Hotel is right on the sea front with excellent views across the bay. Has slightly old fashioned feel but opulent. Our room was front facing and on the corner so views to the pier as well as out to sea. Room very clean and tidy, included a fridge and sofa. All staff we came into contact with cheerful & friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was excellent and freshly cooked. We ate in the restaurant on 2 nights, food on both nights was excellent. Parking is free and plentiful. If you are looking for a hotel in Paignton would strongly recommend The Redcliffe.
This used to be one of our favourite hotels in the area. Living nearby, we often visit for coffee or lunch as a couple or with family and friends. Many stay there for a night or two due to its quirky, old fashioned atmosphere and very good service.
Today, we called in for lunch and were disappointed to see hardly anything on the menu to suit a vegan or vegetarian diet. Even though sandwiches were vaguely mentioned there was no more information. The menu indicates that the restaurant will accommodate special requests, such as vegetarian meals, but when asked, this was checked with the kitchen and declined.
I am aware that a new chef has been appointed, which probably explains the change of menu. May I ask that just two or three basic vegetarian/vegan items be available in future? Jacket potatoes, toasties, salads would be a start.
Also, the toilets used to be spotless. No longer. Lack of paper towels indicates irregular maintenance of these important facilities.
Admittedly, this is the autumn season, but we were saddened and disappointed to see how rapidly this hotel’s previous high quality has deteriorated. Maybe an over generous three star, based upon happier times.
One of the best kept secrets in the Bay, even though the rooms in the hotel are closed for an extensive refurbishment, the restaurant and pool are still open, and the place is so beautiful and the food and staff are absolutely fantastic. Even better to do their very good value dip and dine... or come for their delicious and very generous Sunday roasts with one of the best views in Devon!
Well situated hotel between Preston and Paignton beach excellent views friendly staff good breakfast and evening meal good facilities pool and gym
We have just had my 70th birthday meal in the Isadora Duncan Room for 18 guests. The food was delicious, nothing was too much trouble when sorting out the menu, even when changes were made to individual dishes. The staff from the chef to the waitresses, food and beverage team and office staff were exceptional and couldn't do enough for us. Thank you for making it so special.
Lovely room, great view of the beach.
Very clean and tidy, just what we needed for a weekend away for the Torbay half marathon.
Recommend.
Sunday lunch, obviously frozen vegetables reheated and tasteless. Dessert was lemon roulade which tasted of nothing. Staff were helpful though. I’d ordered gluten free cauliflower cheese but that never arrived
Overall I had a great four night stay. The restaurant/bar/lounge are lovely period rooms with great sea views. All the staff were very helpful (and mainly English). In the bedroom it was good that the windows could be opened (unlike in a lot of modern hotels). I'm very sensitive to noise but it was nice and quiet. A lot of the other hotels are on busy roads. The gym was average - fairly old equipment and didn't seem that clean. But a good sized room. However there were no exercise mats so had to lie on the carpet. Finally, minor complaint about breakfast but the vegetarian sausages were not good (they were basically tasteless deep fried vegetables) - most hotels serve quorn or soya sausages (which taste better and have some protein)
We have a lovey beach view room it had everything we needed, breakfast was lovely freshly made, the table with yogurts fruit and cereal was always well stocked up, staff were very friendly and helpful.
We had an email few days before saying there was a function on the night we got there but didn't hear a thing from them. Hotel was only a short walk from shops pubs etc.
We would definitely stay again.
Booked for the Spa and lunch. Swimming pool freezing cold , jacuzzi not working properly and the steam room too hot to stay in. While we sitting beside the pool a man came in and started throwing large amounts of powder into it and told us not to swim for a while!!!!! It was why we were there. Pool floor in need a of a good scrub.
Ordered lunch in the Ballroom which ages for a sandwich considering there were so few people in the hotel.
The salmon and cream cheese sandwich had thick stale brown bread - loads of white pickled shallots and and came with overcooked chips. Other guests had order the same sandwich and most left on their plates as we left .When I complained the staff carried the plate to the kitchen and then to the bar manager and eventually the hotel manager who were very offhand and eventually offered a small refund. We are locals who have many times before but never again
Very dated hotel dark and dingy our room was disgusting. The bed was so uncomfortable. I asked for a mattress stopper and they put on a mattress protection. She did nothing at all the outside pool that was disgusting. I know it was closed but there was a pigeon droppings everywhere Staff were fantastic. Very polite food was okay nothing special.
Older property, but clean and tidy. Great breakfast and great views of the sea from the dining room
Our second stay: superb foood, lovely staff, airy, spacious and attractive building, right on the sea with covered terrace and picnic tables, free secure parking, lovely bedroom with everything necessary, excellent value. So good we're going back again.
Outside needs a bit of an paint job
The hotel is situated in a fantastic location but it’s tired and need a lift.
The hotel is closing down for a revamp and I’m sure it will make a fantastic difference but it for me is ideal for what we want.
The room was clean and had a lovely view the staff was friendly but there was a awful smell of drains we stayed 3 days and the smell was there every morning the food used to be lovely good old English meals when the two brothers was there as chefs but now the food just isn't nice we were offered a bar meal we chose fish and chips the batter was almost black I couldn't eat it the breakfast wasn't much better my bacon was a clump instead of rashers inside it wasn't cooked it wasn't nice biggest mistake they ever made was getting rid of the brother chefs wouldn't recommend there food a
The hotel and facilities were good, more than I needed, not all of the staff were welcoming in their demeanour.
Excellent service. Comfortable room and ammenities.
Staff were excellent. Axana, Karen, Roger to name only a few.
I know the hotel is having a refurbishment very soon but l hope they keep up the same traditions they hold now. Breakfast served rather than buffets. Food was alway freshly cooked.
Clean rooms and some lovely views from the dining room and bar.
This is our 4th visit to the Redcliffe and we generally enjoy our stay as the staff and the service they give is always very good. The rooms are clean and comfortable, although we have noticed that they are becoming a bit tired and could do with some renovation. We know there are plans to do alterations in the coming months but also hope that it keeps it character. The food is always good , especially the breakfast, and the staff are always very attentive.
Everything as expected for a three star hotel
