It was an exceptional experience. I had arrived very early on a flight and was accommodated with an early check-in. The hotel was a very clean hotel with all the usual amenities. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I especially enjoyed the "Arms" restaurant where the atmosphere was inviting, the staff friendly and the food scrumdiddlyumptious!
We loved our second stay at The Lord Nelson Hotel & Suites in Halifax. It’s a beautiful historic hotel (since 1928) with that classic, old-school luxurious feel—grand lobby, elegant details, and timeless charm that stands out from modern chains.
The hotel is very clean, well-kept for its age, and the location right across from the Public Gardens is perfect—convenient and peaceful.
Staff are friendly overall, and we really liked the concierge—helpful and attentive.
We did have a few service issues this time:
• Called for an extra blanket the first night—never got it.
• Asked for an extra comforter the second night; they said they’d check and call back, but never did.
• Bedroom TV stopped working properly. Called the front desk twice with no answer, so I went down. They sent someone quickly, but it couldn’t be fixed then. They offered another room, but we couldn’t switch because my wife was recovering from surgery.
These were disappointing, but they didn’t ruin the stay. The elegant vibe, comfort, and history made it special.
We’d happily return and recommend it to anyone who wants character and luxury in a great downtown spot. 4 out of 5 stars.
I loved the classic look of the hotel; Rooms were smaller but better equipped than most hotels I've stayed in. We had a view of the public garden, and the best was so comfortable.
We booked a suite for one night at the Lord Nelson for a special occasion. The suite was lovely and actually nicer than we expected.
The staff gave us a warm welcome upon our arrival, wishing us a happy anniversary. We were more than pleasantly surprised to find a beautifully wrapped dessert, wine, chocolates, and a card in the room when we first entered. It was such a thoughtful and unexpected gesture that made our celebration feel even more special.
I would like to add: I loved the Nespresso coffee in the morning so much that we even drank the decaf!
We left feeling well cared for and grateful for the attention to detail. A memorable stay in a beautiful setting.
Beautiful atmosphere, friendly and accommodating staff.
Everything was awesome, sorry our stay got cut short due to weather , everytime i stay the experience is the best and the staff so helpful . Lord nelson is the best
Staying at the Lord Nelson was a relaxing experience in the middle of Halifax. The value was fantastic, food and in room service were great and the staff were always ready to help. The rooms were very clean and had small special touches like an in-room kettle and milk and cream. The parking was very easy and convenient. I will be staying here again.
I would totally recommend the Lord Nelson Hotel!!
From the moment you drive in the friendly helpful valet service/concierge to any of the hotel staff.
The housekeeping staff and front desk to the bar and restaurant The Arms…very pet friendly, even gave us a little doggy bag with waste bags and treats for our two dogs. The room was clean and spacious. It was what we needed. It was our 22nd wedding anniversary. We had a lovely stay thank you very much.
A special shout out to two staff members one being a man in overalls in the boiler room who helped my disabled husband with the elevator and luggage trolley and Styles in the bar of the restaurant.
A very good hotel close to major hospital facilities. Convenient indoor parking, local restaurants very supportive staff. Reasonable pricing.
A stay at the Lord Nelson never disappoints. Highly recommended. The staff and accommodations are first-rate. A convient location at the heart of Halifax.
Not impressed was supposed to get discounted and didn’t.i was up there because my son was rushed up there by helicopter .
We enjoyed our stay at The Lord Nelson. The room was spacious, clean, and the bed was comfortable. The staff was friendly and it was nice to have a restaurant on site. The location is perfect for downtown activities as most popular venues are within walking distance.
The location was of the Lord Nelson Hotel was ideal, situated near many attractions. The front desk was friendly and the hotel restaurant had good items for breakfast. I thought the room was nice; it had a king size bed which was comfortable and the shower pressure was very good. I didn’t like that there was no power near the bed and the bathroom door was always in the way. The motion activated doors throughout hotel were great! The underground parking was convenient, but at $28 per night, that is a very expensive convenience charge. If you are searching for the ice machines, they start on the 5th floor and above.
We stayed at the Lord Nelson and the air conditioning in the room didn’t seem to work very well. It was very hot and we couldn’t control it. Other than that, it was a great hotel. Very clean and smelled very nice. I will definitely try staying there again when in Halifax.
Very nice hotel. Lots of charm and character. Great meal in the restaurant. The staff go over and beyond to help you. Rooms are very nice. The age of the hotel (almost 100 years) gives it a very elegant and charming feel.
Very glad we could experience this piece of Halifax history!
Being on Spring Garden with a variety of shops, and being right next to the Public Gardens was so nice - both were good options for short, brisk winter walks! And we were able to grab a late night pizza, just around the corner.
It was a beautiful venue for our staff event with a relaxed but refined atmosphere, and extremely friendly and helpful staff.
Really happy with our room and amenities. Breakfast at the restaurant was delicious.
Accessibility note: You may need assistance if you have accessibility issues, as the elevator sometimes doesn't want to take you to parking, but it seems the hotel staff can provide assistance where needed, so please don't let it hinder your decision to come here - just know that you may need to seek staff assistance, and there always seems to be someone available. From what I've learned, they will be more than happy to help, and with a smile on their face :)
