm to 3:30pm and by 3:30pm I was already in the freeway driving home very disappointed and upset.
Do not waste your money here. Spend $20 more and go to Langham in Pasadena for a way better experience, food and tea selections.
Even Hello Kitty cafe's Afternoon Tea is way better for a cheaper price.
I totally regret trying out their Afternoon Tea. I was thinking of recommending them to friends but not anymore.
Their Afternoon Tea experience totally ruined Mission Inn for me as a whole.
I used to love this place. I've stayed here and dined many times. That's why I decided to try the Afternoon Tea.
It was such a waste of time and money.
Take your money to Langham or Hello Kitty Cafe instead and you will not go home disappointed and upset.
I don't understand the appeal of this hotel. It's dirty, the rooms are so neglected and the front desk staff (esp PBX operator) are so unfriendly. I've stayed her a handful of times over the past few years - including this week. The rooms are always in disrepair - faucets leak, dispensers hang off wall, coffee maker dirty, etc. Housekeeping services are not reliable (this week was out all day only to come back to unserviced room). When I called to see if I could get service, Miranda (the operator) said she'd 'add me to the list.' When I asked if that meant I'd get service, she said, "I have no control over that. All I can do is put you on the list." I don't think they do a good job of cleaning here (see photo of ceiling above bed). On a positive note - the valet staff is awesome!
Beautiful hotel--poor communication from telephone booking agent; she should have told us to get an interior room as I asked for a quiet room-- our room location was not good--right over the plaza--noise till 2 AM!
However, the beds were very comfortable. And the desk agents were very helpful when we checked in and out (and then told us that we should have asked for an interior room and/or over the pool--not over the street).
Also quite pricy!
Dinner in the Cantina was good.
Such a fun place. It feels a little like a haunted castle with fun nooks and crannies, and over-the-top architecture. The location is 1 1/2 blocks to the convention center and on the Main street pedestrian area making it very convenient for attending a conference. All the employees were very friendly and the beds are VERY comfortable.
We wanted to like this eclectic old inn but it did not give us any reasons to. The staff was not friendly or helpful. The room felt outdated and noisy. And there is zero heat. And the wifi does not work. Shampoo dispenser has been used and reused so the label is falling off. Dishes are left in the hallway for days. And the resort fee? A grab to raise our room rate, which already was higher than the quality of the rooms. Stop in and wander, then stay elsewhere, at least until this place gets a new owner or new management.
Beautiful hotel. Staff was very friendly and dinner at Duane’s was excellent. Only downside was the air-conditioning cycled between 60° and 75°. We were tossing and turning most of the night.
Despite its reputation as a historic and elegant hotel, our experience was deeply disappointing due to extremely poor service. From the moment we checked in, problems began to surface. The door to our room would not lock properly, which made us feel unsafe and uncomfortable throughout our stay. We reported this issue, but it was not handled with the urgency one would expect from a hotel of this caliber. In addition, housekeeping failed to service our room, even after we specifically requested it. Towels were not replaced, and the room was left unattended for the day. While the building itself is beautiful and full of charm, the lack of basic service and attention to guest concerns overshadowed any positive aspects. Sadly, the service did not match the hotel’s historic reputation or price point.
The Mission Inn is an absolutely gorgeous property. Each room is unique. Overall we had a good experience during our stay (although I echo other reviewers sentiments regarding archaic WiFi and some bathroom issues. Some updating of certain amenities (or lack thereof) is needed).
I do not recommend purchasing a gift card from this hotel. Because of the beauty of this hotel, I purchased one as a wedding gift. When the newlyweds attempted to reserve a room, they were unable to redeem the gift card online. Next, they called the hotel to redeem the gift card and reserve the room and learned to redeem the gift card, The Mission Inn requires the guest to prepay the entire room charge (not just a security or incidental charge) with a credit card. This full amount is then refunded upon check-in, when the physical gift card is presented. What a pointless hassle. I would never purchase a gift card and put my recipient through this again. I think the hotel should reconsider offering gifts cards if they must operate in such a manner. Poor business practice. Update your systems!
No in room srvice
The beautiful Christmas lights everywhere! The decorations were amazing. If you get a chance check out the chapel and other floors. Lots of photo opportunities!
