Originally they put us in a room next to the nightly luau. It was a little loud for my husband. The next day we asked if we could be moved since we were there all week. The front staff was very accommodating and moved us with such a wonderful view of the ocean. Staff was friendly and the view and pool were amazing.
Everything about the Sheraton Coconut Beach was top-notch—beautiful location, clean rooms, and great pools. But I want to give a special shoutout to Lissa for her outstanding service. She was incredibly helpful, friendly, and embodied the true Aloha spirit. Her hospitality made our trip seamless and memorable. 5/5 stars and highly recommended!
Stayed late June 2026. This isn't a resort I'd return to.
**The Good:** Staff was accommodating. Chicken strips from the food option were solid. Kids loved the complimentary shaved ice.
**The Not So Good:** Property is dated throughout. Bathrooms look/feel old and unclean, Shower amenities minimal. The "Infinity" pool was very much 'finite', and at times was full and you couldnt just open swim. Pool was also not heated, at times sun heated it up but usually was pretty cold. Game room arcade equipment was broken/unmaintained. Beach was visible but access to water was limited and not so safe. We never went into the water from resort instead had to go to other public beaches to have out kids play in the open waters
SIDE NOTE ABOUT FEES: Between resort fee ($45/day), self-parking ($20/day), and multiple tax lines, you're paying **$74.36/day** in mandatory add-ons on top of the room rate. Fees are unavoidable, BUT should at least have safe access to beach waters and working equipment.
**Bottom line:** The pool is small and beach access is not safe — we ended up having to drive to other beaches to actually get in the water. For a resort charging $65/night specifically tied to "resort" amenities, that's a real gap between what you're paying for and what you get.
We recently stayed at this hotel and, unfortunately, it was not the experience we had hoped for. The hotel itself is nothing special, and we would not choose to stay here again.
The staff members were pleasant and polite, but service felt minimal and employees did not go out of their way to assist guests. One of the biggest disappointments was the beach access. While the hotel is oceanfront, the waves are extremely rough, making it unsafe and impractical to swim or enjoy the water directly from the property.
The pool area could also use much better upkeep. Dirty plates and cups were frequently left around the pool for hours before being cleaned up. In addition, many of the sun shades were torn with noticeable holes, and the property overall feels dated and in need of a significant remodel.
The one major advantage of this hotel is its central location, which makes it convenient for exploring different parts of the island. However, if we were to visit Kauai again, we would absolutely choose to stay in Hanalei instead. The scenery, beaches, and overall atmosphere there are far more memorable and align much better with the Hawaiian experience we were looking for.
The best thing this hotel has going for it is its location. Kapaa is ideally situated between the island’s north and west shores, making it easy to explore all the major attractions without spending too much time in the car.
The pool area is nice and well-maintained, and we never had trouble finding lounge chairs. The hotel also has a game room with pool tables and other activities that both kids and adults can enjoy. The beach, however, is more for scenery than swimming. Between the rocks, strong waves, and the protective barrier offshore, it's not really suitable for getting in the water.
As a Titanium Elite member, I found the benefits to be underwhelming. I was initially told I would receive a complimentary breakfast buffet, but after returning to my table, my server informed me that the benefit only covered fruit and pastries. There were no other Elite benefits at all.
The rooms are quite small, as are the balconies. Fortunately, we were on the top floor, where the vaulted ceilings helped make the space feel more open. I imagine the rooms on the lower floors may feel even more cramped.
The staff was consistently friendly and accommodating throughout our stay. However, if you're a frequent Marriott guest looking for a full-service resort experience with meaningful elite benefits, this property may not meet your expectations. It's a solid option for its location and as a base for exploring the island, but it falls short of what many travelers would consider a true resort experience.
Room was a good size and clean and resort and eating facilities good. Well equipped fitness centre. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Room outlook did have a view of the ocean but not as pictured on booking com and anticipated and the outside area just about allows room for the two chairs and table and required moving to get in or out of the doors.
If negative stars were an option, this place would still find a way to overcharge me for them. This hotel had me checking my reservation every five minutes to make sure I didn’t accidentally book a social experiment.
The experience started going downhill the moment I dealt with the front desk manager Micah. He was unbelievably unprofessional, dismissive, and acted like helping guests was an inconvenience. Instead of trying to resolve issues, he seemed more interested in making excuses. I’ve dealt with bad customer service before, but this was on another level.
The only employees who actually deserve any credit are the valet and luggage crew. They were friendly, professional, and honestly the only people who seemed to care about guests.
The one redeeming quality of this place has nothing to do with the hotel itself: the monk seals on the beach. Watching them was the highlight of the entire stay. It’s pretty sad when the local wildlife provides better hospitality than the hotel staff.
Save your money and stay somewhere else. You’re paying for disappointment with a nice view.
Resort had the quiet, laid-back type of vibe we were looking for. Great amenities, beautiful oceanfront room with balcony close to the beach and a nice pool/spa area. The hammocks and beach chairs are a must do. The resort is in a great location for exploring the other parts of the island and parking was plentiful. Ordered room service since we already had the best seats the hotel.
Barbara and her team were amazing to work with. I work for a non-profit organization that serves veterans, first responders and their spouses that hosted a weekend cohort gathering. Barbara made it easy and seamless assisting in coordinating the weekend. I'd highly recommend this location to anyone for it's proximity to everything and the friendliness of all the staff. You can also check out bikes to cruise the bike paths, to umbrellas and beach chairs for the day, which we took up for a day to Hanalei Bay. It's small but impactful, I appreciated their reef safe sunscreen dispenser by the pool restrooms.
The hotel is great but they nitpick for every last bit with fees on this and that. Great area with a nice pool but the hotel has some signs of serious wear and tear. Decent enough but feel like there are other options for the same price point...
Great staff and modern hotel with good amenities. We loved the pool and the cabana, and balconies on each room made enjoying the ocean view easier. Clean rooms, easy parking and good activities at the hotel.
The beach in front of the hotel is beautiful but not safe for swim due to undertow.
Our 10 day stay at the Sheraton was fantastic. The 2 queen oceanfront worked out well for us. It will be even better when the king oceanfront rooms are renovated. Front desk staff to include Cedric and Vergie were always willing to help out and solve minor problems efficiently and to our satisfaction. The whole valet team helped a great deal with my husband’s wheelchair both storing it and loading it in the car. Best of all was the great work of housekeeping - Ms. Nidia deserves a raise. Also, grateful to the coffee team at Starbucks-they delivered with a smile. We enjoyed our time at this lovely, well-run Sheraton and will be back!!
