The room was spacious and had a view of the footy oval for the historic Tassie Devil first VFL game.
Had a nightmare experience from the moment we arrived. The hotel had cancelled our original booking despite already taking the money, and Booking.com still showed everything as confirmed. We didn’t get the same room, and the receptionist showed zero empathy — honestly felt like she had no idea what she was doing. I even had to be the one to ask whether they’d consider offering a credit since the replacement room wasn’t equivalent. It only had a pedestal fan, no split system. How is that even acceptable.
Breakfast was average at best — just the basics with bacon and sausages as meat options. Don’t bother asking for different eggs unless you want to be charged extra. The hotel is rated 3 stars for a reason, and it definitely lived up to that. Wouldn’t recommend it for first‑time travellers to Hobart unless you’re literally just there to watch the footy.
To top it off, you have to pay for laundry, and the machines look like they belong in a museum — barely maintained and ancient.
And just when I thought it couldn’t get more ridiculous, at checkout they expected me to pay the $2 difference between the room‑service charge and the credit they’d given for putting us in the wrong room. After everything, they still chased two dollars.
Excellent
location was great 5 min drive to the harbour and shops great breakfast
TV are really old and I could not connect to watch TV. Had to use my phone.supef helpful and lovely staff.
Old TV and internet not very good for laptop so could not do any work.
Courtesy bus needed and elevator
As above
loved the old style, it was clean and the furniture was lovely
not the most comfy bed
Comfortable, plenty of room, quiet and clean.
Nice restaurant and bar
Loved the view from the room over the football oval and that it wasnt looking at another building. Loved the antiques and the stairwells
I felt some of the furniture (not the antiques) were past their useby date - the couch for instance had a lot of cracking through the vinyl. Random cheap furniture not in keeping with the rest
Very nice facilities
Great location and lovely building. Nice history and good to see original features retained. Good size room and comfortable bed. Good breakfast and dinner menu. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Staff were lovely, room was spacious and comfortable.
It's not an ideal location - about a 30 min walk into the CBD. The area does have lots of nice cafes though!
Check in staff were not friendly and also gave incorrect answers to questions resulting in my elderly father being given a room that only had access to toilets by stairs.
Not much. The bed was old and pretty.
After a trip around Tasmania we decided to book a 1 bedroom suite at the Rydges Hobart. It seemed to have good reviews and we like the fact it was a historic building. However, it was not to be the beautiful stay we had envisioned. There is no lift so it was a matter of hiking suitcases up the stairs yourselves. The suite we had was roadside looking across rubbish bins and the bedroom had a view of a brick wall. The room you arrive in I guess was supposed to be the dining room but it was a weird set up with an old round table with polish pealing off surrounded by four chairs with cracked leather seats. One of the windows had a huge crack right across the glass. The lounge area was even worse, an old vinyl sofa that looked like it had been picked up off the verge with vinyl worn off, cracked had been covered with a throw to cover the disaster that sat below! The bedroom looked OK except the bedside table lamp was cheap and stained and then we lay on the bed, the mattress had a huge wallow in the middle and my partner and I were left clinging to the edges and trying to get some sleep. The bathroom had been badly renovated, the shower had no static head only a hand held one. The tiles on the floor were extremely slippery when wet and present a hazard. We had one facecloth to share and no hand towel. I have stayed in hostels that are of a better standard!
On top of all of the above there was a group of teenagers staying here for a sporting event however the person managing them seemed to be absent as they were running around and screaming like hooligans. Not what you expect in a hotel.
Do not stay here!
Location and room size
N/a
Room was large with separate sitting area. Free on site parking in a quiet location.
We didn't realise the room would have to be accessed from outside and up some concrete stairs, which when wet was a bit precarious.
Very good place to stay quiet clean and staff lovely and friendly
I think the it was a bit expensive for the room fir just 1 night
